About this property
Beautiful Ocean Views, Large Cabin Home with Floating Dock. Oceanfront, Spacious
Ocean’s Edge is located in the quiet village of Summer Harbor, just next to Winter Harbor and about 35 minutes from Bar Harbor – and the main portion of Acadia National Park. Our property offers stunning views and a quiet retreat in coastal Maine with easy access to hiking, shopping, golfing, and dining.
The house itself is a luxurious log cabin - perfect for a comfortable getaway with oversized bathtubs and an open-air feeling. It boasts floor-to-ceiling windows in the main portion of the house, a chefs kitchen, and plenty of natural light. It also has a laundry room, an expansive front deck, and surrounding grounds that are perfect for exploring. Guests often spot eagles, porcupines, minke whales, and other wildlife in the early morning hours! The size and layout of the house makes it perfect for larger or smaller groups.
Ocean's Edge also has a floating dock, and boat mooring is available for small and large vessels. The coastline is great to kayak and paddleboard along as the waters are peaceful in good weather.
In the morning you could enjoy the deck and sip some coffee while you take in the view and plan your day. During the day you could read book on the dock, walk the shoreline in search of starfish, or set out into the water with a kayak. For dinner grill up a fresh lobster and steamers and enjoy the spectacular sunset.
If you're interested in exploring the area, drive over (or even ride your bike) to Acadia National Park’s lesser travelled Schoodic Peninsula and hike along the bold granite coastline. Grab some lunch in the quaint town of Winter Harbor where you can visit galleries and shop for gifts made by local artisans. You can also head to nearby Jones Pond or Donnell Pond to swim and fish. For more adventures, you can catch the ferry to Bar Harbor and hike the trails of Acadia, or walk around Bar Harbor.
While there are two fireplaces in the home, unfortunately, insurance restrictions prohibit the use of these by tenants. Please see language in rental agreement that will be provided.

Outstanding gertaway in Maine. Breaathtaking views, house is amazing, loved our stay. Near business Lob Store for lobster and great restrauants in the area. We would stay there again
We've stayed at a number of places along the Maine coast and this was by far the best. It's a beautiful house, well decorated, nicely situated and thoughtfully landscaped. We saw whales in the cove to the side of the float and bald eagles right near the deck. On our excusions we also saw a number of seals. Also, the property is close to many local hiking trails, golf, great restaurants and within driving distance of Acadia NP & Campobello Island. A top notch stay!
This was a 3 generation family trip and we all loved this house and its location. Sitting inside, on the deck, among the evergreens or on the dock every location was peaceful, relaxing and provided wonderful views. We loved our time here. The Acadia park was close and Winter Harbor was a cute town. Thank you so much for having us at your wonderful home.
We had a wonderful week at Ocean's Edge cabin outside of Winter Harbor. We loved the expansive house, the beautiful view, the luxurious bathrooms and kitchen and the calm serenity of our view over the bay. Stunning views of the stars at night and daytime excursions to Schoodic Point and Acadia, with an easy ferry ride to Bar Harbor. Can't really say enough nice things about the house; this was our fifth year visiting Maine and this house was hands-down the nicest we've stayed at!
Perfect for a family gathering - although not ideal for those with mobility issues. Deck was amazing as was the interior and exterior wood framing. We fell in love with the bathrooms. Did not expect it to be this gorgeous.
Awesome cabin! The pictures don’t do justice with how nice of a stay the cabin is. The view of the ocean was great. The dock to the ocean was nice for sitting and/or fishing. We were able to watch the boats come in and check their lobster cages almost everyday. One day we had a porpoise swim by along with several jellyfish and a bald eagle. The neighborhood was very quiet and easy to find. The weather was perfect while we were there and there was always a nice breeze when the windows were open in the house. Winter Harbor is a cute town less than 10 minutes down the road with a couple of places to eat, grocery store, ice cream, coffee, etc. Bar Harbor is less than an hour drive and was fun to visit with lots of things to do. If you’re looking for some good lobster, be sure to check out the Hot Dog Cart in Winter Harbor and get some ice cream from Me and Ben’s.
Property exceeded expectations. It was clean, functional, close enough to Bar Harbour but far enough to feel separation, and the views were unmatched. Our kids played on the rocky shore for hours, we cooked in the kitchen and had dinner on the back deck watching the ocean. Great week overall

Wonderful Property
We spent a week here and loved every minute. The house is very well furnished and extremely comfortable. The landscaping and incredible view make you want to spend your time on the deck or down by the water. What a treat to watch the sunset over the water! We spent several days at Acadia, but then couldn't wait to return to this retreat at the end of the day. If you stay here, you will not be disappointed!
Don’t hesitate on this one! Absolutely beautiful, the pictures don’t do it justice. As soon as we arrived we were blown away by the view, the gardens and the beautiful craftsmanship of the property. Plenty of room; we only had 4 in our group, but there was three good-sized beds and I think we counted two sleeper sofas and a futon. Well-equipped and had everything we needed. Would love to go again and share it with our extended family!
The home is very modern and artistically decorated. Landscaped grounds are well maintained. All furniture is new and comfortable. Our family and friends had a beautiful week in this location. The only thing to be aware of is that the loft bedroom is completely open to the living area below which could be fine for children, but was slightly uncomfortable for my adult son and his girlfriend.
It was missing a few items that would have been helpful. For example, a measuring cup, a grill cleaner, the DVD player mentioned, deck chairs, lamps, etc.

