About this property
Stunning Family Cottage With Garden On The Seafront
Swallow Cottage is luxurious 3 bedroom seafront stone/wood house with fantastic sea views from every room. The house is 15 metres from the sea with views of Galway, Connemara and the Aran Islands. It is situated on the spectacularly beautiful Flaggy Shore, a national heritage site and one of the loveliest parts of the 'Wild Atlantic Way'. The spacious open living area has underfloor heating throughout the kitchen, dining room, the two bathrooms and lounge which also has a wood burning stove.
Our beautiful home has large french window/glass doors in every room with stunning sea views that open out into the garden just metres away from the ocean. Perfect to watch seals and dolphins in the bay and spectacular sunsets of Galway Bay with your BBQ.
Step outside the garden gate and a lovely sandy beach faces you. There are several family friendly sandy beaches in the area. A short walk along the coast is the highly rated seafront Linnanes Lobster Bar/Restaurant which serves deliciously fresh locally caught seafood and a great pint of Guinness. The local fisherman's wife sells fresh fish on the harbour just outside Linnanes.
General information. Swallow Cottage is located in the spectacular area of Ireland known as the Burren (irish meaning Great Rock) which is one of the finest examples of glacio limestone landscapes in the world. Formed 350 million years ago, the region is rich with historical and archeological sites. There are more than 90 megalithic tombs, dolmens older than 5600 years and ring forts including the exceptionally well preserved Caherconnell Stone Fort. It is also renowned world-wide for its remarkable diversity of plants and animals.
The Cliffs of Moher is one of the most popular attractions of the area as are the Aillwee Caves, the most famous of the many thousands of ancient caves beneath the limestone mountains.
The Burren also has a long history of traditional Irish music which is played in many of the pubs throughout the area particularly in Doolin.
Swallow Cottage is midway (15 minutes drive) between the lovely coastal villages of Kinvarra, Co. Galway and Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. Both offer a great choice in shops, restaurants, pubs and farmers markets selling locally produced produce.
The area has several excellent golf courses including the world famous Lahinch links course.

Wow! What a house and what a location. Our family loved staying here and woukd recommend it for anybody looking in this area. The house was fantastic, the yard was perfect, and staying on the Flaggy Shore allowed a great launch point for a weeknof daybtrips all up and down the west coast of Ireland. A trip we will remember forever.
We loved Linnane’s Lobster Bar just down road; we ate there four times! Highly recommend Connolly’s Bar in Kinvarra for breakfast. Host was super responsive to our questions. Would stay again.
Beautiful location in the Burren on Flaggy Shore with all the outstanding attractions of local history and geology. From a simple walk along the shore, touring the wildly beautiful landscape of the Burren, viewing ancient ruins of abbeys and monasteries, to dining at Linnane's, this property has all you need for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in these troubling times. Great views from the house.
Lovely location
Beautiful views
Cottage is very much someones home and once you recognise that it then becomes your holiday location in a lovely part of the world
This was a return trip, and it was as amazing as the first! The home is so comfortable and has everything needed. The location is amazing. Morning and evening walks enjoying the views of the ocean, strolls to Linnanne’s for dinner. Perfect.

Perfect location and beautiful house which blends with scenery and has well kept gardens front and back. Occasional passers by will look with envy at the place wishing they were staying here.
Gorgeous property in perfect location.Well designed and laid out home with all the amenities required for a comfortable holiday. Immaculately clean and tidy with great decor (loved all the art work). Lovely well maintained garden and grounds and stunning views of the sea. A very short stroll to a great sandy beach where we loved having a daily dip in the sea!Close to a fab restaurant, ice cream parlour, art gallery, veg shop and some fantastic walks. In a great central location to explore the main sights of Clare. A total gem, many thanks
Robert’s house was perfect for our weeklong stay! This was our first time in Ireland, so wanted to see some sights but also have down time with the family. A day trip to Aran Islands (ferry from Doolin) was a highlight, bit
Our family of six had a wonderful stay at Swallow Cottage! The cottage had spectacular views from every window, it was modern with all the necessities to make our stay comfortable. I would not hesitate to rent this property again!

Beautiful Flagg Shore
Loved our quiet and off the beaten path stay near the village of New Quay. House has beautiful grounds and views but is in need of upgrades to the furnishings, bed linens and towels.

Great views. Peaceful and quiet. Conveniently located. Close to Kinvarra and other great locations to visit. Great food at Linnane’s Lobster Bar about 5-6 minutes in New Quay is fantastic. Zen Chinese / Thai Restaurant in Kinvarra was excellent

Simply fabulous!
We truly loved our stay at this cottage. It is in a breathtakingly beautiful location, beautifully decorated and well-equipped, and is perfectly situated for activities in and around the Burren. We truly enjoyed our walks along the shore and the local folks, to include Diane (who checked us in), were very cordial. Any future trips to Ireland would be sure to include Swallow Cottage.

You are very welcome. Pleased you enjoyed your stay
Loved the house, comfortable and classy without being precious in any way, some very nice original art work on the walls added to that touch of home. I imagine the location might seem bleak to some in bad weather but it was really lovely for our stay (mixed but no real bad weather) plus you had the option of the log burner if you needed it. Would recommend this house.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review of Swallow Cottage and look forward to seeing you again.
I absolutely loved this place. A completely modernized cottage built right into a stone foundation/facade with all the amenities you would need, right on the ocean. You can open the windows and listen to the sounds of the waves crashing all day. In fact, the unit is almost entirely surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows.

About the host
Hosted by Robert MacIver
My wife is an artist from the area and loved the unique location and wanted to live there since she was a child. We finally built our home in 2004. We decided to rent to holiday visitors because we felt it was a waste to have such a beautiful home empty for most of the year.
Why they chose this property
Our house is a traditional stone cottage but is architecturally designed to have all the mod cons including underfloor heating as well as a wood burning stove. It has a top quality kitchen and furnishings. It is on the seafront with a safe walled garden and very short walk to a sandy beach, an art gallery and renowned seafood restaurant/pub.
What makes this property unique
The stunning location overlooking Galway Bay. The house is near some fantastic coastal walks, beaches, prehistoric sites, castles and some of the world's finest golf courses.
