About this property
Sun on the Brow Cottages - Blue Skies Cottage
Welcome to “Sun on the Brow.” Situated on the border of two of Ontario’s great cottage regions, South Frontenac and Rideau Lakes. Opinicon Lake is part of a series of lakes navigated by water travellers of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rideau River/Canal System since the late eighteen hundreds. Davis Lock to the south, draining into Sand Lake and beyond towards Kingston, and north through Chaffey’s Lock into Clear Lake and towards Ottawa. “Sun on the Brow” is a beautiful setting of four cottages on a property total of 11.25 acres with over 750 feet of lakefront. The Cottages are set on a point of approximately 1.5 acres.
“Blue Skies” Cottage is a three-season cottage with A/C, Wi-Fi and Netflix. The cottage has been completely renovated inside and out. We decided to leave the original Cedar beams and rafters exposed, creating a vaulted ceiling. New windows have been added to give you a clear view of Opinicon Lake from the Great room and Kitchen. The cottage now has a full bathroom, allowing for an indoor shower. Blue Skies cottage has two bedrooms. A Queen bed in one, and the other bedroom has two singles. There is also a Sleeping Loft with a Twin bed for the adventurish. Fresh linens are provided, and the beds are made (after all, who wants to start a vacation making beds?) It has a newly renovated, bright, fully equipped galley kitchen with a fridge, gas stove, microwave, and coffee maker with coffee included. The main living area has a dining table, sectional couch, comfy chair and Big screen Smart TV. Outside, Blue Skies cottage has its own Fire Pit area overlooking Opinicon Lake, Dock, Broil King BBQ, a picnic table, and access to the rest of the property.
‘Sun on the Brow’ also has a family-friendly Boathouse retreat. This 900-square-foot standard room has a pool table, table soccer, air hockey, games, puzzles with a farmhouse table to set them up on and books. The Boathouse has a panoramic view over Lake Opinicon for those who want to curl up and take in the pictures. Great for rainy day activity or anytime.
Opinicon is a peaceful lake, but the amenities are all close by. Less than 5 minutes away is Chaffey’s lock. Here, you will find two marinas, Brown’s and Franklin’s. Browns has a small general store and an LCBO/Beer store outlet. Skycroft Campground, a few minutes down the road, rents Pontoon boats by the day or week. The historic ‘Opinicon Inn’ is the main attraction in Chaffey’s Lock. Three restaurants with indoor and outdoor dining, an ice cream shop and 10 acres of beautiful grounds are the framework of this recently refurbished and renovated charming Inn** For hikers and nature lovers, the ‘Catarqui Trail’ passes through Chaffey’s on the north side of Opinicon Lake. For more experienced hikers, there’s Foley Mountain in Westport. Numerous golf courses are within 20 minutes to get your swing on! Shopping and strolling in the lovely waterfront villages of Newboro and Westport are also less than 30 minutes away, with stores and restaurants and even a fantastic winery that serves delicious wood-fired pizza!
There is plenty of room for your boat at ‘Sun on the Brow’ (If you have one - boat launching at Chaffey’s lock). We also have three small fishing boats for rent (boat and fishing license required). In the centre of the cottages, you will find the Kayak Shack, which holds the 7 Kayaks, 2 Paddleboards and Canoe, and Adult Lifejackets. The water is crystal clear and warm, as Opinicon is not a deep lake. Water shoes are recommended as the lake bottom is not sand. True to the Rideau Lakes area, it can be weedy.
It is our sincere hope that you will fall in love with this little piece of heaven as we have and that cottaging at ‘Sun on the Brow’ will leave you with a lasting experience that you will want to repeat year after year.

I simply cannot say enough about this cottage and the beautiful surrounding area. This is our forth time here and won't be our last. It's absolutely beautiful and very clean. The hosts are very friendly and are the icing on the cake.
Cottage on the Brow is an absolutely gorgeous location. The cottages are fantastic and well stocked and the hosts are incredible. Our family now goes back every year to this amazing place.
