This was the perfect spot for a weekend in Chicago -- close to the lake, public transit nearby, and lots to do in the neighborhood! The studio itself was clean and comfy. Kate was a great host! I would definitely recommend staying here!
The basics: apartment was clean, bed was comfortable, kitchen and bathroom tiny but adequate, street parking always available within one block, quiet residential neighborhood close to the lakeshore beaches and Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary. Great location!!!
Very nice, comfortable and clean studio apartment in a lovely setting. I also appreciated the well stocked bathroom (plenty of towels and boxes of Kleenex). The directions for entering, door codes were clear.
Very cool little hideaway in North Chicago! Just off the beaten path, a five minute walk to the red line train, this place has everything you need for a short or long stay. Well equipped kitchenette for an impromptu dinner as well. Garden space, plantings, and outside space were very nice too?
We loved our stay in the studio. It was perfect for our family visit and Chicago adventures. The neighborhood was great and close to the lake and train. I would highly recommend and stay there again.
Quaint studio in the backyard carriage house with beautiful greenery. Took a little navigation around the side to get to so might be difficult with large suitcases. Super clean and well stocked. Loved having fridge and coffee pot.
This place was clean, comfortable and very well kept. Love the historic aspect of studios over the old carriage house. Definitely a better option that a hotel room!

We absolutely loved the Magnolia Studios. The neighborhood is quiet and leafy, the house itself is tucked into a beautiful little garden, and the studio had everything we needed, including two burners and an oven. The bed was super comfortable, the shower was great, and the owners are very responsive and friendly. It's about two blocks from the Red Line and walkable to the lake (with a beach!). I hope we will have a chance to return! Highly recommend.
My daughter and I loved our time here. From the first steps through the gate we felt comfortable and welcome! Great bed and linens, beautiful bathroom, and excellent kitchenette. Everything we needed was there and the charm and coziness of this little carriage house really had us wishing our stay was longer!. We will absolutely look forward to staying here again! 10/10 recommend!
My SO and I had a wonderful stay here! The suite was very clean and had everything we could've needed. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. The Red Line Train was a 5-7min walk which made our day to day travel super easy! The owner was very kind! We would definitely stay here again!
I stayed here while attending a conference at Loyola University. The studio was clean, cozy and very well-equipped! The neighborhood was quiet and close to many restaurants and the El. Great place! Would choose again!
Excellence abounds! Excellent studio. Excellent decor. Excellent cleanliness. Excellent location on the north side. Excellent host! Towels are decent; thick and bright white! And host is not stingy with supplying what is needed for a comfortable stay. My husband and I highly recommend this host’s carriage house studio.
We really loved out stay at Magnolia Studios. The apartments are very nice and reasonably priced, and the location is very convenient, being so close both to Andersonville and a CTA Red Line station. The host was wonderful and was very helpful despite being in recovery from illness. We were very happy all around.
Clean, well-maintained studio in upstairs of a carriage house. (2nd studio available to rent in carriage house too). Friendly host who was helpful and answered all my questions.
Nice quiet neighborhood with on street parking options.
Will definitely book this location again!
The property is beautiful, clean, and quiet. Its just a short walk to the red line, or a 20 min uber to the city. The studio is a great size for 2 people on a trip to Chicago.
Carriage house with character in fun Chicago neighborhood
Lovely, clean space behind a pretty Victorian house with all the needed amenities. Short walk to the beach and the El train. We are vegetarian and had a delicious meal at Alice’s Kitchen a block away. Hosts were responsive and I would definitely stay again if in Chicago.
This property exceeded expectations. It had that magic get away feel. Due to food allergies, we have to eat in. The studio accommodated all of our needs with cleanliness and charm.
Not the smoothest of spring breaks… We found our self in the local hospital with kidney stones, and Cate could not have been more compassionate towards our plate. We were so grateful to come home from such a trauma to a clean, safe, and wonderfully comfortable bed. We will definitely stay here again.
The perfect place for a safe, comfortable, and convenient stay in Chicago. Ideal location. Well equipped with everything you need. Very accommodating and easy to navigate. Kate and her husband are awesome. We had a minor issue with the TV and they were very quick to help and make things right. You will not be disappointed with this gem of a place!

About the host
Hosted by Kate Wainwright
Kate - Originally from the south coast of England, I moved to Chicago in 1998 with my husband Ashley. We loved the City on arrival, and partifcularly liked Andersonville/ Edgewater where we bought and renovated an old colonial house in 2002. The neighborhood is fun, convenient and friendly, and we now feel very much at home within a warm and eclectic circle of friends. After many years of global travelling for large corporates, I had baby Teddy in 2007 and decided to stop checking myself in and sit on the other side of the fence. Numerous hotel stays have made me realise that travelling is both fun and tiring, and so Magnolia Studios excels at providing essential comforts. We aim to send you home feeling relaxed and refreshed after sleeping in super comfortable beds, and after being in a vintage building that is private, relaxing and completely renovated. We're on hand to help with any aspect of your stay, or if you know your way around, we just let you enjoy.
Why they chose this property
We loved the house at first sight, but what really made it for us was the original Chicago Coach House that was part of it. Our architect, somewhat of a Chicago historian told us how few of these are left in Chicago. These are now the studio apartments.
What makes this property unique
All the benefits that a major city offers, without the high costs and stress that usually accompany a city stay. Accommodation is tucked away in a 'gingerbread house' in a leafy garden. Once out and about, there is easy access to the main city center, to neighborhood restaurants and to local shops.
