About the host
Hosted by John Kralik

Our current full time residence is in the Hudson Valley area of New York, about 90 minutes north of Manhattan along the Hudson River. We bought the lake house as a long term plan for retirement and just began renting in 2011 due to lack of time allowed by demanding jobs. I'm Vice President of the Tonner Doll Company and my partner is Direct of Design and Construction for a college campus. We're from St. Clair, Michigan and Burlington, Vermont respectively and both grew up on the water-hence, this lake property. We looked at over 50 houses in the two year search and knew we would buy this house before we even got inside. All it took was a walk to the lake, a turn to see the lake side of the house and that was it.
Why they chose this property
As stated above, owning a house on Lake Champlain was a long term goal for us both. Being in close proximity to family in the Burlington area, as well as everything Burlington and Vermont offer is very satisfying. We believe the house is in one of the best areas of the lake, with three miles of open water in front of the house facing directly west and looking at North Hero island, as well as the peninsula that forms West Swanton, also referred to as Hog Island. This part of the lake is very quiet, perfect for swimming, kayaking and water skiing. Several of our past guests have brought boats and tied them to our private mooring.
What makes this property unique
This house and property are very unique to the area. The exterior of the house is log sided, evoking a slightly Adirondack flair to the place and it's sited about 8' above and 20' back from the lake itself. As one family member stated when walking in the first time, 'the lake kind of smacks you in the face'. The stone barbeque was one of those unexpected details that just closed the deal for me. The fact that you're looking at Lake Champlain while grilling certainly doesn't hurt at all either.
