Enjoyed how close the house is to the beach, and yet still has trees/shade and is very quiet. The big middle area is great for hanging out, and the house is well stocked with supplies and beach stuff. The kids loved the bunk room!
We love Middlesex Beach! Wonderful location near nature, town of Bethany, many fun things to do and see. The well appointed house is tucked into the woods and so cozy and accommodating. The large screen porch is amazing for gathering together outdoors yet being protected from sun and rain. Will definitely stay again!
what a lovely house! Very chill and unassuming. The place was clean and well-appointed. You can't beat the location being so close to the beach. I really appreciate the added bonus of several bikes for our use. Would definitely try to stay at this house again if it works out.
Our oasis in the woods. The screened-in porch in the middle of the house is amazing. There are so many places for people to sit or have a meal! The beds are incredibly comfortable and the showers are really good too. Danielle was very responsive to any questions we had. Middlesex is a very special area that I highly recommend. Check out this house for your stay!
I can't say enough great things about Danielle and her home. Pictures don't do it justice. There's something so magical about the screened in living room, the cozy living space, the friendly neighborhood, and being walking distance to such a peaceful beach. Danielle was so welcoming and just a text away with any of our questions. We had the best week!
We’ve rented this property a number of times over the last several years and absolutely love it. The huge screen porch, the big wooded lot, the provided bikes, the proximity to the boardwalk and (private!) beach are just some of the main reasons we keep coming back. It’s comfortable and just plain cool, with a 1960s architectural style that you just can’t replicate in the newer builds.

Out-of-Date Glamping
We expected a different house from the amazing reviews. It is two cabins separated by a adjoining space. One cabin is dark/tight w/2 bedrooms & bathroom w/standing shower. Other cabin is more updated & mostly wood. Kitchen is fine; cabinets old but repainted. Granite countertop and updated appliances. All ceilings/walls are wood. The bedroom/bathroom doors are old & torn up. The bottom of the doors look like an animal, with long claws, hung upside-down from the top & scratched up the door. Seriously. See pics. The center space between the cabins is huge & covered by a filthy skylight. The space became too steamy as the day wore on. Strong storms caused the roof to leak. Rafters need a good cleaning/de-webbing.Beds were comfortable. Great selection of games/books! They left 4 brand new beach chairs. Bikes were not in great shape & at least 2 were broken in some way. Relieved I brought mine & son's.The location is great! Middlesex Beach is a private community, south of Sea Colony. Easy bike ride to the beach & Sea Colony marketplace area. It's in the woods with pines. When you're walking to the beach from the Bayberry Street entrance, you see a ton of umbrellas to the left where Sea Colony starts & then very few right in front of you, where Middlesex Beach is. See pics.I hope this is helpful for both renters & the owner. In summary, the place is run down, old, & in need of an upgrade. Minus the location & quiet beach, it was a disappointment.

Andrea, I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay at our beach house. I was surprised by your comments. As I explained in the check-in email, we live in the house next door should need anything, but you never contacted me about the rafters needing cleaning or the roof leaking during the bad storms that week. I would have immediately addressed those issues. Additionally, the pictures on VRBO accurately depict this 1960s beach cottage. All the pictures show the cedar wood paneling and there is even a drawing with the house layout showing the two sides with a large screened in porch in the center. The screened porch skylight is cleaned at the beginning of each season, but because the house is on a 1/2 acre wooden lot, the debris from the leaves is continuous. Also, because it is a screened in porch and not climate controlled, it will get steamy in the summer. We spent a great deal of time of money updating it when we purchased the house in 2019. We have rented for 5 years, mainly repeat rentals who love this beach house. I am sorry you were disappointed, while others were not. Perhaps newer houses in adjacent Sea Colony would be a better fit for you, or rent one of the newer houses in our community (which rent for much more $$$). We tried to keep pricing affordable for families, while still allowing them to enjoy the private community beach.
Always a great place to stay. The big porch is heaven. Nice quiet street where kids and roam free. Close enough to the beach you can hear the waves on a quiet night.
We had a wonderful week at the property. It was easy to communicate with Danielle. The property is nicely done, an authentic "beach cottage" with great style and comfort. We had everything we needed and really enjoyed the porch. The location is great and easy access to the beach, shops, market, restaurants. We look forward to going back in2023. Thank you Danielle!
We loved the center screened in porch. It was the perfect area to relax after a day at the beach and eat and drink together. The beds were so comfortable and the linens were great. The extra frig in the screened in porch was handy for beer and drinks. Wifi worked well. Kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans, dishes etc... The stove is apartment sized but was certainly enough for us. The owner supplied plenty of beach chairs as well as board games for the evening.
The owner supplied 2 parking passes for Middlesex beach. It was appreciated since we were not always on the same schedule.
The home was clean except the ceiling corners could use a good dusting. We enjoyed having an outdoor shower but it is time to replace the wood.
Our family truly enjoyed this vacation rental. The location is an easy walk/drive/bike ride to the private beach and the home is comfortable, well stocked and family friendly. We spent evenings on the enclosed porch; the outdoor shower was a bonus along with the bikes and linens/towels supplied were very helpful. A quaint beach cottage for a wonder family vacation.
We loved it. The open area the two wings the location. Great beach house. Minor electrical problems and weak WiFi but we made do. Definitely would rent again. Oh the house bikes were great too. Owners very helpful and nice people
We had guests who were unable to come, but the two of us certainly enjoyed the house and short walk to the beach, markets, and restaurants. We especially enjoyed the patio and porch areas. It would be ideal for a larger group.
This very well appointed home was everything we could have hoped for to celebrate my sons college graduation. Very clean and well stocked. Loved the screened porch and outdoor shower. We also really enjoyed all the small touches like the art sculptures in the garden.
Best rental.
We had a great time, the house was just as described. Great location, in a nice neighborhood, only an easy walk to the beach, and surrounded by trees. Loved the giant screened in porch!
The owner was helpful and very responsive to our questions.
I know another reviewer was upset about this property because they felt like it was expensive camping. They just don't get the charm and coolness of these 60's properties. They are disappearing as development wipes them out. This house is so special. We played on the large porch the entire time, even cornhole inside. It is not a house that is covered in marble but it has romance, adventure and spirit. Thank you for sharing your amazing property with us.
1. The TV and living room area are comfort for watching movies with friends and family.
2. The screened-in large porch is great for "staging" for the beach and relaxing in the morning and evening, but divides the house into two sides-- a guest bedroom, bathroom and kids room on one side and the living room, kitchen and main bedroom on the other.
3. The home owner was very responsive and allowed us to stay a little over the check out time.

