Jarian and Kaylee, we enjoyed meeting you both. I hope your Vermont experience was all that you hoped for. You certainly had spectacular weather. All the best, Madeline
If you are looking for rustic charm, this is the place! Extra amenities offered by the host like the row boat and kayaks made this visit perfect. We enjoyed the back porch nestled in the trees for coffee and there was plenty of strolls around the lake you could take!

Amy, we are delighted that you had such great weather and that you could enjoy the serenity of the lake - great dock relaxing! We hope to see you and Joe again. Yours, Madeline
The property is absolutely dreamy and peaceful. The hosts were very kind and warm. We had a lovely dinner on the patio that we cooked on the grill, a fully functional kitchen, and all day access to a variety of kayaks and a big beautiful lake that was home to hawks loons and plenty of fish, and coffee on the dock every morning. One of the best stays I’ve ever had.

Logan, we loved having you and Alex. We were delighted that you could experience the lake and its loons during the lovely weather that you had. Please do come again.
My fiancé and I absolutely loved staying at Madeline's cabin. It was a perfect getaway and there is so much to do. Madeline is an amazing hosts and is super helpful with anything you need. We definitely plan to stay again!
Quaint lakeside cabin tucked off of a private neighborhood road conveniently within a 30 minute radius of great hiking, towns, parks, etc. The grounds and views were beautiful, we loved getting to sit on the dock for sunset and kayak the lake. The hosts live on the property, and were always eager to chat and sent regular text messages. The studio is a book lovers haven, and the smell of old books greets you with all the nostalgia one could want- just dust them off and it’s a treasure trove. As a CS Lewis fan, I especially enjoyed finding some of his lesser known work. Our host let us a know a field mouse likes to occasionally visit the studio kitchenette, and while we didn’t get a chance to say hi, we did hear him rustle around a time or two! If you’re looking for affordable, conveniently located lodging with an epic view, this is your spot.

We're glad that you enjoyed finding some lesser known C.S. Lewis-related books. Enjoy the rest of your travels!
Awesome place! Perfect little get away. Loved being able to fish right from the property, along with the kayaks and the little boat we could use! Would definitely stay again. Thank you!

Thanks Nay and Joe, you were great guests and we loved that you took full advantage of the great weather and the dock/boats!!
Madeline greeted us and showed us around the grounds. The cabin views were stunning. They knew the surrounding area well and gave the best recommendations for food. Madeline and Bill went above and beyond. I cannot recommend them enough.
Looking for more than a hotel? Everything you need and more all in one spot. Enjoyed having access to the owners without worry. Madeline and Bill are great!
We had a great time! The property is in a perfect location. Just a short drive to many nearby towns. Host were very friendly. We took the row boar out to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Would definitely book again!

Tracey and Chuck, we could not have have more fantastic guests. Chuck's offer to help install a light, help my sister with her water heater, and attach the wood "knobs" were much appreciated. We feel like we have made new friends and look forward to having you stay with us again.
Definitely a basic cabin atmosphere. Bed was quite comfortable. Having a chance to kayak, walk on paths and sit on the dock by the lake was the highlight of the visit. Hosts were very accommodating and easy to reach if needed.
Recommended for anyone who likes outdoor experiences without luxurious accommodations.

Lynda and Ross, we are so glad that you had some wonderful weather so that you could kayak and paddleboard all over the lake and enjoy the peaceful lake scene from the dock. Safe travels to you.
The best getaway spot ever! Madeline and her husband are so kind and welcoming and the cottage is the coziest place ever imagined. Close to downtown Burlington, but also so many activities at the cottage! We went paddle boarding and kayaking and the lake is so relaxing. 10/10 on the whole experience and will be back. Thanks again Madeline for hosting us, we enjoyed it so much. Also, let us know what type of coffee that was, it was the best coffee in the world!

Lauren, we LOVED hosting you and Val. We love it when guests take advantage of the lake and also venture out to Burlington and all the fun things in the area. The coffee was Starbucks Medium Roast. If you have access to Costco, it has a very good price on the coffee but you can also get Starbucks at many other stores. Do come back again! All the best as Val starts his internship. Yours, Madeline
Madeline was very helpful and friendly, went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and welcome. The place was perfect, the closeness to nature and local attractions made for a wonderful trip. We loved the lake, and the Kayak, Dock, and Stand-Up Paddle Board were an unexpected bonus. We loved apple-picking at Shelburne Orchard, Church Market in Burlington, Stowe, Woodstock, Portsmouth, Ogunquit Beach, and Kennebunkport. The location was perfect for all of these adventures, and the cabin was exactly as described. Would definitely recommend!!!

