Beach time
The location of the property is great. There is wonderful beach access and the large windows allow easy viewing of the sound. The Kitchen is well supplied with pots and pans.

Breathtaking!!
This was perhaps one of my favorite vacation stays EVER. It was a dreamlike setting… we would stand on the beach every morning, watching the sunrise in disbelief. My son kayaked out and set crab traps, and caught several huge ones! I cannot say enough good things, and my words fail to capture the essence of this property. We will be back, guaranteed.

Great hideaway!!!
We spent Labor day weekend at this lovely updated vintage cottage. The cottage is very well appointed for every imaginable vacation activity. It has a great use of space; loved the quiet little reading nooks!! My daughter caught her very first fish here (it was released, too small). We were there during a king tide and saw so many fish jumping out of the water. We filled out the boating waivers and my husband took the kids out one at a time in the row boat and they had a blast!!! So much fun!!! Thank you for sharing your home with us!!!

Well located beachfront house
We loved the location so close to the beach. It was quiet and peaceful, but there was also lots to watch out on the water. We particularly enjoyed watching the lights on the mainland and trains in the distance. The house is well outfitted. We enjoyed our stay and would be happy to stay here again.

Fishing and crabbing
Communication with owners were great. Location is secluded. We had so much fun fishing and crabbing. We fished two out of the four days we were there. We caught over a dozen fishes including salmons and released them. We used a 2.5 inch pink buzz bomb lure, switched hook to single barbless hook per regulations. We also caught about 2 dozen red rock crabs and 8 were legal size. We used a foldable crap trap and a crab snare and baited it with fresh cracked clams, herring one day and chicken leg on another day and manually casted it out. Let it soak for 15 minutes. We didn’t experience a bug infestation, saw a mosquito and a fly but it probably entered the house when we arrived the first night. Also it’s best if you arrive before dark as there are no street lights. Overall, it’s a 5 star in our books and would definitely consider going back.

About the host

Host profile image
Joy and Michael have enjoyed bringing our three children and close friends to Anchors Away for the last 25+ years. We love the Pacific Northwest and all the beauty and adventure it has to offer. Michael is a native of the area and loves to fish, scuba dive, kayak and cook. Joy, is from Iowa originally, and loves being with friends and family, coaching volleyball, or just enjoying a cafe' mocha in the morning with a friend. When she's relaxing with a good book in a beach chair or by the fire, she's in her happy place.

Why they chose this property

If you love Nat Geo or Discovery channel, you will love this place. Every day, we see something that reminds us how blessed we are to be here. Whales, Porpoise, Seals and Sea Lions are common. Navy ships and Freighters cruise by while commercial and recreational fishermen and crabbers work their gear. Tug boats and sailboats navigate stormy seas. The gorgeous sunrise over glassy-calm Possession Sound makes it hard to want to sleep in. Any season, every hour paints a different picture. It's our little slice of heaven.

What makes this property unique

So many things to do. Grilling a fresh-caught salmon and boiling crab that you caught from the rowboat. Kayaking with the porpoise and seals, walking the beach, discovering shells, and treasures from the last high tide, digging clams at low tide.
Or - get away and explore the many island attractions. Restaurants, shops, family activities, hikes, wineries, beaches, and more are just minutes away in Langley, Bayview and Clinton, or drive the entire island and see beautiful Deception pass, Fort Casey, Oak Harbor.
Anchors Away feels remote because we have only one neighbor and a private beach, but you're quite close to all the conveniences of town.
Bring your fishing pole and crab buoy and you can use the row boat to drop our crab pots and let the kids catch sole/flounder, sea perch, and salmon and crab (in season). Catch and release fisheries are also good for sea -run cutthroat and steelhead. Check WDFW website for Area 8-2 for information on fishing/crabbing/shrimping/clamming
