The rustic look and feel of the house was wonderful. It was exactly as the pictures showed. Also the games room in the basement is very nice to have. In particular we enjoyed the pool table. The location and property are very quiet which we appreciated. The town was small but we still had a chance to explore, and also enjoyed a hiking next to a waterfall about a 15 minute drive from the propery. Overall we had a good experience.
Housing an eclectic mix of historic character and modern amenties, the Stonewood retreat is a great place to stay within short distance of Kingston and Gananoque. The huge bathtub is great for a relaxing soak. The large kitchen is big enough for prepping meals with a group. The solid wood accents throughout the house give homage to its past. The back pond and fire pit give a unique location to roast some marshmallows and enjoy the songs of the birds chirping as the sun sets. The host was very responsive and provided excellent suggestions on things to see in the area. If you want a unique experience at a location that’s filled with little treasures to discover throughout your stay, then this is your spot.

Fascinating/unique property
Our family of 7 (five children 11 and under) stayed with 2 accompanying adult family members enjoyed our stay. The house was very unique and interesting, we loved the unique architecture and finishing. The kids loved the house and it had the feel of adventure for them. There is a nice spot in back for a nighttime fire by the water out back but on the downside there was some debris around the outlying areas so it would not be safe to let children wander outside too far. We loved our stay, we were looking for something cozy and spacious and unique which was what we got. If someone had the expectations of everything being polished and perfect they might be dissatisfied. The stairs were a really cool and unique design in this four level property, but two flights of stairs were tricky with the inside of the spiral steps being very narrow. The listing did not have any pictures of the house from the road so it was initially surprising when we arrived, we would hope that down the road with some aesthetic improvements this place could be a really attractive destination. The host was gave very good instructions on checking in, receptive during our stay and responded positively to some concerns we brought forward that had not be known.

Thank you so much for your detailed review. We're truly glad to hear that your family enjoyed the stay and that the children found the space adventurous and exciting! The unique layout and rustic character of the home are definitely part of what makes it special, and it’s wonderful to know it helped create lasting memories for your group.
We appreciate your note about the spiral-style stairs - great point! We encourage guests to walk along the outer edge of the steps, where the treads are wider and easier to navigate. We’ve also taken steps to tidy up the surrounding areas so guests can enjoy even more of the backyard space.
Regarding exterior photos: because our property has a distinctive design that’s quite recognizable in the area, sharing wide exterior views from the road can potentially affect our privacy and security. That’s why we focus on showcasing the interior and backyard, which we believe truly reflect the experience of staying here.
It was a pleasure having you and your family, and we sincerely appreciate your feedback. We’d love to welcome you and your family back anytime!
