About this property
The Roost: Mesa-Edge Valley Views, Hot Tub & Fenced Dog Orchard near Grand Mesa
Escape to the “Roost”—a 3,800 sq ft Colorado retreat perched above Cedaredge with unobstructed views of the Grand Mesa. With a private hot tub, wraparound deck, and fenced orchard-fringed yard, this is your perfect launch point for relaxation, hiking, wine tasting, or family gatherings.
Whether you’re sipping local wine at sunset or stargazing from the spa, the Roost delivers an unforgettable mountain escape—perfect for couples, families, or friends. Furbabies welcome!
The space This 3,800 sq ft space is all about the incredible view. Drinking your coffee in the morning on the back deck is the perfect way to get yourself started. Beyond the deck is a fully unobstructed (except for ravens soaring the thermals and occasional hummingbirds) view of the entire valley. From Delta to Grand Mesa and the stars above.
Inside the home has been fully remodeled with new floors, beds, and ceilings. We would describe the vibe as western Colorado modern. There is also a dog door in the kitchen to allow your fur babies to join you in our fenced in private orchard.
The home sits on 1.5 acres with plenty of parking (including RV setup). You have the entire property to yourself including the home, RV Hookup, and our Hidden Orchard. High speed fiber and Roku make this a wonderful place to work from home (if you can avoid being distracted by the view!). The TVs use Roku’s Guest mode, which signs guests out of their streaming accounts automatically on the day they choose.
Interaction with guests Though we won't be there in person we are almost always available for a call or text. We also have family and staff in the area who can help with just about any issue.
Other things to note Here on the Western Slope the air is dry and mountain nights cool off fast. Upstairs, each bedroom has its own mini-split with a remote for heating and cooling. Downstairs is heated by the main furnace on an Ecobee thermostat, plus a space heater.

The host, Dylan made us feel welcomed and was readily available if we needed anything. The home was super neat and clean. We loved staying here. The sunset views I wlll never forget.
The property is just as described - the property manager was very proactive with communications to address a few minor issues related to the previous guests. Great view! Would definitely stay here again.
House was clean and functional. It was a challenge to get to the jacuzzi so we didn’t use it. The owners were quick to answer messages. There were plenty of items in the kitchen for use. Mixer and blender might be nice additions though. Views were amazing. We fall asleep to movies so no tv in the master was a little surprising. TV remotes in living area were somewhat frustrating. I tried plugging in my device and could not get the tv input to change. And took a little research to get the voice over to stop talking over everything. But we were not there to watch tv so not a big deal. Over all we had a wonderful stay.
We greatly enjoyed our family stay at this awesome pet friendly property.
Everything we needed to cook and enjoy ourselves
The view from the deck was awesome And everything was perfect
We had a wonderful stay in Cederedge! The house was big enough for all of us. We really appreciated being able to bring our dog. The dog door and fenced back yard area were fantastic. The owner was easily contacted and very helpful. Thanks for a great stay!
Excellent host, big house with plenty of beds and space
The place was a little further out of town than some might want. This was offset by the great views of the valley and town as well as massive amounts of space to spread out in the house. The host had excellent communication with us before and during our stay.
The views from the deck are wonderful, we loved watching the hummingbirds. House was very clean and spacious. We enjoyed spending time on the Grand Mesa, on hot days it was so much cooler. Great, quiet location and we really appreciated the fenced in yard for our dog. Apricots were ripe on the trees in the yard, that was a yummy treat!
We joined our Cedaredge family for Thanksgiving this year. We enjoyed having this space to spend time with our adult sons in between festivities at my in-laws home. It was large, comfortable and the view is spectacular. The master bed was very comfortable .
Be careful driving up to the house lots of beautiful deer around here!

Marci,
Thank you for the wonderful review! And yes, those deer are beautiful but they don’t have much awareness when it comes to cars/roads. We hope you only had the visuals and not the fender bending.
Respectfully,
Dylan and Alisha
Our stay was only for 3 nights as we were here on a business trip. Everything was very clean and organized. Host sent very detailed instructions and process was very smooth. Each of us had our own private bedroom. (4 in total) We used the grill and enjoyed the views every morning and night. Hope to make it back!
