Stonegable: Perfect couples retreat;quiet, private, modern, close to everything!

Stonegable is a modern farmhouse nestled among pines and 150 acres of walking trails located just outside of Empire Village (2 miles) right in the middle of Leelanau farm country. You'll find yourself surrounded by cherry and apple orchards, hops farms and fields of sweet smelling hay. Fresh eggs can be purchased just down the driveway. Stonegable has a new generator (2023) for storms. Runs everything but stove and microwave ( grill on site) . So you will have water, lights, shot water heater for howers, refrigerator. and heat in the event of a storm. that results in loss of power. Very few rental properties in Empire or northern Michigan have a generator back up plan which can save a vacation.

The home sports a gallery of original oil paintings of the property by a local artist which are all available for purchase. It’s a perfect property for a couples retreat , artists, writers, photographers,conservationists, bird watchers, nature lovers,and astronomers.

Unplug at Stone Gable with the quiet of crickets and the brilliance of stars. Leave the technology behind and enter into the past of simpler times before television and internet (Great Wifi available for those that need to work). You will experience a lovely farm house appointed with beautiful fresh duvets and a well stocked kitchen. The trees provide lots of cool shade and privacy. There is a fire pit for bonfires, a grill, and a deck off the kitchen for relaxing outside. The out buildings are the perfect setting for Plein Air painters and those that love the serenity of a real working farm.

Lake Michigan is also just just two miles away. A basketball court, beach volley ball, playground, and Empire public beach are available for guests enjoyment. Area is perfect for hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, kayaking or just lying on the beach. There are boat launches nearby for both Lake Michigan and South Bar Lake. Only 8 miles to Glen Arbor and 25 minutes to Traverse City.

Stonegable invites you to be its guest. Come enjoy a week unplugged and connecting with each other in nature while enjoying the farm house’s "Modern Country" decor and original art.

Beautiful spot

House is clean, attractive, and comfortable for two people. It’s located right in the heart of Sleeping Bear area, super convenient to hikes, beaches, bike rides. We had a lovely stay.

Third time still a charm

We greatly enjoyed our third stay at Stonegable. It offers peace and privacy with easy access to the beaches, Glen Arbor and good hiking.

Farm and beach oasis

Great location close to central Sleeping Bear beaches, yet tranquil amidst vast farm fields. Cozy cottage great for a couple with privacy on large farmland property. Sunset dinners on the field were a memorable experience.

Great place to unwind

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Stonegable. The house was very comfortable and we had great weather so we could leave the windows open and get some fresh air. The deck had a great view of the fields surrounding the property. We ventured out on the property to some walking paths up the hill in the back. Great workout;) The location was perfect to drive into town Empire (check out Tiffany's for some nummy ice cream) or Glen Arbor (great little grocery store and a few good restaurants as well). It is also located near several great beaches. Overall, we had a great week relaxing and checking out the area around Sleeping Bear dunes.

Heavenly escape!

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Stonegable! It was comfortable, immaculate, and had everything we needed, The property is a perfect antidote to the tourist crowds in Glen Arbor and Empire. We could buzz into either town, or any of our favorite beaches easily, and escape back to total serenity and privacy when we’d had enough. And our dog, Stella, will probably sleep for a week after her adventures watching over all that property! Can’t wait to go back!!

Peaceful and Relaxing in the Country

This was our 3rd year staying at Stonegable. My husband and I love the peacefulness of quiet country living, and the closeness of beautiful Lake Michigan. It is the best of both worlds. Maureen as always is extremely helpful and quick to respond to any questions or concerns. We hope to come back next year.

Quiet, cozy getaway

We returned to Stonegable for a second year to enjoy the peace and quiet, and amid the pandemic, considerable isolation. The renovated farmhouse was again clean and well-stocked. Our regret is that we didn't book two weeks. If you choose to stay at Stonegable, be sure to set aside a clear night to lie in the yard and admire the Milky Way.

up north getaway

Best of both worlds with this rental! A beautifully restored and modern farmhouse in the country! Easy to access to Glen arbor/beaches/food/shopping but also lovely to get away from it all on the back deck with many walking trails right there. We were always happy to return home, reading and looking out on the beautiful fields. Great wifi, SUPER clean and equipped with anything you might need. Maureen made things easy and was instantly available for directions, ideas etc. Check in and out was so easy. Would return in a heartbeat. Thank you!

Peaceful getaway

We loved our stay at Stonegable. The property is beautiful with tons of wildflowers and wildlife (Deer, sandhill cranes, turkeys) and an expansive farmland view. The sky view is expansive too, so it’s great for looking at the stars. (Or in our case, watching the full moon rise over the trees). The house had a modern, farmhouse vibe with beautiful art, and was very clean!!! The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable, making for a great night sleep. The house is very well stocked with toiletries, paper goods, basic first aid kit, sanitizer, bath, beach and kitchen towels. The pans and knives are in good shape. The kitchen had everything I needed (except I didn’t see a 9x13 casserole dish/brownie pan, but I had brought my own). I highly recommend Stonegable and look forward to returning to this unique property again!

