About the host

For nearly 40 years, our family has treasured this peaceful retreat. While our busy lives don’t always allow us to be here, we are delighted to share our cabin with other families. We hope you create wonderful memories and enjoy your Black Hills vacation as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

The cabin is nestled on what was once a bustling ranch owned by my great-uncle, who still resides just down the road. This land, where cattle once roamed, holds a special place in my heart. In 1991, my grandparents chose this serene location to build their retirement cabin, ensuring they stayed close to family.
Our cabin sits on 3 acres of pine-covered land, directly across from the National Forest, and is easily accessible via a paved road. Located just 9 miles north of Hill City on Deerfield Road, the only gravel you’ll encounter is our limestone driveway.
One of my favorite activities here is enjoying breakfast on the deck, watching the sunrise over the trees. The peaceful surroundings are perfect for relaxation. As you explore the yard, you might spot Jack, a friendly rabbit who has been our neighbor for three years. Deer and wild turkeys often graze nearby, adding to the natural charm.
Bird watchers will delight in the variety of birds attracted by our feeders. At night, the clear skies reveal a stunning display of stars and constellations, and you might even hear the distant howl of coyotes.
Come and experience the tranquility and natural beauty of our cabin. We look forward to hosting you!

What makes this property unique

Our cherished family cabin, ideally situated near Hill City and centrally located to all the main attractions in the Black Hills. This special retreat was lovingly built by my late grandfather, with contributions from our entire family, making it a unique and heartfelt place.
Though I don’t live nearby, I relish my weekly trips to the hills to prepare the cabin for our guests. Recently, we’ve updated the interior décor, blending wildlife themes with modern design, and featuring artwork created by my grandparents.
Our cabin stands out for its easy accessibility by car, with no need to navigate low-maintenance roads. We offer Wi-Fi through Century Link, so you can stay connected, enjoy your favorite shows on the 75" smart TV, or even catch up on work.
As your host, I personally take care of the grounds and clean the cabin after each stay, ensuring it’s always in top condition for our next guests. We are not a management or cleaning company; this is our only property. When you reach out, you’ll be speaking directly with me, the person who cleaned the cabin and who knows the area well, having worked in the surrounding areas since 1998, let me know if you have any questions or need a recommendation.
We take immense pride in our work and strive to make your stay truly unique. When the cabin isn’t occupied by guests, you’ll often find my family and me outside, working on projects to enhance the property for your enjoyment.
