About the host

Host profile image
I am a structural engineer, a husband, and a father with a young family, and I have always had a deep appreciation for architecture, craftsmanship, and spaces that feel meaningful. I love creating places that are not only comfortable, but memorable, with character that reflects the history and spirit of the local area.

Before becoming an engineer, I worked in coffee shops and restaurants while putting myself through school. That experience taught me the value of great service, attention to detail, and making people feel genuinely welcome, all of which shape how I host today.

Outside of work, I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking, and exploring mountain ranges around the world. I appreciate places that feel connected to nature, history, and adventure, and that is exactly the kind of experience I hope guests have while staying here.

Why they chose this property

In many ways, this property chose me. My parents purchased it in 1998 as their forever home, and it has been an important part of our family story ever since. When I was in high school, my father and I spent four years building the main house together. That experience had a huge impact on me and helped inspire the path that eventually led me into structural engineering.

The guest house, where The Train Station Lodge is located, was built before the main house and carries its own unique charm and history. What makes this property so special is its setting. It feels peaceful, wooded, and tucked away, yet it is still conveniently close to many of the area’s best attractions. Guests can enjoy the quiet beauty of the property while still being within easy reach of historic towns, outdoor recreation, and regional destinations.

It offers the best of both worlds, a secluded retreat away from the pace of the city, with plenty to explore nearby.

What makes this property unique

The Train Station Lodge was inspired by the rich railroad history of this region. Rail lines and train stations played an important role in shaping this area and in the broader growth of America, connecting communities, supporting commerce, and helping define the character of towns throughout the region. I wanted this property to reflect that history in a way that feels thoughtful, distinctive, and memorable.

Rather than creating a generic rental, I wanted to design a space with a strong sense of place. The lodge blends the warmth of a woodland retreat with railroad-inspired character, giving guests an experience that feels tied to the history of the area rather than disconnected from it. From the name to the design details, the goal was to create something that feels unique, immersive, and rooted in local heritage.

Combined with the wooded setting, walking trails, and the story behind the property itself, The Train Station Lodge offers more than just a place to stay. It offers guests a stay with personality, history, and a setting they are likely to remember long after their trip.