We had a wonderful week long stay at Sun on the Brow. So much to do including games in the boat house, kayaks, fire pit and local attractions. Very well appointed cottages, and Kim and Bill were excellent hosts! We look forward to visiting again next year for a family gathering!
Excellent quiet location on the lake's edge with all the modern amenities necessary. Hosts go above and beyond for your comfort and enjoyment. A perfect place to vacation.
We absolutely loved our stay. The cottage was perfect and well stocked with all that we would need for our stay and more. The location is gorgeous and Kim and Bill make you feel right at home. Our stay was so amazing that we have already planed our return for next year.
My friend and I brought our daughters and had a brilliant time on the docks, water, and in the common area of the boathouse. Charming hosts ans cottage!
This was our 3rd stay at Sun on the Brow, first at Blue Skies cottage. We had a lovely relaxing long weekend. We played cards in the boathouse, and spent lots of time out on the paddle boards and kayaks. Hosts are always welcoming. Cottage was clean and well equipped.
Blue Skies cottage sits at the end of a long lane on the edge of quiet Lake Opinicon. The beautifully renovated cottage has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Kim and Bill are available, very welcoming and helpful. The boathouse is an amazing bonus that was a wonderful gathering place for our family at the end of the day. We loved everything about our stay here and highly recommend it.
This property is so relaxing to stay at. Our cottage overlooked the lake. You can hear the loons and see the stars. There is a large deck to sit out on for our exclusive use. The cottage comes fully equipped, is very clean and well looked after. Our hosts are wonderful and very responsive. This is our second time there, more to come!
Just spent a wonderful week at this amazing location. The host were so accommodating and friendly. Amenities in the cottage were top notch.
Excellent location for us being halfway between Montreal and Toronto.
Wildlife in abundance. A wonderful time had and we hope to return. Thanks Bill, Kim, and Rideau.
This was our second year staying at Grandview and it won’t be the last as we could not have been happier. This cottage has everything you could possibly need. Bill & Kim are such fantastic hosts, they’re always close by to ensure a smooth stay. The views from the wrap around deck never disappoint and the trees provide a shady, cool spot to relax. Every detail is considered and the place was spotless when we arrived. Can’t say enough good things about both the cottage and the hosts.
Sun on the Brow, Blue Skies cottage provided our family with a relaxing week surrounded in nature. Opinicon lake was beautiful and peaceful. The Kayaks provided allowed us to explore the beauty of the lake and all the wildlife. The cottage was cozy and stocked with everything we needed. The renovations were well done. Only thing to mention was the size of the shower as it was very small. our family loved the boathouse. Air hockey competitions were lots of fun. Would recommend to others.
A lovely and quiet spot for a relaxing week away. The recent renos of the interior were nicely done, while maintaining the original rustic nature of the cottage. The kitchen was well-stocked with all we needed. Great to have access to kayaks. Our cottage "neighbours" and their dogs were very friendly but respectful of our space. Kim and Bill were always nearby if needed. We appreciated the welcoming gifts left for us on the table. I would only say that if you enjoy swimming, you should know the lake is clean and refreshing but fairly shallow and a bit weedy.
We stayed in a beautiful two bedroom cabin with a loft, indoor shower, full kitchen and a living room with a TV. On the property they had a boathouse with activities (pool table, foosball table, air hockey table & a large table to do puzzles & to play games on). In addition, a shed that had kayaks & paddle boards. Our son in law brought his boat to go fishing. The fishing was great! We also fished right off of the dock and caught fish there. Beautiful sunsets and breath taking views at night with the moon glistening on the water. Bill & Kim were great hosts and pleasant to talk to. We would highly recommend staying here.

Bill and I found and fell in love with Sun on the Brow Cottages in the summer of 2020. We purchased and took possession on September 1st of that year. Together with help from family and friends, we have been updating the cottages. We have done our best to keep the original charm while adding new comforts and modern amities. We hope you enjoy your time here as much as we do.
