Situated on 100 feet of private waterfront, this one-of-a-kind authentic stone cottage will melt your heart. This sweet cottage is bursting with vintage charm, yet very clean, updated and comfortably furnished.

Nearby, explore the quaint rural villages of Westport and Newboro where you’ll find unique shops, art galleries, restaurants & pubs, and even a winery with terrific outdoor dining.

ABOUT THE COTTAGE:
The combination of indoor and outdoor spaces provides plenty of room for togetherness while still allowing everyone in your group a place to retreat for some quiet time:

GREAT ROOM: Open floor plan Kitchen, Dining area and Living room with gorgeous stone hearth and propane fireplace.

BEDS & BATH: 3 private bedrooms comfortably sleeps6 (Queen, Queen, 2 Twin). 4-piece washroom has been recently updated.

PATIO: Enjoy panoramic lake views and al fresco dining on a huge flagstone patio with built-in campfire pit

SCREEN PORCH: The 10’ x 20’ screened-in porch is comfortably furnished as outdoor living space. Curl up with a book, play board games, do puzzles or craft projects, or just sip your favorite beverage and listen to the loons.

WATERFRONT: Fixed deck with sitting area plus a large deep-water floating dock offers great swimming, fishing and room for boats. *Note that the cottage sits off the water (accessible by a set of steps). This offers fantastic panoramic views but may not be ideal for those with limited mobility.

YARD: Huge yard with mature trees has plenty of space for yard games (croquet set provided, or bring your volleyball or badminton net). Parking area for up to 3 vehicles.

WHAT ELSE YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS COTTAGE:
• Only 3.5 hours from Toronto, 1.5 hours from Ottawa, 30 minutes north of Kingston and 10 minutes from the idyllic village of Westport
• Very-well equipped: Gas stove/oven, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, blender and other small appliances, dishes, cutlery, pots & pans, Propane BBQ. TV/DVD player, High-speed WIFI reaches all areas including patio & waterfront.
• There’s lots to do nearby. Local villages to explore, shopping, dining, golf, driving range, horseback riding, and Provincial parks for hiking. For insurance reasons we do not provide watercraft, however there are places nearby that rent everything from canoes & kayaks to fishing boats, bow riders, pontoons & jet skis.
• We live by The Golden Rule: “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” The owners have been spending time at this cottage for 3 generations, so if anything needs attention during your stay or you'd like recommendations on local businesses and services, we're happy to help!
• We are pet friendly (certain limitations and breed restrictions apply, pet fee is $100 per pet).
• Non-smoking environment (smoking in non-covered areas only, please)

*NOTE: As with most cottages in this area, personal bed linens and towels are not provided. All beds have pillows, mattress protectors and bedspreads which are laundered regularly, and there are extra blankets in the closets. Guests will need to bring their own sheets, bathroom towels and kitchen towels from home.

You'll have the entire cottage and surrounding property to yourself. The neighbors on either side are rarely at their cottages, and the properties are separated by large yards.

I am easily accessible by phone, text or email if you need anything, but otherwise will leave you to yourself.

During peak season (mid-June through Labour Day) only full week rentals are accepted, and rental week is Saturday to Saturday. Weekends and shorter stays are accepted in May, early June, September and October. Cottage is closed (unavailable) November through April.

As with most cottages in this area, personal bed linens and towels are not provided. All beds have pillows, mattress protectors and bedspreads and there are extra blankets in the closets. Guests will need to bring their own sheets, bathroom towels and kitchen towels.
This is not just a rental property, it is our family's own summer retreat. It is clean, well-maintained, and comfortably furnished. We ask that you please treat it with the same respect as you would staying in the home of a friend, and leave it in a good condition for others to enjoy.

Pets are allowed for an additional fee of $100.00 (subject to breed and weight restrictions)
*Note that there is a raised patio that some may find unsuitable for toddlers and young children. There are also steps to the dock that may not be ideal for the elderly or those with mobility issues. If you have any questions about these, please send me a note and I will happily provide more details.

This is an exceptional cottage with lovely views of the lake. It's just a few minutes drive to Westport which has interesting shops and a good grocery store. The owner was so cooperative and easy to deal with that I have booked a time in June and can't wait to get back to this wonderful cottage. The only caution is that there are stairs to get to the lake which should be considered for someone with mobility issues.

The stone cottage had a nice view of the lake, a fire pit, big tables for games and meals with family. Very relaxing and quiet. The loons on the lake were close by--loved their calls to each other! It was clean and had a well stocked kitchen. If you have little children, the outdoor patio has a drop off that you would need to use caution with. We would definitly recommend this place.

A great stay!

We had an amazing one week stay at Erika's property. The communications upfront was excellent and the information package answered any possible questions we had before arrival. We found the cottage to be very clean and tidy and well stocked with everything we needed for our stay - large bottled water, basic spices and more. The kitchen was extremely well equipped with plenty of dish and cookware and we loved hanging out in the screened in porch during the evenings and down at the dock during the day. We hope to be back the summer of 2026!

Big Rideau Lake Cottage

We had a lovely relaxing week. Took advantage of nearby Rideau Lakes Golf Course, Scheuermann Winery and the Tangled Garden Restaurant in Westport. The cottage was very comfortable, swimming was great and the location very easy to get to. Everything we were looking for!