Mark and Gail, you two were amazing as you took in more sightseeing and did more things than anyone we know in five days days! What adventurers you are. Please come back anytime.
We had a fabulous stay at the writers cabin! Madeline and Bill are such welcoming, kind, and attentive hosts and their property is absolutely gorgeous. My wife and I loved that we could enjoy the quiet peace of nature while still having a convenient home base to explore all of the nearby areas. The history of the cabin is so interesting and we spent more than one evening exploring all of the old books that line the walls. We travel a lot and I have to say that this cabin is definitely among the top of our favorite stays. Amazing through and through!

Kevin, we loved having you both and so appreciate it when our guests enjoy our little literary cabin and the surrounding area as well as the nature surrounding it. Come again!
This is a fantastic little cottage with a lot of funky charm with an affordable rental rate. There is an abundance of large windows that open the space right up and let in all the wonderful sounds and smells of nature. All the basic necessities were provided, plus some (grill, firepit, boats, etc), and we didn't want for anything. The lake is just a few steps away and the hosts provided several boating options for noodling around beautiful Lake Iroquois. There's also a dock with lounge chairs that are perfect for sitting and enjoying a cocktail right on the water. We're definitely saving this listing for a repeat visit.

Rose and Chris, we loved having you and knowing that you enjoyed the lake scene and sounds so much. We hope you come again. Hope your trip back to Portland went smoothly.
After a mile long drive on the private narrow and hilly dirt road we arrived at the lakeside cabin and were met by our hostess, Madeline. She was very welcoming and after introductions offered us a tour of the site. She and her husband, Bill, occupy the larger of two cabins on a lake surrounded by a dense forest of mostly very tall pines. She led us down to the lake where she pointed out a rowboat, paddleboards and a canoe, as well as a dock with chairs, all of which we were welcome to use. Lifevests, required by the state of Vermont, were available when using the watercraft. Cyndi, my wife has a hard time walking on uneven ground and was offered walking sticks for our stay. The cabin was once a one-room writer's studio, built for Madeline's father in 1949 and later expanded by the addition of a kitchen and shower. All that was needed for eating (less food), sleeping and relaxing was provided, as well as an extensive library, TV, CD player and radio. A deck with table and chairs wraps around 3 sides to provide a view of the lake through the trees. This place provided the seclusion and quiet that we wanted for our vacation, but with easy access to Burlington, Shelburne and the smaller attractions to be found locally. We live in the high peaks of the Catskill Mountains of New York but truly enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy a different rural environment, as well as to meet our gracious hosts.

Paul and Cyndi, it was wonderful meeting both of you and getting to know you. We are glad that you enjoyed the environs of the cabin and could explore the surrounding area - and that you had great weather in which to enjoy your stay. Do come again!
If you are looking for a House Beautiful stay with immaculate wall to wall carpeting and sterile, air-conditioned splendor, please look elsewhere. However, if you value generations-deep family tradition, a lakefront left native for the health of the lake as well as the comfort of residents, a small, wood-paneled and beamed cottage with lots of easily opened windows and screen doors and wall to wall books, this is your getaway. Sit on the ample deck and enjoy the scent of the hemlocks and pines or get out on the lake with the handily provided kayaks and canoe (paddles & safety jackets provided). Walk along the quiet road & trail to the nearby beach, or cookout on the grill (charcoal & lighter provided). Start a fire in the lakefront firepit and share the afternoons with the loons or the evenings with the owls. Indoors is compact – fully equipped kitchen with gas range & oven, ½ fridge, free standing freezer, counter space, a dated spice rack, more books – and, surprise, the cottage’s shower! As our really excellent hostess explained, the cottage was originally a one room writer’s escape. When it was expanded, some architectural flexibility ensued. The great room contains a comfortable queen bed, a built-in narrow 6 foot + sofa below wall to ceiling bookshelves, a wood stove, electric heater, tables, one with a TV screen & limited channels, if you must. There are plenty of electric sockets throughout, great internet, and one small bathroom. Negatives? Bathroom, shower, kitchen were all very clean and well-supplied. As with any older home, there is the occasional spiderweb and a warning about mice. Bins are provided to protect breads, etc., but we never saw any critters. The road into the cottage is an adventure – not recommended to arrive the first time after dark. Otherwise, we consider this place a real find. We loved it and hope to return!
