Ryan’s is very dog friendly, the location is convenient to downtown and to the hiking we wanted to do, the rental was clean, and easy to find. We enjoyed the back deck every evening.
Such a great place to stay at, very accommodating with the dogs, clean apartment, beds were hotel clean. Great locations minutes away from the park, truly great place to stay at while enjoying Acadia.

We are so happy to hear that your stay was a happy one. It was so great to meet and chat with you. The Island is a magical place to be. Thank you so much for the lovely review. Marilyn & Steve
This rental is in a great location if you are visiting Acadia National Park. As a family of (mostly) introverts this location was SUPERIOR to stay vs in Bar Harbor or closer to the villiage.Marilyn and Steve were great hosts and communicatiln was excellent. The dog friendly atmosphere was refreshing. If you are heading to MDI for some solitude in nature and a close ride to Acadia, this place is for you!
Beautiful property. Close to everything you want to do! This is probably the best place to stay to get you all over Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor. Best time!!!

Fun Stay
Very dog friendly. Quiet and convenient location. Spacious. Not fancy at all and could use some updating but that should be expected based on the price (less expensive than similar sized rentals in Bar Harbor). Grounds and living area were clean.

Hi, if you come back next year, look at www.ryanestaterentals.com which is our website and choose the Mountain View. New floor, tongue in groove knotty pine interior, bigger kitchen, amazing view 15 Miles into Acadia National Park. Ask about discount . Glad you had a good stay. Thanks for the review.
Me and my 3 dogs stayed and had an amazing time. The location is great for excursions into the park to hike or drive around as well as easy access into Bar Harbor. The only difference between the online listing and the cabin was the carpet appears to be recently replaced with laminate flooring that made it even easier to clean up after the dogs. If you want a spa like experience, keep looking, but if you are serious about getting into and out of the park to explore with a clean, safe and dog friendly base camp to return to, consider this property.
Convenient location within a 15 minute drive of most of the main sights and a few minutes walk to an entrance to the carriage roads. Basic, no frills accommodation, but our family of five plus one dog fit comfortably. The apartment is a bit more spacious than we were expecting from the pictures. Deck is a nice size with a picnic table plus four chairs. Great stargazing at night! The biggest disappointment was the bbq. It is included in the listing, but the only one we saw was not clean and had no cooking utensils. Kitchen could also be a bit better stocked- more cutlery would be helpful, the toaster barely toasts, and some basic seasonings (even just salt) would have been appreciated. Laundry is 1 per wash and dry so you may want to bring some quarters.

Thanks for the nice review. We are always here to help and have extra toasters and I will check on the cutlery & BBQ. It always helps me to know what is going on. Glad you all and the doggie had a fun vacation.
We stayed at the carriage house and it was comfortable for my 2 teen boys, us and our dog. The woods around the house were great, nice and private and quiet. We were able to grill out on the deck. And see amazing stars at night. The location is perfect short ride to Bar Harbor or a walk around Eagle lake. As well as easy access to most of MDI. The dog yard was awesome and my small dog did well on the trip. The place was clean especially for a dog friendly venue, no odor at all. The hosts were available when needed and were friendly when we sought them out. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the lack of a dishwasher which was my own fault for not noticing it wasn’t listed in the listing. I was also a little worried not having smoke detectors. Parking was easy. I have recommended this place to my nature and dog loving friends 😃

Glad you enjoyed your stay. The smoke detectors are now wired in. We were in the process of getting the new ones. We only have five hours a week to get any work done, as we are full every week. Thanks for recommending us to all your dog, kid and nature loving friends.

Stay in Bar Harbor
The location was great and it was clean. The unit itself was several steps over a workshop.
The roof pitch restriction easy access to much of the unit and the floor walking into the kitchenette wasn’t level and required a small step up that everyone staying tripped or stubbed their toe on.
Access to the back deck was through the bathroom and some of the sleeping areas were mattresses on the floor. Parking was tight for two vehicles. The view from the unit isn’t what was pictured, it overlooked a roof.
The set-up is more suitable for a short stay with a few people in our opinion but again, in close proximity to the park.

Hi Cheryl, Glad it was clean. Sorry your only looked out of one window, because the kitchen, bathroom and 2nd bedroom all face into the woods of Acadia national Park. And you forgot to mention the skylight that shows blue skies and stars at night. The other view is our roof, as we live right here so we can make sure everything is clean. The workshop is essential because Bar Harbor is so busy that no one comes to assist if you don't have a team like we have to come in and help. The maintenance men come only one week day and on the turnover day. They drive 1 1/2 hours to get here to work. The mattress on the brand new floor is what we call the loft, and we kept it low so no one would bump their head. It is not listed as a full bedroom. You would probably do better renting a brand new house on your next stay and not a "Carriage House". I have no idea how many people you had staying here. Parking is tight because we are on a hill and built as much parking as we could. We are actually inside Acadia national Park. My book listed you as having three adults. But... thanks for being here, anyway. We appreciate your business...
Great Location, Perfect Size, Not Great for Senior Dog
The location is minutes from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor! There is plenty of parking and the property is quiet. The apartment was a very good size with adequate kitchen and bathroom amenities. The beds were comfortable and the the bedding was clean. There were a couple of downsides. First of all, and most importantly, the dog yard is communal to the property. We were expecting it to be more private. Also, the apartment is up two flights of stairs, which was a little tricky for our senior dog. It was not easy for her to get in and out. Otherwise, this was a great place for our family and dog, the floors are hard, so they're easy to clean if there's an accident and you don't have to worry about previous guests' dog accidents. The only other complaint is the smell of moth balls. It was extremely pervasive and after 3 weeks I can still smell it on some of our belongings that we aren't able to launder. Overall, we had a very good trip and enjoyed our stay.