What a wonderful place! From the beautiful wood floors to the wonderful built-ins, not to mention the fantastic, extensive view of the valley from the deck. Each room was beautifully decorated and furnished. The kitchen was very well laid out and a pleasure to cook in. Having the hot tub was a wonderful way to relax after a day of fishing, hiking and exploring Cedaredge and the surrounding towns. Couldn't ask for a more wonderful home away from home! Can't wait to go back again.
Dylan’s house was fantastic. Great location close to Grand Mesa National Forest, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Montrose, Telluride.. the list is endless. And million dollar views! The house had everything we needed and plenty of room. Check-in process was super easy and communication with Dylan was prompt. And the kids loved the bunk room. Great custom bunk beds. We will definitely be back to stay when visiting our family in the area.
The house is wonderful! It's completely remodeled inside. It's quiet and the views are great! It has a doggie door and a fenced yard. It would be difficult to find a better place for dogs. The house is at 7,000 ft on the mesa to the east of Cedaredge. It's about a 10 minute drive from town.
We were there in mid December to Nordic ski at Grand Mesa. There was a lot of snow up at Grand Mesa but hardly any snow at the house. Cedaredge is not what you would call a resort location but the house made us feel like we were staying in a fancy resort.
I highly recommend this property.
Wow! What a wonderful experience for my wife, our adult daughter, and myself! The house met and exceeded our expectations. One of the critical elements of a great stay is environmental and July is warm and the A.C. worked amazing! We stayed cool and comfortable. The kitchen had every amenity, several meals were grilled outside, the living areas provided all the creature comforts of home. The view from every part of the back of the house is stellar, the deck patio was a morning and nightly routine as each evening the sunset was the show to watch. Top all that off with the Jacuzzi and you have the perfect exclamation mark. Throw in the Mesa experiences of off roading, fishing, and hiking, then a day trip to Arches National Park and there you have it, Amazing!
The wonderful view from the deck of The Roost encompasses Cedaredge and the surrounding valley, with Grand Mesa as a backdrop. This home, tucked among the cedars on an hill outside of Cedaredge was very nice inside, easily accommodating my wife, daughter and myself (we could have had another family easily stay) during our visit. Everything we needed aside from the provided dry goods, grill, appliances, dishes and utensils was available at the market, an easy 10 minute drive. Inside the house we were comfortable, the tasteful decor and thoughtful amenities (ceiling fans, AC unit, walk-in showers, body soap and shampoo) all let us enjoy our peaceful stay. We spent every morning and evening out on the deck, getting cool breezes and beautiful views. I would definitely seek out this house again - it allowed us to thoroughly enjoy our stay.
My group really enjoyed our stay. Cedaredge is a remote, quiet town, but with the grocery store and other amenities, we had everything we needed. As noted in the on-line overview of the house, the view from the deck is very nice. The rooms were clean, entertainment systems worked great as did all the appliances. House has many board and other games to play and the grill works well. We did not get to sample the hot tub, but it looked like it would have been nice. It was hot and clean and is located under the upper deck. There is plenty of parking. House is located on a large lot in a quiet area. The summit of the Grand Mesa is not far away with beautiful views. Grand Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is about 30 to 40 minutes away.Highly recommend this place.
We loved our stay at The Roost! Everything was advertised correctly. The house was large enough for our family, including dogs, so we could spend time together and also have our own space at night. The house was very clean, which we appreciated. The views were fabulous from the sunrises to sunsets and we loved the hummingbirds! Dylan was prompt when answering any questions we had. We enjoyed many hikes in the Grand Mesa National Forest and surrounding areas. We would definitely come back again and highly recommend The Roost!
Staying at the roost was an amazing choice! We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! When it comes to being accommodating this place had it all from a full kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook, entertainment, hot tub and beautiful views over looking the town of cedaredge. If you're looking for an amazing place to stay on the western slope I would highly recommend staying here!! By far the best VRBO I've stayed at!!
The Roost is a beautiful & quiet spot to enjoy time away from the hustle n bustle of everyday life! The owners are easy to communicate with and were very helpful during our stay which was a real plus. We highly recommend the Roost!
We're Dylan and Alisha, and The Roost didn't start with us — it started with family. The property reflects generations of family history in the Cedaredge area, including ranching, orchard agriculture, and the seasonal movement of livestock onto Grand Mesa during summer months. Our family's grandfather once rode horseback from a farm in Cactus Park, up over the Mesa, and down to school in Cedaredge each day. The same views he saw are the ones you'll see from the deck today.
