This property was a great place to stay for our family vacation. Since there were 5 adults and a dog, we had plenty of room to spread out and relax. We loved going out back and just take in the view. It was a lovely place.
Wonderful, comfortable, and spacious house with beautiful view
We had a perfect stay here. The view off the huge back porch was beautiful all the time, and the house was really great for all of us. Comfortable beds, very clean, and a fully stocked kitchen made it a great place to hang and rest when we weren't out on the beach. Highly recommended!
My family and I loved our stay at Bill’s home. It was such a peaceful place. We really enjoyed the kayaks and just relaxing on the back porch. The home is fully stocked with everything you could need. I would definitely go back.
This house and location exceeded our expectations on every level. We will be going back as soon as our schedules will allow. The host is the best I have ever worked with. Enjoy!
The setting for the house overlooking the marsh is spectacular. We spent hours on the large rear porch listening to the many birds, egrets and other life in the marsh. We were even visited by a flock of peacocks in the area. The house was just as advertised and equipped with everything you need. We spent a month at the location and enjoyed every minute of it.
Check in was easy and communication with the owner was easy, pleasant and very helpful.
This is a beautiful, and unique property. Sitting in the rockers on the large porch you look out at the marsh which is amazing ! It is always changing and always beautiful, we spent hours sitting watching the marsh, the birds and boats on the river.
The house was very clean, comfortable, with a huge kitchen. The master bedroom is large with outstanding views!
We enjoyed our stay!

This place is great! So happy we vacationed here.
Wonderful property central to many fun locations. We visited the less commercialized Brunswick Islands beaches as well as action packed Myrtle Beach, all within a reasonable drive. We had delicious meals at 5 different restaurants and bought some shrimp to boil at Holden's just down the road from the house. After exploring the surrounding area, we couldn't wait to get back to the peaceful deck and beautiful view. Great for watching birds and wildlife. It was so nice just to relax and be lazy. Enjoyed the hot tub and read a couple books from the well stocked bookshelves. Loved the spacious layout and family friendly touches of the house. Our dog loved it too, and we plan to come back for another relaxing vacation.

Relaxing family trip to NC!
Thanks to Bill & neighbor Ed for providing us a great home for our family vacation! House was super clean and stocked with all the basic necessities you need on the first day. The night sky and all the sounds of nature while sitting on the back porch was one of my favorite things to do! We didn't turn the TV on once all week...we played games, read 2 books and did puzzles (we left one for the house), enjoyed the beautiful local beaches and donut shop! Thanks for a wonderful trip in your home!!

We're delighted you had a good stay at our place on the Shallotte, even with noise from the house construction across the way interrupting the peace.
Come again when you can.

The back porch itself is just perfect. The swing, the rocking chairs, the sights, sounds and hot tub. This was our favorite spot in the whole house. Large, open kitchen, dining and living area. The pictures don't do the house justice. It is larger than it seems and the view is better in person. Clean, private, safe area, and very pet friendly place. The host is very nice as well! He does charge an additional fee for linens, but that wasn't a problem for us at all. We just brought our own. Less than 15 minutes to the beach and only a few minutes to a grocery store. We would definitely like to stay here again. A good cup of coffee every morning on that back porch is just perfect. Wishing I was still in that rocking chair! Thank you so much for a great getaway!
A beautiful, roomy house; a nice hot tub; spectacular acres and acres of marsh view; a visit from a wood stork--a threatened species; a fifteen-minute drive to spectacular Sunset Beach.
This is a wonderful location with proximity to several different beaches, tourist attractions, restaurants, grocery stores. The house has a great porch overlooking the marsh. Watching the birds fishing in the marsh was a favorite part of our vacation!!
We enjoyed our stay, especially since the house is pet friendly. Great location and a quick drive to a few different area beaches. Plenty of space for our family and we loved spending time on the porch.
This is a beautiful house in a nice secluded setting. The owner was very responsive. A lot of great places to eat within 10-20 minutes. Because this house is sitting on the marsh, there is a musty smell throughout the home. Probably need dehumidifiers. And, the master bedroom needs a curtain or blinds on the patio door. Even tho this house sits in a pretty secluded area, there is no privacy in the master from the back yard and deck. People come to do yard work and service the hot tub on the deck.

We are adding curtains to provide privacy for the master bedroom. We are also working on improving the ventilation in the attic and ways to dehumidify areas of the house that get musty when air is not circulating. In our experience running A/C reduces indoor humidity and mustiness.
We were looking for a place with easy access to the area beaches but didn't want to be amongst the rest of the visitors. This was perfect. With a beautiful view across a tranquil marsh, this house is within easy driving distance of Southport and the various beaches in the area. Bill is very responsive to questions and the house is very comfortable. Our dogs loved watching the birds and we'd love to visit again!
We had an amazing, relaxing, time in Shallotte and the surrounding area. The marsh view is absolutely beautiful, and so tranquil. Even in the rain, it was enjoyable to sit back and watch the tide come in and out and the wildlife. The house is very spacious and comfortable, and in fairly close proximity to multiple beaches. A wonderful getaway!
The quiet neighborhood and beautiful marsh makes this place an ideal refuge and retreat. We enjoyed our stay and we’re glad to be able to take our Lab pup with us.
Location was just what we were looking for, quiet with a lovely porch overlooking a beautiful tidal marsh. The house was open and spacious just as described. We would visit again.
I truly do not know where to start when talking about Bill's beautiful home. We were working and living from the house immediately felt like home away from home. The wrap around porch provided many days and night watching the tide coming in and out of the inlet waters and the many herons. The oceans nearby are as peaceful and beautiful as the inlet itself. I am so grateful to know about Shallotte, and can't wait to book again in the future.

About the host
Hosted by Bill McNeil
I have lived in North Carolina for 50 years, currently in Greensboro, after growing up in upstate New York and going to college in Pennsylvania, Chicago and UNC-Chapel Hill.
Why they chose this property
Our home offers a great place to retreat, connect with nature, get in touch with the ebb and flow of tides in the marsh. It is away from the congested beaches, yet close enough to enjoy them. For golfers, over 30 Myrtle Beach and Brunswick County courses are within 30 miles.
What makes this property unique
After looking at beach property along the entire NC coast, we found this river-view gem at the end of a sandy path, with what some have called a million dollar view.