Glad you found us clean and comfortable. Always tell your landlord about a smell like mothballs when you are there. We live right next door and would have gotten them out of the downstairs storage area. We are in the country and the moth balls keep mice out of the building without us have to hurt them. Don’t recall if you asked me about the stairs, but most folks do ask if they have a senior dog that has trouble walking stairs. We always tell how many stairs if someone asks. I hope the large grassy fenced yard was ok for your dog. I know it wasn’t crowded, as we only have four rentals on our seven acres. Anyway, thanks for letting me know about the moth balls. The floors and rug were brand new this year, so you certainly didn’t have to worry about anyone’s mess in there. Thanks for the review. We have the Summer House with its own dog yard if you decide to return. It is all ground floor. I am on finding those moth balls and making sure they don’t smell anymore.
Excellent location, comfortable, great for pets!!!
This property is located centrally on Mount Desert Island just minutes to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park entrance, and points north (Elsworth). The carriage house apartment is located on the second floor, and has a terrific private deck overlooking the woods. There are two well appointed bedrooms and plenty of room to spread out. The kitchen has all you need to make yourself at home. The dog run was very convenient and lots of fun for the dogs, and was clean and well maintained (guests must pick up after their pets.) There are laundry machines available on the property, and plenty of parking. Our only complaint was the carpeting in the apartment, we felt it needed deep cleaning or replacement.
Overall we had a wonderful time in Bar Harbor, and would recommend this property to anyone who wants a good home base and wishes to spend some time outdoors in Maine!

Hi David... The carpets get a lot of use during the Summer, and even though we vacuum, there is not any time to wash between guests, as we are full, and it would be wet to the folks moving in. We don't want to us any chemical cleaner because we have doggie feet that need to stay safe. So... at the end of the season, they are scrubbed. We are trying our best to keep up with everything. So happy you had a great stay. We do have an amazing location and really love having guests who bring their dogs! Thanks so much for choosing us!
Perfect getaway to head to the park and do some exploring. Especially accommodating for our fur children! They had a blast.

Overall...a very nice stay. Quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor but close enough to get there easily. Also - a great location to get to the park, especially if you like to ride bikes as the carriage trails are close by. Definitely fit 7 guests comfortably. Wonderful and safe place for pets, as illustrated by the fenced in dog yard which was a special treat. Ample parking. Hosts are very responsive and accommodating. My only (small) criticisms would be the size of the shower and the A/C unit. To be fair - it was almost in the 90s there which seems to be generally uncommon. When the temps dropped - it was quite nice with the windows open! Finally, some of the best stars I ever saw were witnessed from the back deck!
Loved our stay at The Carriage House apartment. The owners are so accommodating and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Great place for our 3 dogs, loved that we were able to access the carriage trails in Acadia right from the property. One of the best rental experiences we have had, highly recommend them!!

Short version:
Nice place, convenient location.
Long version:
Close to Bar Harbor and Acadia yet private. Near the top of Somes Sound so one can get anywhere on the island easily. The owners are usually available on the property to address any issues you may have and are interesting, kind, and even loved our vocal Yorkies (and their dogs were gracious hosts to our dogs too).
We had our tandems in tow (bicycle and kayak) and had no trouble with parking our small trailer.
The Carriage house is roomy, clean, and with enough modern niceties (like AC and Internet) to make your stay relaxing, comfortable, and enjoyable.
Without question, we will book here the next time we head to Acadia.

Everything was great, would stay there again. The only “issue” was that I didn’t realize I was renting a second floor apartment. A little rough on my 12 year old dog but she had a great time there anyway.

Marvelous Place to Stay
This was our third summer (plus one autumn) staying with the Ryans. They are friendly, generous, and gracious hosts..always going out of their way to make sure we had whatever we might need.
In addition, they are highly accommodating to our canine companion. and all dogs, big and small.
The accommodations (we stayed in 2 of their rentals) are just great, outfitted with everything for our stay. They are very clean and well maintained. Washers and dryers are available and come in very handy.
The setting is terrific and you are literally surrounded by park and forest. It's like having a tree house!
We love that you can walk a short distance and be right in Acadia National Park--no cars, no parking issues.
Of course, you are an easy drive to downtown
Bar Harbor with all that it has to offer. (You can visit the Ryans' store on Main Street: Jekyll and Hyde). You are also within easy distance to neighboring towns on Mount Desert Island such as Southwest Harbor.
All in all, the Ryan Estate is just a great place to stay and we recommend it without any hesitation!! You will have the best time!!

One of our favorite spots on Mt. Desert Island
This is a beautiful sunlit apartment near the Eagle Lake entrance to Acadia National Park. The hosts were extremely nice, welcoming, and friendly; the apartment is freshly renovated and clean, with a well-equipped kitchenette. Dog and family friendly, with a large enclosed outdoor space for pets. We've stayed here many times and plan on coming back!

Why they chose this property
The Ryan Estate is 2 1/2 miles from downtown Bar Harbor (which is on Frenchman's Bay) and 1 mile from beautiful Eagle Lake. We have no close neighbors and own our 7 pristine acres actually inside Acadia National Park. The night skies are sparkling with millions of stars! You may see large rabbits that live nearby, deer that wander through and eagles flying overhead. Adorable chipmunks run across the parking area and birds are in the trees! Enjoy Maine without the crowds.
What makes this property unique
Surrounded by the varied trees of Acadia National Park, you can walk down the driveway and you are on the hiking and biking trails. Delicious, pure water from our 600' deep well pours out of your tap. No need to buy bottled when you stay with us! Large Dog play area, grass, gated and fenced. Never sprayed! We do love doggies! There are stairs on leading up to the Carriage House. Please inquire about our other properties if you need a place with no stairs. Our laundry machines are only $1 per load. We LOVE dogs!!
