About this property

Just 15 minutes from Boone/AppState... Close to all attactions...
Summer...New river-Tubing/fishing 15 minutes away, Tweetsie-20 minutes
Winter-Ski Slopes are just a short drive
AppState families.... it is an easy drive to campus...perfect for family visits.

The property is secluded away from any developement....located on a 200 acre family farm. The cabin is located near a small creek with over 40 acres of land to explore. Trails will take you to a small private creek with native trout. From the front porch, you can see deer, turkey, and other wildlife.

This rustic cabin was relocated in 1957 from the original family home place. Cabin's kitchen will meet the needs of weekend visitors with modern conveniences. The private bedroom loft offers a large window that looks over 5 acres of pasture. The living area includes a TV (for DVD's only- no satellite or cable) and assortment of DVD's and games.

The main living areas has two sleeper sofas that will sleep four. We intentionally did not put Wi-Fi or Cable in the Cabin so you can truly get away. However cell service is strong so you can still receive text and voice messages.

Please note: the steps to the loft bedroom are steep.... Also, the front steps (3 steps) onto the porch are rock and the last one is higher that the first two. There is a smaller step to the right of the porch you can use to get onto the porch and into the house if needed. This cabin is not handicapped accessible...
WINTER MONTHS...IF WE HAVE A BIG DUMP OF SNOW...YOU WILL NEED 4X4 or AWD to get up the last hill......No Snow....No Problem....But if we get a lot of snow you will need a vehicle that puts traction on all 4 tires....
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

About the host

In 2010 Becca and I were able to take our two boys, Russell (8yrs) and Joseph(6yrs) and move back 'home' to Boone. We wanted our boys to grow up in a rural area where they could grow and explore. This property is full of history and memories that we wanted to share with our guests.

Why they chose this property

This property was sold in 1957 by Ed's Grandfather to a school teacher in Florida for a price 'no one would take'. 53 yrs later Ed and Becca were able to buy the property back and turn in to weekend/short term rentals. The property is nestled in 200 acres of family farmland. With a creek, waterfalls, and plenty area to just roam, it is a great place to just get away. The original Cabin was made from the same logs that came from the cabin Ed's dad was born in in 1924. It is a cozy place where you can just relax.

We know that family often includes the four legged kind. Our cabin has 100% rock or hardwood floors. We welcome dogs so they can too explore and see what country living is about. We are a working farm so if your dog likes to chase cattle, chickens, or other farm animals, you will need to bring a leash...

The Cabin is just 10 minutes from Boone and 20 minutes from Blowing Rock., so you are also close to the many activities the high county has to offer.

Visiting Spring,Summer, and Fall
Elk Knob State Park for hiking, the New River for Tubing/ Canoe/ Kayak are just 15 minutes away. Grand father Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Zip lining, and Parkway are only 25 minutes away.

Winter we have three ski slopes that await between 20 and 40 minutes away as well as several places to sled and tube.

What makes this property unique

The trails will lead you into the woods where you find a creek that will sooth you body and mind. The creek offers many opportunities for both young and old. With a waterfall, places for children to explore, and space for adults to reflect and relax. From the front porch you can look over the valley of Howard's creek while watching the sun rise. This is a quiet retreat where many folks have come to rest and relax. The Cabin welcomes couples and families who want to just "Un-Plug"
