We have been coming to the lake for 10 years now and this house checks all the boxes. The kitchen is well stocked for easy prepping and cooking of meals. Plenty of room to enjoy each other’s company without being on top of one another. House is updated and nicely finished. 10/10 recommend others to stay here.
The property is well-maintained and spotless. Lake Santeetlah is beautiful and rarely crowded, thanks to 80% of its shoreline being located within the Nantahala National Forest.
Our family really enjoyed our stay. The house is set up great for a family and it was stocked well for all of our needs. The location on the lake was beautiful and the hosts were quick to respond with anything we needed.
We love this cabin - 3rd time visiting and never disappoints. We had a little trouble getting in on the first day but hosts were very responsive and resolved the issue quickly. Highly recommend
This was one of the most well stocked and thoughtful homes we have stayed in (and there are many). Everything was set up with the guest’s comfort in mind. Plenty of chairs, end tables, eating areas and three great outside areas. We were 4 couples, and we each had our own spaces including small kitchen/living areas with coffee makers in each. The home was beautiful decorated with light filled spaces, and plenty of room to put our personal items. Don’t hesitate to rent this home.
Thank you Tom and Chris for sharing your amazing house, our 4th stay there I think! Your home is well stocked, comfortable beds, spacious layout, perfect for our family vacation! We hiked, ziplined, white water rafting, boating, and floating. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We love that you come back every year! It sounds like you had a great time! Thank you. 😊
The property was tucked in a mountain area right on the lake. Our normal family group to go on vacations enjoyed the visit and all this property had to offer. Property itself was clean, had everything we needed, and the location with the views absolutely gorgeous! Everyone had a great time and lots of memories
We had a great week at Stillwater Lake House. The weather was incredible and the water was fabulous. Even the fishing was good. Every bedroom was used. There were lots of areas to congregate but we especially enjoyed the decks with the fans. Thank you Chris and Tom for the outstanding details you have put into making this a great place to stay!
The house is fantastic!! The house is so well laid out and has everything you can think of to make a perfect vacation getaway. Cannot say enough positive things about the house and the location, just perfect.
A perfect home for our extended family vacation. There was more than enough room for five couples and four young children. Access to the lake was outstanding! We swam, fished, and kayaked right from the dock. Everything was as advertised and we couldn't have been happier with our stay.
Beautiful home and setting on Lake Santeetlah. Plenty of space for all to enjoy inside and out. Well stocked kitchen and lots of indoor games and outdoor toys. Would definitely stay again!
My family has been coming to lake santeelah every year for the 4th of july for centuries. My grandfather grow up here and it has been a tradition to have a family reunion each year. We have stayed in many different rentals and this one has always exceeded our expectations. We love to stay at this home. The location on the lake is ideal, the home is beautiful, and fits multiple families comfortably. This was our 3rd year staying here and we hope to continue to rent this home for years to come. The hosts are also great about responding quickly to any questions which is so helpful. Highly recommend.
Our small group has been together for 20+ years. The house was so perfect for our group to catch up and enjoy time together. Couldn’t have loved it more! Thank you so much!
Great house on a beautiful lake. Did not love that there are video cameras on the exterior of the house-this should have been disclosed in the listing. Made me feel like we were being watched.
Chris and Tom, the property looks great. I love the way you finished the lake-level floor, and the dock is excellent.
We had nine family members of all ages, and the home accommodated everyone comfortably.
Santeetlah is a beautiful lake.
This house was perfect for our family. Plenty of room to spread out, kayaks and life vests ready to go, ample outdoor living space, games and movies for a rainy day. The driveway is literally the only thing not perfect about this house, its a bit steep. Owners are great with communication. We hope to stay again.
We absolutely loved this house! The pictures don’t do it justice. We have stayed in a LOT of vacation rentals in the past 20 years and this was by far the cleanest, most well stocked house we’ve stayed. There wasn’t anything that we needed that wasn’t there already.
The location was perfect. We loved being right on the lake. We rented a boat from Santeetlah Marina and Outfitters and are so glad we did. Randall was very helpful with our boat rental (but that’s another review😊)
We loved just sitting on the dock and enjoying the view, swimming, fishing and boating around the lake.
The house itself was in great condition. I really can’t say enough how clean this home was. The beds were comfortable and the shower’s water pressure/hot water was great. The kitchen is really well stocked with probably everything you might need.
We are already planning our next trip back!!!
Thank you, Chis and Tom!
Home has been well maintained and the view was great of the lake. Dockside was a nice place to sit , go swimming and a place to keep our pontoon boat rental.
We booked the Stillwater Mountain house for a family get together and there is not much one can say other than it is fantastic. The owners have really thought of everything, and the house was better than any of us thought it would be. Five stars! It is located on a quite part of the lake with very little boat traffic; this allowed the kids to use the house Kayaks all week and swim from the dock. There were twelve in our group and the house accommodated everyone with space left over. The kitchen is well equipped and allowed us to make most meals in house during our stay. Our group has already spoken about coming back next year! If you are looking for a little piece of heaven, you have found it.
This was our 4th stay on this warm water lake and our 3rd time in the Stillwater Mountain House. White water rafting on the Ocoee River, our second time and our guide Casey was awesome. Rented a boat and brought our water toys. The dock has been enlarged and resurfaced. There is a new dock added for parking a boat. We enjoyed the kayaks. The weather was perfect and water temperature was 84 near the shoreline. We cooked everyday 😋 in the well stocked kitchen. Thank you Chris and Tom for sharing your beautiful lakehouse!

About the host

Tom and I both grew up in Centerville, Ohio, and were married in 1987. We continue to maintain the first historic home that we purchased in 1989 in Tipp City, Ohio. We have two grown children and two dogs that we love dearly. I am a retired elementary school teacher and Tom is a builder, currently working for a heavy civil contractor. We've "rescued" and sold two older homes in our hometown, and we are excited to share our new home with you!
Why they chose this property
We started thinking about our dream retirement home several years ago, considering different lakes between Ohio and Georgia. As our search focused on the mountains along the Tennessee / North Carolina Line, we stumbled upon the relatively unknown lake called Lake Santeetlah. We knew right away that this quiet mountain lake with National Forest on 86% of the shoreline and lake levels that stay within 10 feet year round, was the perfect lake. We spent several weeks looking for our forever home, and when we walked through this house and onto the back deck for the first time, we knew that Stillwater Mountain House was the right home for us.
What makes this property unique
Come to Stillwater Mountain House, and you'll see why we chose it! Relax, surrounded by views of the lake and mountains. Rejuvenate yourself engaging in outdoor activities surrounded by nature's bounty.