Hi Stephen-
Thank you for your review. There should be a measuring cup and grill cleaner at the property. We're sorry you were unable to locate them- will make sure the cleaning crew locates them and puts them in a more obvious place. There are deck chairs in the shed- but will also be sure they are put out for future tenants. The dvd player is out for repair as it was damaged during the previous visit. But thank you again for your feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your stay!
We loved every minute at this house. The location cannot be better. It’s so quiet, and the views are glorious. There are decorative touches all over the house, and some of them are fragile so it isn’t a house for rough housing. All the spaces are generous, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is easy to use. Eating out on the deck overlooking the garden and ocean is a special experience. We enjoyed kayaking off the dock every morning and watching bald eagles fish in the cove. The Wi-Fi is pretty weak, which we found to be part of the charm of disconnecting.
What a wonderful place! The views from every floor are stunning. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to work in. Beds are comfortable and associated furniture is adequate. The house is well maintained and tastefully furnished. There are games and puzzles for a family with young children, but many of the home’s decorations are fragile. We all enjoyed fishing from the dock and watching dolphins swim by. A local lobsterman gifted us a bag of lobsters one day while we were fishing! There were some mechanical systems issues during our stay that were addressed very quickly by the home owner/property manager. Communication with the owner/manager was excellent. Access to Winter Harbor or Ellsworth is very easy. We highly recommend the Treehouse Restaurant and Seafood Grille in Winter Harbor for dinner!
This house sits on a beautiful property! The architecture of the landscaping allows you to take a number of tiny "trails" down to the water. It's not a hard or long walk, but a beautiful one. When you go to Maine for hikes, kayaking, swimming and evenings spent watching the sun dip below the horizon, this is the house you want.
It's a little more north than we usually stay and I was a little nervous. But Winter Harbor is an adorable little town right up the road with many choices for restaurants - we loved the Gallery and ice cream - Me & Ben's in a must! Staying here offered the opportunity to explore Schoodic more than we had in the past and it has some of the most beautiful hikes - easily rivaling those on MDI. We rented bikes at the entrance of Schoodic and biked the loop, which we loved.
The house itself was clean and spacious and we were very comfortable in the evening watching old movies after lobster on the deck.
The house is very open. The upstairs bedroom is a loft with 2 beds which my boys loved, a private (only room with a door) queen bedroom on the main floor for my 13 year old daughter and my husband and I stayed in the master suite which expands across the entire lower level with doors to the backyard.
The host was amazing. We had a couple of silly questions throughout our 2 week stay and she always responded immediately and was overwhlemingly helpful.
Another great Maine vacation and only 332 more days until our next one.

Very Difficult Host
Although the house and property are beautiful this negative review is due to difficulties with the host
In the 9 months after booking, we contacted the host (rarely) with vital questions about our stay. The host did not respond via the VRBO portal. By googling we found a phone # - contact still very slow. Final contact was one week prior to arrival, seeking check-in details. 6 days later we were shocked to receive a secondary contract to sign before she would provide check in info. Despite our issues with the contract, her lawyer was unavailable to discuss until after we were on our way to Maine. Manipulated and coerced, we signing the contract to prevent cancellation of our trip.
We respectfully left the house exactly as we found it. Thusly we were flabbergasted to hear from VRBO of a $500 charge by the host who accused us of staining the living room rug and rearranging furniture to cover the damage. Totally untrue!!!! We tried to contact the host for discussion, to no avail. We contacted VRBO to contest the charges. They promised an investigation including our side of the story - never happened! The charge was processed, with no input from us.
Our last recourse was contesting the charge with our credit card company. We provided a detailed report and filled in a lengthy questionnaire. They thoroughly reviewed our side of the story and vindicated us by refunding all of our money. We won yes, but this experience has left an ugly stain on our vacation memories.
Hurricane Fiona put a bit of a damper, literally, on our vacation plans at the end of the week but that gave us more time to do a puzzle, cook, visit, eat and watch movies. Before that however, we were able to get out on the kayak we brought with us and the paddle board we rented. We saw harbor seals and porpoises which was definitely a highlight! Really a wonderful week!,
Oceans Edge is a gem of a place! Far enough from Bar Harbor to enjoy seclusion, close enough to visit as often as you like. The home is well appointed in every regard and the gardens and grounds are superb. And who wouldn't want to watch from the dock eagles hunting while the sun sets. This is a daytrippers dream.
Beautiful, well-maintained home with a spectacular view of the water. Watch the resident eagles swoop and soar and lobstermen (and women) tend their traps set off the property’s rocky beach. We enjoyed hunting sea glass and shells, exploring the tide pools and fishing off the floating dock for mackerel and pollock. In the evening we listened to the wind blowing through the evergreens while seated on the home’s expansive back deck or inside in the sun room. As one family member said, “this may be the most peaceful place on earth.”
This beautiful house and property were the highlight of our trip to Acadia National Park. The view from inside the home, on the deck, atop the beautifully landscaped trail to the beach, and from the floating dock are simply breathtaking. The house was very clean and well stocked. There is the most lovely sitting room with big windows that overlook the harbor, it’s the perfect spot to cuddle up with a good book and a cup of coffee! Book it, it’s sure to be a place you’ll never forget!
The photos don’t do the house or the view justice. Beautiful inside and out and we had everything we needed. Good communication from the property owner. We would highly recommend the property.
My family and I had the most memorable vacation. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Thank you.