Fantastic fall getaway location

The cottage was nice a cozy, convenient to get to, around a beautiful area of Ontario and on a fantastic lake. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The property owner was very friendly and communicated everything that we needed to know for our arrival, stay and departure. The surroundings had beautiful fall colours everywhere, and the floating dock was a wonderful location to fish and to read a book. Very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Awesome traditional cottage in Great Lake location!

Cottage was amazing - very well maintained, "traditional" feel to it (original fittings, kitchen etc.). Front screened porch was our favourite place to relax, with an excellent view of the lake. New dock was a great place for morning coffee, and bbq on the side deck with a lake view was also a nice touch. Views from nearly all windows, including master bedroom. Host Erika was very helpful and accommodating. Would recommend to anyone for a cozy lake-side stay.

Relaxing week by the lake

We had a week at Erika's cottage this fall and it was absolutely lovely. The cottage is beautiful, comfortable, spacious, the location is stunning, and the screened in porch was an absolute added bonus. We were also really delighted we could bring our cat with us, and that the screened in porch was there so she could safely enjoy the location too :-) All of the instructions, access, setup, and process for the cottage was clear and easy. Erika makes the experience seamless for guests to enjoy their time away.

Rideau lakes cottage

We arrived after a long drive, access was easy and the cottage had everything we needed. I very much appreciated being able to take my 2 dogs. 1 of our party saw a black bear on her way out early 1 morning. Stores and restaurants were very convenient and all in all we had a great week. Relax and listen to the loons!

The opportunity to quarantine in Erika's cottage for two weeks was a gift from on high. The setting into which this charming stone cottage is nestled is both beautiful and peaceful. Waking to the sunrise over the deep blue lake and falling asleep to the call of loons made for a truly relaxing stay, with plenty of fishing, nightly bonfires, and reading on the screened-in porch in between. Canadian Cottage Stay & Fishing Trip on Upper Rideau

Our family had a great week at Erika's property, experiencing a clean and welcoming cottage with beautiful views, plus friendly local neighbors! Visiting as a family of 6, with 2 little ones and a 4-legged friend, we had ample space in this sweet little cottage, with the fantastic screened in porch area being our favorite hangout spot. Not to mention, the thrilling fishing just steps away on both the dock of the property, and the boat we rented for the week from Norris Bait and Tackle. The kids had a blast! The shoreline of the lake offers many beautiful properties to not miss sightseeing. In addition to those things, and the tasty food in Westport (don't miss the Cove Inn!), Erika was the most optimal host! Prior to our visit, Erika was in contact with us, inquiring what would make our stay the most comfortable for us, and even after we were home, she was very responsive and accommodating of some things we had accidentally left behind. Overall a fantastic and memorable experience for our first visit to Canada!

My husband and I spent the last few days of May, beginning of June at this lovely cottage. Beware if you have mobility issues as there are close to 40 steps down to the lakeside dock. Erika has all the cupboards labeled, so no trouble locating kitchen supplies. When we had rain days, there were tons of boards games to keep us busy. Even watched Nadal beat Djokovic at the French Open on cable TV! Erika is a lovely host who will bend over backwards to help her guests. Only drawback for me was housekeeping. It is lackadaisical, but I'm a clean freak., so not up to my usual standards.

Overall great week with lots of wildlife sightings (deer, loons, chipmunks and a mink), great fire pit on the patio and close to charming small towns to explore. Foley Lake Conservation area nearby has excellent hiking trails including a short and easy walk to an amazing view over Westport. Lake was slightly weedy, so swimming wasn't superb, but still good. Very well equipped kitchen with everything you could need, and a nice big frig. Lots of chairs and loungers for relaxing on the patio or the dock. Great selection of games and books. All you need for a fun and relaxing week.

Heaven on Earth

Relaxing, cozy stay

Our family really enjoyed our stay here. Cottage is well appointed, and the outdoor set up is great. We brought our paddle boards so made full use of the dock and access to water. There is also a wonderful fire ring outside- we made lots of s’mores. Nice and quiet and beds were comfortable so all slept well. Family friendly hiking nearby at Foley Mountain.

Enjoyment of Nature

The location is peaceful. The views are spectacular. To truly appreciate the location, get out on the lake. Enjoy the deck, the dock, kayaking to see the loons, and swim. All meals on the patio, the sunrise morning coffee time and walks down the lane. The Foley Mt. hike and dinner at the Cove Inn were great!

Terrific Cottage on the Water

Thanks for the stay! Great firepit, fans in all the rooms, comfy couch and large table to entertain extended family for meals. Family with kids may want to rent kayaks, or pick up floaties to enjoy the water. Careful of the barnacles/mussels clustered in the shallow waters!

Great place to unwind

Had fun disconnecting from the day-to-day day even for just a little while. Perfect spot by the water. Nice property. We all loved the screened-in porch and the great fire pit. My teenaged daughters loved the dock for sunbathing, swimming and fishing. Loads of fish in the lake. Everything was exactly as advertised.

Erika's grandparents started bringing their family to the Upper Rideau in the early 1960's to enjoy the fantastic fishing. After several years of staying at nearby rental cottages, they bought the land this cottage sits on in 1965. For the first several years, the family camped on the land as they slowly built the cottage themselves, summer-by-summer. Erika's first 2 summers here were spent in a tent.
Every year since 1965 (with the exception of 2020, when Covid restrictions made it impossible), one or more generations of our family has spent time at this property. It gives us great pleasure to know that other families are creating their own memories here.
