The Purdue house, built in 1911, is one of the oldest historic homes on the island and was home to one of Orcas Islands original settling families! Located in THE HEART OF EASTSOUND. This 100+ years old home retains some quirky historic features, hidden and quietly perched atop Victory Hill overlooking Eastsound village and offers views of Eastsound itself. Access to the ENTIRE house. PET FRIENDLY. WALKING DISTANCE from coffee, food, shopping groceries, bars, parks, beaches, tours.
WELCOME to the "Purdue House". The "Purdue House", built in 1911 was one of the first home built on Orcas Island by one of the first families to settle on the island. You and your travel companion will have a choice for sleeping quarters. The main bedroom features one king size bed suitable for couples or anyone wanting to share a bed. The second bedroom features two twin beds, a working nook and a lounge chair more suitable for those who may prefer to sleep separately in the two twin bed arrangement. Let us know your preference when booking! Whichever bedroom is not being used will be locked and not accessible during your stay. This allows us to rent the "Perdue House" and all its entire home features and amenities at a discounted rate. If you are traveling with a party of more than two you are required to book from our other listing/the entire home with two bedrooms. That listing is titled "Heart of Eastsound-Entire home w/ fireplace". This two-story home has 1 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms with a maximum occupancy of 2. Both bedroom options are located downstairs. One bedroom has a private entrance and two twin beds. The full bathroom downstairs offers a tub/shower, full vanity, and outside access to a big wooden deck. The "Purdue House" offers a full kitchen with a table/seating for four, a four burner gas stove, electric oven, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, blender, utensils, wine glasses, plates, bowls, pots/pans, baking pans ect.

Guest will have access to the ENTIRE home minus whichever bedroom that is not being used. This perfectly located home is in the heart of the historic village of Eastsound, Orcas Island’s downtown district. This walkable village bustles with life—a visitor’s dream of galleries, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and a history museum. Historically, it was the center of Coast Salish tribal commerce. Now, locals and visitors enjoy its natural beauty and quaint charms. After spending a day whale watching, shopping, or hiking, you can relax with a massage, delicious meal, concert or play, or head to the seasonal farmer’s market.
Just a beautiful 10-minute drive from the "Purdue House" is the highly recommended Moran State Park. Moran park offers over 50 miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horses. Seasonally, the two lakes located within the park allow non-motorized fishing. While visiting the park, you can take a 15-minute drive to the top of Mt. Constitution with breathtaking views of the entire Puget Sound area.
Pet Policy:
There’s a 2 pet maximum at the Purdue House. Upon booking please notify us if you will be traveling with more than one pet as there is an additional fee per pet. $60 per pet due upon booking.
**To reach Orcas Island, you'll need to take the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes. I highly recommend booking your ferry in advance at the Washington State Ferry website - especially during weekends or summer months.
**Please consider travel insurance for your visit. Orcas Island travel can sometimes be impacted by weather or ferry schedules, and we’re unable to refund for these or other unexpected disruptions. Insurance can help protect your trip if something unexpected comes up.
**If your desired minimum nightly stay falls outside the current settings, feel free to reach out to the host directly—exceptions can sometimes be made
Curious what we mean by quirky historic features?! Just what you might expect in a 100 year old home. As you approach the Purdue home you'll enter through a front entry rain porch, perfect for those PNW days. The house features all the modern amenities and upgrades necessary for a comfortable stay and you just can't miss the old charm character for a memorable stay. A noteworthy wood burning fireplace presents a striking brick accent wall in the airy kitchen. The bright kitchen windows wrap around into the living room providing ample views to town below. Noteworthy fixtures and features around the home will have you wondering what life may have been like in this very home years and years ago. Although we've straightened and aligned the couches, beds, pillows and chairs you might get the impression the home is slightly listing. It's not the local Orcas Winery "Bloom" wine you're enjoying playing tricks on you, the home does have a bit of a bowed effect.