Can’t wait to come back

We had high hopes from our first communication with Maureen when she shared that the bed linens and duvet were fresh and the bed protected from bugs. Stonegable delivered. The cottage is a gem located just a few minutes from Sleeping Bear Dunes NP and a 30-minute drive to Traverse City. The giant maples and pines surrounding the cottage added to our sense of privacy. We were surprised by the attached garage we could pull our car into and delighted by the lovely breeze we enjoyed when we opened the first floor windows. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook several meals. We enjoyed the fire pit in just moments thanks to the supply of fire starters and very dry wood. We’re not sure how they managed to make an older home feel so fresh and cozy. We would have extended our stay if it wasn’t already booked.

Peaceful and excellent location

This spot was new to us this year as our usual go-to in Emmet County was booked. It is not so easy to find a place that meets our standards, is dog-friendly, and in budget. This was a home run! I love this property! My dog could run free without worry about neighbors, we had lots of options for outdoor seating. I loved the smell of the garage! It reminded me of my grandparents house when I was a kid. Maureen is a wonderful hostess. She stopped over to make sure everything was going well for us and gave us a little history on the home. The home is very comfortable. We appreciated the a/c upstairs. The location is wonderful. Easy access to all the fun activities nearby. We took daily walks on the property trails which was one of the highlights of our day. We will be back. Definitely 5 stars!

Wonderful location

This was our second stay at the Stonegable. The place is perfectly located, close to everything in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. The small house is cute and clean; there is a patch of woods directly behind it for easy hiking / dog walks. Everything is provided: the grill, all sorts of beach stuff, towels, soaps, bedding, etc. The setting is idyllic; no loud neighbors, no fast cars. A lovely porch under a large pine tree is perfect for a morning coffee. Maureen is responsive and helpful, and her artwork is lovely. We had bad luck in that the thinderstorms that came through the area knocked out our electricity on Tuesday evening and with it, water. We left for a day trip on Wednesday, but power was not restored by Thursday (they promised to restore it by Friday, then Saturday!). Maureen brought us a couple of water buckets and a bottle of drinking water, which was much appreciated, and we used the grill to cook. We could have managed without electricity but not without water for toilets and shower and dishwashing, so we were forced to cut our trip short and left Thursday morning. Maybe investing in a back-up generator might be a good idea, if possible? But rotten luck aside, we really loved our stay, just as we did last time, and were so sad to leave. Such a beautiful area, such a lovely place! Thanks for having us!

A week at Sleeping Bear Dunes

Our vacation centered around hiking at Sleeping Bear Dunes. The quaint farm house was the perfect spot. Absolute privacy on the quiet farm, but only a short drive to the National Shoreline. We were also only 30 minutes from Traverse City. Also close to the charming small towns of Empire and Glen Arbor. Stonegable was fully stocked with every to make us feel at home.

Idyllic Getaway

The property was in an ideal setting and location to visit the sites of the Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore Park. Nice and serene location just outside of Empire. Enjoyed watching the crows come back at nite to roost in the woods behind the house and seeing the deer come out to graze. Morning coffee on the deck was very pleasant. It was an easy drive to the other quaint towns (Glen Arbor, Leland, Arcadia) and other attractions. Stonegable was very comfortable and clean with an abundance of amenities. Kitchen was well stocked with the necessary cooking supplies. The outdoor gas grill was a nice addition for preparing the evening meals. Maureen was a great host. She communicated with us and insured our stay went well. We would highly recommend this rental to our family and friends and are looking forward to renting it in the future.

Very Quiet and Pretty

We enjoyed the quiet of this well-cared for little house. We loved spending time in the towns along M-22 and at the Sleeping Bear Dunes. And actually being able to see the stars in a dark night sky was a big bonus. Thanks so much!

Such a special property!

We loved our second time staying at the house in Empire. The setting is gorgeous and the location feels remote without actually being too far from so many fun towns and activities. This place is a gem, and Maureen is a wonderful host.

Incredible property in the heart of Leelanau county

What a special place! We just came home from a week here and were so sad to leave. We’ve been visiting the Empire area for several years now and love all that there is to experience. This property is in a great location to easily access town, Sleeping Bear, Glen Lake and Glen Arbor, Leelanau Peninsula, Traverse City and more. The house is very cute, extremely clean and has everything you need. We had to work a few days while here and the internet worked well. The property is so incredible. Just absolutely gorgeous and so fun to explore. We loved the view on the deck for coffee in the mornings, fires in the fire pit at night and walking through the 150 acres of trails. It was such a great place for our dog. Maureen was very responsive and easy to work with and we even took one of her beautiful paintings home! We will definitely be renting here again.

Charming property - great location

Unique quiet country location with scenic views only a short distance from Empire, Glen Haven, Glen Arbor and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Less than 10 minutes to Empire Bluffs trail where you can watch spectacular sunsets! The view from Stonegable’s deck of the surrounding fields is peaceful. With over a 100 acres to roam it’s indeed a special property.