Feel like camping at non camping prices
If you want to feel like you are camping, at Ritz-Carlton prices, this is your place. After staying in this house for three nights, we would not recommend this home to others, in this condition at the listed price. We did not feel that the home was well maintained or well cleaned. There were cobwebs that had clearly been around for weeks or months, kitchen cabinets filled with dead bugs, and ants crawling everywhere including beds. The furniture in the screened in porch could have been wiped down a few times over which would have been much appreciated. The posting indicated the refrigerator was standard and on the small side but there was no notification that the oven was the size for a studio apt and couldn’t fit standard baking trays. The roof is leaking into the bathroom, the top bunk beds are so close to the ceiling we wouldn't let our kids sleep in them, and they are extremely close to the air conditioning unit. The remote controls, light bulbs, screens are not well maintained making it difficult to keep the home lit, cool, relatively bug free, and dry. Stating that the home was totally newly renovated is a bit of a stretch, the counter tops in the kitchen are new as are the floors in the home but that’s about it. It wasn't clear to us that two of the bedrooms and one bath are in a separate structure from the master/kitchen/living room, separated by a screened in porch. We would not have felt comfortable having young children in the bunk bed room without another adult in that structure. On top of this, the house has a strong smell of must and the screens are all broken in the porch area. This very rustic home is not a rental property that I would recommend

Thank you for your feedback and I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay. I guess you just can't make some people happy.
You needed an early check-in by 8 am to accommodate children who were online learning. We made this happen with no additional charge.
1. When you texted about some issues you were having, I called you back within a few minutes. You complained about the AC unit in the master bedroom not working. I explained that the entire HVAC was completely replaced this year and has climate control in each room and there shouldn't be an issue. The problem was immediately solved when we discovered the remote for that room had dead batteries and I explained how to use the remote for the living room to control the master bedroom unit.
2. You complained about the house not being cleaned as there were spider webs and ants, I explained that we have a professional cleaning service clean the house after each rental and I would be happy to call them back to re-clean the house, but you declined.
3. I am sorry you were not happy about the layout, size of the stove, and height of the the bunkbeds, are all clearly depicted in the pictures on the VRBO listing.
4. You never mentioned the roof leaking in the master bath, but we are sending someone to check that immediately.
5. The only light bulb you complained was out was located in the driveway. There are extra light bulbs and batteries in the pantry.
6. The small screens in the doors from the house into the screened-in porch must have been broken by a prior tenant. We are having those repaired.
7. I am very offended that you stated the house is not renovated. In spring 2019, we purchased all new furniture, new granite countertops, new flooring in the bathrooms, new flooring in the kitchen, new dishwasher, new garbage disposal, new flooring in the screened in porch, and had the house painted and original hardwood flooring refinished.
8. I am also offended that you described the house as camping at Ritz Carlton prices. We worked hard to make sure the house was a very nice place to spend a vacation. I have stayed in a 2 bedroom Ritz Carlton suite and it was $2500 per night, not the $300 per night you paid for a 3 bedroom house on a 1/2 acre with a private beach. No prior tenants have complained about any of these issues. We have rented the house all summer and received all great comments, except yours. Obviously, the charm of a 1960s renovated beach cottage is not for you.