The three of us — the two of us and our daughter — are simply the current stewards. We get to live here for a while, care for it, and share it with people who are curious enough to slow down and notice where they are.
The Roost has also always been shaped by dogs. Our Woofpack — Darwin, Figgy Pudding, Artemis, Eloise Pidgewidgeon and Cinnamon Sugar Buns — tested the paths before the house was finished. The flooring, the outdoor access and the fenced Hidden Orchard all reflect that, and dogs are welcomed as guests, not tolerated as exceptions.
What we love most is the rhythm of the place: coffee on the deck watching light move across the valley, ravens riding the thermals below, hummingbirds at the deck feeders, long sunsets, clear stars, and quiet. We want staying here to feel less like a vacation rental and more like borrowing a well-loved mountain home.
We love hearing about your stay, and we would much rather answer a quick question than have you wonder quietly or guess. Kick off your boots, pour a glass of something local, and let the dogs nap. This is your Roost too — at least for a while.
Why they chose this property
The Roost sits on Cedar Mesa at about 7,000 ft, above the town of Cedaredge and at the foot of Grand Mesa, the world's largest flat-topped mountain. It sits at the transition between fertile valley farmland and the high country: from the deck you can see the Surface Creek Valley below, the Mesa rising behind, and the West Elk Mountains and the San Juan range in the distance.
Grand Mesa is capped by basalt lava flows roughly 10 million years old. Snow that falls on the Mesa feeds Surface Creek and supports the orchards and farms below, and The Roost sits directly within that system. Many places offer views. Few offer context.
Cedaredge sits where the orchards meet the mesa, in a fruit-growing valley famous for apples, peaches, and lavender. The town balances its agricultural roots with a growing arts community, a walkable Main Street, and a pace that feels deliberate rather than slow. It took its name from the trees lining the Mesa rim: early settlers called them cedars, though they are botanically junipers.
What we enjoy most is life at elevation. The air is thinner, the sky is darker, and the stars are clearer. Weather announces itself early, light changes shape through the day, and wildlife moves through daily. From late April through September, dozens of Broad-tailed hummingbirds visit the deck feeders.
It is also a true basecamp. Grand Mesa National Forest, with over 300 alpine lakes, is about 15 minutes away, with Crag Crest Trail, Mesa Lakes, snowmobiling on 120+ miles of groomed trails, and cross-country skiing at County Line and Skyway. Black Canyon of the Gunnison is about an hour away, Colorado National Monument about 1.5 hours, and Gold Medal fishing in the Gunnison Gorge about 45–50 minutes. Orchards, wineries, restaurants, small towns, and wide-open drives are all part of the rhythm. Grand Mesa remains largely undiscovered, a place where the adventure-to-traffic ratio still favors solitude.
What makes this property unique
The Roost is not a resort. It is a place to understand where you are. Perched above Cedaredge at about 7,000 ft, it sits at the intersection of geology, landscape, and comfort, overlooking a valley fed by water stored in volcanic rock above. Many places offer views. Few offer context.
Inside, 3,800 square feet are arranged to balance gathering and retreat. The great room anchors the house, with large windows oriented toward the valley and Mesa, connecting the kitchen, dining area, and living room. The dining table seats 8, and four bedrooms sleep up to 15 — including Base Camp, the kids' favorite, with two custom-built bunk beds (each a twin over a full), Christmas lights, privacy curtains, and USB charging ports.
Outside, the Sunset Deck is our most photographed space: watch the alpenglow paint the Grand Mesa in shades of pink and gold. The hot tub comes with panoramic valley views. The Hidden Orchard is a private fenced orchard with benches, fruit trees, and flowers, and the dog door opens directly into it, so dogs roam freely while humans relax nearby. The house was built and refined by people who live with dogs.
The Roost is remote-ready, with a dedicated office (standing desk, dual monitors, and high-speed Wi-Fi), and RV-friendly, with a 30-amp RV hookup and a level parking area. On clear nights the property regularly sees Bortle 3 to 4 skies: thousands of stars visible to the naked eye and clear Milky Way structure.
Our guidebook is intentionally detailed. It explains the geology under your feet, the ecology around you, and the human history layered into the land. The Roost is a quiet place by design, meant for people who appreciate space, landscape, and learning.
