WINTER MONTHS...IF WE HAVE A BIG DUMP OF SNOW...YOU WILL NEED 4X4 or AWD to get up the last hill......No Snow....No Problem....But if we get a lot of snow you will need a vehicle that puts traction on all 4 tires....

The cabin was exactly as described. I particularly appreciated the privacy and sense of being alone. The cabin was comfortable and had all the necessities for cooking. I met the owner, Ed, while out walking in his property. A lovely creek runs through the property. He helped me to feel at home and provided great information about local hikes and other points of interest. Great place for solo travelers or small families.
Quaint and super cozy. Beautiful views. Pet friendly and great location. Our only challenges were that this cabin is not ideal for tall people. My boyfriend is 6’5” and it was challenging for him in this rental. Also, the stairs to the bedroom upstairs (the only bedroom) are very steep and narrow footing. Also there is no internet or cable here. Other than those things we had a great visit!
The property felt like a home away from home in the mountains. It was very inviting and our dogs loved it there. We will definitely be back again in the future. It was a beautiful view in the middle of a farm and you could hear the creek water running. It was very relaxing.
Clean place, cute cabin very quiet as well! It was all we expected and more! It was amazing for our dog and toddler to have creek access (water was calm when we stayed). As well as it was less than 10 minutes from getting into boone to go to breweries etc. Lots of hiking trails nearby which is why we came to visit. Fireplace out back and s'mores were a great time and a new experience for my toddler! We loved this little cabin and would definitely come back!
The place was generally good, but for a few minor things that should be standard for most vrbo stays: 1) no pasta strainer, 2) no oven baking tray, 3) no instructions (with among other things, how to properly check out)., all the pillows were super thick, which sucks for people who like smaller thinner ones, 4) the to is of the absolute thinnest variety, and the heater was not working well the first day we got there. It took 4 hours to get from 58 to 70. Not sure about the heater, but the other things could easily be fixed to make this a 5 star stay.
The cabin was very cozy and so authentically rustic! Loved it! The weather was cold and there was snow. We saw deer and wild turkeys. We did not explore the property, but definitely offers a lot. We want to return in the spring or summer! Also was decorated so nicely for Christmas!
Weekend getaway with family — there were 5 of us and we were very cozy in the cabin with ample space for sleeping and cooking meals. Loved the peaceful location just outside of town. Cabin was very clean — check in was a breeze. Plan to stay here every year for our mountain getaway.
Our stay in Ed’s cabin was perfect - exactly what we were looking for. Something rustic, extremely convenient to Boone (10min), feeling of being out of town, and very quiet evenings on the porch. Thanks for sharing your mini treasure with us!
We absolutely LOVED our stay! Kids and pups had room to roam, felt like we were out in the middle of nowhere while still close to what we needed. We saw deer every morning and even enjoyed a hike to the falls with the best guide ever, Oreo! Already have next year booked!
Quiet, peaceful, a respite from the busyness of life. Primitive, historical cabin yet has everything one needs. Short hike to waterfall and creek, pastures, great place for dogs and kids to play and explore.
Quiet and secluded, yet 10 minutes from downtown Boone. Basic amenities, no internet, but had mostly 5g through t-mobile. I wouldnr recommend a low profile coupe or sedan, the rocky drive near the cabin would probably be a bit of a challenge
A beautiful spot with so much history- the photos do not do this amazing property justice!
Our family was honored to stay in this 120 year old cabin on this amazing homestead and be a tiny part of its history. Absolutely great location, lovely short walk to the waterfall, it was so relaxing and stepping back in time to the basics. We loved our time and can't wait to come back!
This was our third stay here and is our go to place for weekend visits to Boone ans APP. Love the cozy cabin and the dogs love running in the big front yard.
This was a nice relaxing place to stay. It was peaceful and we really enjoyed watching the deer while rocking on the front porch.

About the host
Hosted by Ed Miller
In 2010 Becca and I were able to take our two boys, Russell (8yrs) and Joseph(6yrs) and move back 'home' to Boone. We wanted our boys to grow up in a rural area where they could grow and explore. This property is full of history and memories that we wanted to share with our guests.
Why they chose this property
This property was sold in 1957 by Ed's Grandfather to a school teacher in Florida for a price 'no one would take'. 53 yrs later Ed and Becca were able to buy the property back and turn in to weekend/short term rentals. The property is nestled in 200 acres of family farmland. With a creek, waterfalls, and plenty area to just roam, it is a great place to just get away. The original Cabin was made from the same logs that came from the cabin Ed's dad was born in in 1924. It is a cozy place where you can just relax.
We know that family often includes the four legged kind. Our cabin has 100% rock or hardwood floors. We welcome dogs so they can too explore and see what country living is about. We are a working farm so if your dog likes to chase cattle, chickens, or other farm animals, you will need to bring a leash...
The Cabin is just 10 minutes from Boone and 20 minutes from Blowing Rock., so you are also close to the many activities the high county has to offer.
Visiting Spring,Summer, and Fall Elk Knob State Park for hiking, the New River for Tubing/ Canoe/ Kayak are just 15 minutes away. Grand father Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Zip lining, and Parkway are only 25 minutes away.
Winter we have three ski slopes that await between 20 and 40 minutes away as well as several places to sled and tube.
What makes this property unique
The trails will lead you into the woods where you find a creek that will sooth you body and mind. The creek offers many opportunities for both young and old. With a waterfall, places for children to explore, and space for adults to reflect and relax. From the front porch you can look over the valley of Howard's creek while watching the sun rise. This is a quiet retreat where many folks have come to rest and relax. The Cabin welcomes couples and families who want to just "Un-Plug"
