Nice location walkable to subway and bus stops. We walked to the United Center for a concert but it is about a 20-30 minute walk. Worth it to avoid the parking fees and crowd after the show. Great communication with the host. Appreciated each bedroom having its own full bathroom plus extras. We had 3 couples staying and there was an extra 4th floor we never even used.

The house is lovely and fully appointed. Cozy throw blankets aplenty, nice bedding and bath linens and everything in the kitchen you could need including sharp knives. We were a group of ten which was a bit tight we felt. There is a double size blow up mattress that you can set up. It was not very comfortable. With the blow up there are 5 beds and two couches that do not open up to beds. I’m not sure how that sleeps 12. Two of the beds are doubles. Very tight for two adults. I feel that 8 is a perfect number for the house. It is a lovely neighborhood with easy walk to the El. It would have been nice to know that the ice maker was broken or for the host to include a fresh bag of ice.

For the good things: very spacious, comfortable beds, awesome to have so many bathrooms, beautifully decorated, great location, easy check-in and check-out. That being said, our group left feeling like the property left a lot to be desired given what we paid.There was 1/4 of a roll of paper towels and only 3 kitchen towels for our group of 12 for a whole weekend. We had to go to the store for more.There was a faint smell of urine throughout the living/dining areas of the property.Most upholstered surfaces and some sheets were stained, some furniture was broken. The sofa in the living room was NOT a double sofa bed as advertised.There were no blinds in the loft, I recommend that guests sleeping there bring eye masks to sleep.**Our biggest qualm: It is one thing to not allow parties or events, we can understand that. It is another thing to say "Absolutely no chit-chat after 11PM. Violation can result in extraction with no refund" to a dozen people who paid a premium to stay here to enjoy time together. If that is the case, the host MUST provide that information in the listing description. We didn't know of this rule until the morning of check-in.**The tone of the messages that I received from the host generally lacked warmth (as quoted above). Had the host had been a bit warmer when communicating with us, perhaps we would have had a bit more patience for the property flaws.

I would like to clarify a few things for future guests. First, this review comes as a surprise, as Brenna was very communicative and nice at first. I wish the communication level remained throughout since I was not asked or let aware about paper/kitchen towels. We have plenty in the coat closet. As for things that are either clear on Description/House Rules: (1) No double sofa is mentioned, (2) 4th floor is a converted family room with no blinds. It is very common to groups of that size to assume this is a party house but our House Rules (received upon reservation confirmation) are very clear when it comes to noise levels and late gatherings. This is a townhouse in a very dense and family-oriented neighborhood. It's also very common for guests not to read those when they confirm their stay. So, I make the effort to copy-and-paste the morning of check-in. Acknowledgement is required before access code is shared and this sometimes gets guests worked up. The chit-chat quote is cherry-picked and not accurate. The rule is pertinent to the balconies. Lastly, I understand how trying to manage such a large group visiting together can get frustrated but I am usually praised by my welcoming and warmth. That can noted on over 40 reviews here (and over 120 on the other popular platform)

Stay for NHL Winter Classic

Amazing!

Great place for a family stay! Stayed for Christmas vacation with multiple families. Amenities were amazing and we got to bring our dogs! Kitchen has everything you need! Doug was the best and so easy to work with.

My family stayed here when visiting me in Chicago. The layout of the space was really great and check-in was easy. Street parking in the neighborhood is a little tricky with permits, as our group had multiple cars. However Doug was very helpful and accommodating x

Awesome home in Chicago

This property is gorgeous! It's the small details that make it extraordinary. We had a very minor issue and Doug responded and had it fixed at 7:30 in the morning. Some have commented on the stairs, and yes there are a lot, but that was the beauty of separating our guests when they needed personal space. We will definitely be back! Thank you Doug for everything. Truly a beautiful home.

Thanksgiving with Family

The checkin experience was arduous. I was not given the several pages of instructions and key codes until the morning of my stay. We were already driving from Ohio and given the extensive requirements we decided to check in before our evening event to be sure all was well. We were late to our event and never felt relaxed due to all of the rules.

Ellen is new to short-term rentals. I am a Super Host and have hosted since 2008. Unfortunately a lot of hotel guests start their short-term rental accounts and migrate when they need to stay in groups. New guests aren't used to House Rules. Ellen is exaggerating a bit about our list (we have 12 rules). When you don't make guests go through the house rules you are subjected to a lot of scrutiny. My question to Ellen is: If I pay to stay at her home for a couple of days, won't you let me know what I am (or not) allowed to do?!?! Every time I give access codes before the spaces are cleaned and ready, guests check in before 3PM. It's disrespectful to my cleaners and to our business. So, yes, I make them acknowledge our rules before sending access codes, the morning of their check-in. My home, my rules. If you don't want to be subjected to other people's homes, book a hotel

Wearing shoes in the house is forbidden. Owner should state this in ad. Then guests could bring mocs or slippers, as the floors are very slippery in socks or bare feet.

This is a great space in an excellent Chicago neighborhood. Very clean and well-stocked, with nice outdoor space including the roof deck with a skyline view. Check-in and communication were easy. The neighborhood is ideal, with lots of restaurants, coffee shops, stores, etc. within an easy walk. Close to El and bus stops. Would definitely stay here again!
