Great secluded spot for a family getaway. Convenient to Burlington, Stowe, and other nearby sites. Lew was a responsive and knowledgeable host and cottage had all we needed for a comfortable stay.

They were a very nice family with two well behaved boys. They arrived and departed on time and treated the cottage and surroundings with respect. They genuinely appreciated the cottage and this part of Vermont. I would gladly have them return in the future.
The cottage site was very peaceful and rustic and close by to Barre and Montpelier and ski areas. The cabin itself was very well maintained with everything needed to enjoy a restful stay.
We enjoyed our stay at Twin Ponds. The secluded cottage was peaceful and the fishing was good. Lew was a great host.

Twin ponds is a tranquil getaway.
Listening to the birds and pond frogs is so relaxing. The cabin is so comfy.
And you could not ask for a better host.
We always love coming to Vermont and staying at twin ponds.
This is an amazing property in Brookfield Vt. The property is as advertised. Very well equipped cottage on a large pond with lots of fish, two boats and other wildlife. A perfect get away!
We had a wonderful stay at Lew's Twin Ponds Cottage! The location was secluded and very quiet, and the cottage was roomy, comfortable, and well equipped. We had a great view of the lake and the fall colors were magnificent. Although the cottage was isolated, Randolph and Williamstown were quick drives away for essentials - on scenic Vermont roads! We heartily recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Twin Ponds. With a well stocked, cozy cottage, evening fires by the water, and daily kayaking, we steeped ourselves in nature while enjoying the comforts of home. There's a bit of a hill down to the ponds but the exercise of walking up a couple of times a day was good for us and didn't deter us.
It was quiet and had a fabulous view of two ponds, thus the name. The drive way is a little tricky but once you drive in just go slow and back in your car for an easy drive out when you leave. Lew was thoughtful and kind as the owner.
Well thought out for everything one might need - lovely kitchen and cottage - the pond and woods were beautiful and quiet - you are the only cottage on the Twin Ponds. Terrific. We will be back.
We had a great time in vermont. This house is centrally located to see many of the covered bridges and waterfalls in Vermont. We did not use the watercrafts as it was a little chilly to be on the lake in early June. The front porch was a lifesaver as you could sit outside with the bugs.

Th e ponds were nice with boats to use. The cabin could have been cleaner, needs updated!! Bedroom doors don't close. Check in was a half an hour prosses with house tour and signing forms (also 100 cash returnable deposit) check out not as long but still paper work and a house check.
All you need to pack are your food, clothing and toiletries. Lew provides anything and everything else you might possibly need, unlike many other vacation rentals. He is also a fountain of information about local places to visit. The cottage itself is charming and clean. The pond is lovely and I loved communing with the wildlife, especially the loons.
Other than being a little bit afraid to venture out after dark because of bear warnings and not swimming because of the risk of leeches, I couldn't have asked for a better week away. Thank you, Lew.

One disappointment
The pictures showed a fireplace.
The amenities showed a fireplace BUT the fireplace did not work.. Each year we look forward to vacationing in cooler weather and enjoying fireplace. That is one requirement that always depends on whether we rent a place. Very disappointed to be misled.
Outstanding warm water fishing. Largemouth bass and chain pickerel both in good numbers & size. Very private and quiet at the cottage, on the ponds, and on nice long walks.
Family of 4 (kids 13 and 14) had a great stay of 8 days. Whether fishing in the pond, hiking (we hiked Mt. Abraham and Mt. Mansfield), trail running (several options), touring (maple syrup, cheese farms, natural scenery) we had a great time. The house itself is quite isolated, which we wanted but may not be for everyone. It is also a little old, but charming. 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a laundry really helped.
If your truly looking to get away this is the place. Most of the the sound you will hear are nature. No cars, voices just peace. The ponds are beautiful and fishing not bad.
Enjoyed our stay but house quality not quite as imagined.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Twin Ponds. We stayed 39 nights, from Labor Day until mid-October. The grounds, the pond and the local environment are all extremely beautiful. It’s an older summer house with an addition of a newer kitchen and bathroom. It has good insulation and heating. We could walk down to the pond for eating, reading, and sunbathing in total privacy. There is a rowboat which we used. We swam several times.
Due to some problems with the house, we felt it was somewhat overpriced.
Some examples:
-Instead of standard locking knobs, the bedroom doors have lightweight steel latches that make noise when lifted. Because of space needs, one of bathroom doors is a slatted, bi-fold door that doesn’t afford much privacy. These things were problems when we had overnight guests.
-The pump system for the house is noisy. Whenever it kicks on, the system can easily be heard in the house. This noise bothered me, but not my wife.
-The shower and bath in the larger bathroom do not drain properly. (The owner said he would address this problem, as we mentioned when we left.)
This all said, Lew was very helpful and a gracious host. He was responsive to any questions and kept us informed of local activities that we might be interested in.
To summarize, we found the area to be stunningly beautiful but we found that the quality of the house did not justify what we were charged. The price may vary with the season, we don't know.
We found this place to be spectacular! This is a slice of peace and quiet without giving up giving up too many amenities. The only thing you need is food. The place is fantastic and very comfortable. Lew has thought of everything to ensure it stays that way. The grounds are very well kept and you literally have access to the twin ponds with nobody else around. It is peace and quiet and relaxing. You, your family, and nature. I would definitely recommend this for a short or a long stay.
The cabin is very nice and has everything.
Lew is a great host

About the host
Hosted by Lew Stowell
I grew up in Chester, VT and graduated from Norwich University. I retired from the Vermont National Guard, the State of Vermont (Department of Public Safety, Emergency Management Division and now am just operating the family Christmas tree farm and hosting the cottage. I live about 1/2 mile by Twin Pond Road from the cottage. I try to be available when needed but will let you enjoy your vacation without interruption.
Why they chose this property
My father always wanted a trout pond. He cut wild Christmas trees on the property for many years and purchased the property for the family in 1958. In 1961 the family purchased the adjoining property which now has most of the Christmas tree fields. It turned out that Twin Ponds has a mix of fish that are not compatible with trout. The State of Vermont in the 1950s and 60s took possession of several ponds in the area that were 20 acres or more and killed all of the fish in those ponds. They stocked them with trout and created access for the public to fish. Twin ponds has the traditional mix of fish. The Chain Pickerel and Large Mouth Bass eat small trout if they enter the ponds by either of the two brooks. Occasionally a larger surviving trout is caught. However the mix of fish (Large Mouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Perch and catfish) is desirable because at least one of the four main species are likely to bite sometime most days. Brookfield was primarily a farming community and while it still has farms, now mostly it is residential country properties with significant acreage. Twin Pond Road is a class three town maintained gravel road on both ends but the middle portion is class four, minimally maintained by the town. The West end connecting the cottage is class three and is well maintained. The cottage is set off from the town road to provide seclusion but still have easy access to Twin Pond Road. Because of the portion in the middle, there is not as much through traffic which makes the road safer for hiking.
What makes this property unique
One of the most popular areas of the cottage is the screened-in porch which is approximately 24 x 12 feet. There is a glider with new deep cushions and several chairs and a table so that your family can gather for meals, plug into power for extended laptop/tablet use, enjoy the view of the woods, lawns and ponds or just take a nap. The cottage is just high enough above the ponds to have a nice breeze but only a short walk from the beach and boats (a pedal boat and a 12 foot row boat). The porch is also the home of Badminton, Croquet, big tubes, life vests, horseshoes and other outdoor fun items. Recently we have added a Rainy Day Room in the walk out basement that has a Foosball table, card table and four chairs with an assortment of games to make up for the fact that is raining outside. You are encouraged to also bring your favorite games.
