Sun on the Brow Cottages - Grandview Cottage - Year round cottage
Welcome to “Sun on the Brow” Situated on the border of two of Ontario’s great cottage regions, Rideau Lakes and South Frontenac. Opinicon Lake is part of a series of lakes navigated by water travellers of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rideau River/Canal system since the mid-1800s. Davis Lock to the south draining into Sand lake and beyond towards Kingston, and northerly through Chaffey’s lock into Clear lake and on towards Ottawa. ‘Sun on the Brow’ is a beautiful setting with four cottages on a property total of 11.25 acres with over 750 feet of lakefront.
This 4 season cottage “Grandview” is the largest of the four and lives up to its name! Facing south, a large deck runs the entire length of the cottage and around the back with picture-perfect views of the lake from every vantage point. The cottage is surrounded on three sides by water. There’s a Dock & Fire Pit, complete with seating Inside this freshly renovated 3 bedroom space is everything one could want in a cottage retreat. Two new bathrooms both with showers, a new kitchen with full-size appliances for the discerning chef, a coffee maker (*coffee included) and a dishwasher. The Primary bedroom has a King size bed. The two remaining bedrooms have queen size beds for a sleeping total of six. All fresh linens are provided (because who wants to start a vacation by making beds?) Bath towels are provided too! A/C and a gas fireplace as seasonally required.
Sun on the Brow also has a Boat House Retreat. This 900-square-foot common room has a pool table, table soccer, air hockey, games and books with a panoramic view over Lake Opinicon for those who want to curl up and take in natural pleasures. Great for rainy day activity or anytime.
Opinicon is a peaceful lake but amenities are all close by. Less than five minutes away is ‘Chaffey’s Lock’. Here you will find two marinas, Brown’s and Franklin’s. Brown’s has a small general store and an LCBO/Beer store outlet. The Historic Opinicon Inn is the main attraction in Chaffey’s Lock. Three restaurants with indoor and outdoor dining, an ice cream shop and 10 acres of beautiful grounds are features of this recently refurbished and renovated charming Inn. For Hikers and nature lovers, the Cataraqui Trail passes through Chaffey’s Lock on the north side of Opinicon Lake. For the more experienced hikers, we have Foley Mountain in Westport. Numerous golf courses are within 20 minutes to get your swing on! Shopping and strolling in the lovely quaint waterfront villages of Newboro and Westport are also less than twenty minutes away with stores and restaurants and even a wonderful winery that has delicious wood-fired pizza!
There is plenty of room for your boat at Sun on the Brow, (if you have one- boat launching at Chaffey’s lock). We also have 3 small fishing boats for rent (boating and fishing licenses required). We have added a Kayak Shack, it is home to our 7 Kayaks, 2 Paddle boards, Canoe and the Adult Lifejackets. The water is crystal clear and warm as Opinicon is not a very deep lake. Water shoes are recommended as the lake bottom is not sand. True to the Rideau Lakes area, Opinicon Lake is weedy.
It is our sincere hope that you will fall in love with this little peace of heaven as we have and that cottaging at ‘Sun on the Brow’ will leave you with an experience that you will want to repeat year after year.
Sincerely, Your Hosts, Bill and Kim For more pictures and our story, follow us on Instagram @sunonthebrowcottages #sunonthebrowopinicon

The property was such a beautiful, peaceful place to escape the busy life. It was perfectly described, the owners were so communicative, friendly and there if we needed absolutely anything. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!
We loved our time at Kim and Bill’s cottage. From comfortable beds, to the fully equipped kitchen and fun times at the Boat House, we couldn’t have asked for a better setup! Kim and Bill are very responsive and kind - we highly recommend booking one of their cottages!
My husband and our family thoroughly enjoyed staying at Grandview cottage. The cottage and outdoor living areas were beautiful with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the wonderful views of Opinicon Lake. We quite enjoyed the comfy beds, well stocked kitchen and variety of outdoor games. Kim and Bill were very helpful and accommodating.
Beautiful, fully equipped house, especially the kitchen. Loved the view from all areas of the house. Lots of accessories that were very much appreciated - patio furniture on the dock, kayaks, games room, paddle boards, games, bird books and more.
This is our first year staying in the Grandview cottage. It was great! Very clean and spacious. It has a wrap around deck with great views of the lake. The stairs lead down to the fire pit area and continue down to the dock. Plenty of seating at each area. Bill and Kim are great host! Always good to see them!
Our family loves to vacation at Opinicon Lake every summer. This was the first time staying at Sun on the Brow and we can honestly say we were thrilled with the overall experience. The pictures show how beautiful Grandview is and the surroundings, but the hosts Kim and Bill make the stay truly meaningful. Their attention to detail does not go unnoticed! We hope to return and enjoy another stay.

This is our third year visiting Sun on the Brow and it didn’t disappoint. Kim and Bill are fantastic hosts. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Grandview is the perfect place to unwind. We’ll be back next year!
We could not have had a better two week stay. The cottage was great, Kim and Bill could not have done anything more for us and the fishing was great. We booked two weeks for next year.
This is our second year staying at Grandview and certainly won’t be our last. The cottage is spacious and spotless with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The views of the lake from the wrap around deck are stunning. Kim and Bill are fantastic hosts and are always close by to ensure you have everything you need.
Enjoyed our stay with old friends. The kitchen was well stocked. The view was picturesque. We were able to kayak as well as use the pedal boat. Lots of space for 6 adults. Close proximity to some quaint little towns.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grandview Cottage. Kim and Bill were the perfect hosts!
The cottage was spacious, clean and well kept. It had a fully stocked kitchen with plenty of dining spaces inside and out.
The views from the wrap-around deck were amazing and the dock was the perfect spot for a cup of coffee in the morning.
Great cottage with lovely view of the lake. Very clean with very comfortable beds and all the comforts of home. We travelled with family who were in their early eighties so loved the one floor layout and the great wraparound deck as well as the walk-in showers. Kim and Bill were easily accessible if we had any questions.
Absolutely beautiful stay in every way. Property is gorgeous; cottage is beautifully renovated, rustic modern, and fully equipped; Kim is lovely, welcoming, and easily contactable if needed. Our stay exceeded every expectation, we will definitely be back. Thank you so much!
Grandview is all that you would wish for and more! Everything spic and span, little touches, lots of space. Thoroughly enjoyed the kayaking, and the peace and quiet. A little piece of paradise! This was our third family visit.
Beautiful lakefront. Cottage is well appointed with lots of nice little touches. Loons calling, geese flocking for the trip south. Saw a group of 4 otters playing every day. Very relaxing trip.
House was clean and was impressed with how well stocked it was with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and shampoo. Had all the kitchen equipment we needed for the week. Having the boat dock at the house was perfect. It was the perfect place for the 4 of us to unwind, relax and recharge.
The property location is in close proximity to everything on Opinicon Lake. Kim and Bill were good host, always willing to help or answer any questions we had. It is evident that they have put a lot of time into renovating the cottages and property. We are excited to return on our next visit to Opinicon Lake.

Bill and I found and fell in love with Sun on the Brow Cottages in the summer of 2020. We purchased and took possession on September 1st of that year. Together with help from family and friends, we have been updating the cottages. We have done our best to keep the original charm while adding new comforts and modern amities. We hope you enjoy your time here as much as we do.
