After repairing damage caused by Hurricane Helen, we are open again and receiving guests! The road is better than ever and we are excited to welcome guests again!

Come to our cabin on six acres of peace and quiet where your stress will fade away the minute you walk through the door.

We have over 100 five star reviews. 20 min from Boone and App State, 30 from Blowing Rock! Check out the photos and reviews!

Cabin is ranch - all on one level!

Comfy, 2000 sq ft cabin Sleeps 6-7: large kitchen, dining and great room. Awesome for families. We have free DSL internet and cable TV !!! Lovely cabin with privacy.

Our home has a warm, comfortable, open feeling with plenty of room for cooking, dining, playing games, watching DVDs, reading and relaxing. Several gathering areas allow multiple activities to be going on at once.

There is a covered front porch that a dining patio table and chairs - perfect for rainy days. There is a second dining table and chairs on the large back deck which overlooks the valley and mountains.

Easy access to many of the areas best attractions, including Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, Tweetsie Railroad, Appalachian State, the Blue Ridge Parkway, gem mining, canoeing in the New River, biking, fishing etc

Like most rental places we have external security cameras to protect our home and for the safety of our guests.

Our family loved staying here! Great house, close enough to Boone and Blowing Rock to run over and enjoy. And plenty to enjoy at the house. Games, gorgeous deck. A great time to relax!

Great stay close to App State!

My family all came up to help to move a student to App State, and we picked this cabin because it was one level. The cabin was great, no neighbors around, beautiful landscaping, and extremely peaceful. Great communication with host was a plus. Highly recommend.

Beautiful mountain oasis!

We had such a great family trip to John’s mountain oasis. It was so quiet and peaceful - exactly what we needed. The house was stocked with everything we needed for our stay. Can’t say enough nice things about the place! Would love to come back in the future.

Lovely Property

We rented John’s place for my (now) husband and his groomsmen to stay in during our wedding weekend that was down the road, at Wanderlust Acres. They had everything they needed and commented on how beautiful the view was from the porch. If we are back in the area we would stay here again!

Great Weekend Getaway House

This house is spacious and comfortable for our family for our trip this weekend. VERY glad we got a car with 4WD as the driveway is steep and tough to navigate. The view from back patio was amazing. John did a great job with his communications for the weekend and was so helpful and available if we needed anything.

Amazing retreat

From the isolated (and fun) drive up Chipmunk Lane to the amazing view and the surrounding property to explore, we had a fantastic time. Our kids, their cousins, and our dog loved hiking through the woods around the property and evenings sitting by the fire. The house is spacious and well appointed--a big deal since we had 5 kids with us. The owners were communicative and accommodating--excellent hosts. We would happily recommend it and rent again ourselves.

Our Mountain Getaway

The property was excellent. Everything very clean. Organized well so easy to find things especially in the kitchen area. Nice and roomy . Even had Christmas tree up and cabin decorated. Hope to go back again in the future.

Cabin was off the chain, met all our expectations 5+. Amazing view, worth every penny. My kids 6 and 15 had a very good time. John is very organized and helpful with things to do around the area, very good communication. Definitely we'll be back.

Excellent weekend!

My family and I had an excellent long weekend at the Highridge House. The cabin is in a great location, literally minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and really felt like a home away from home. The owner John was great to work with and very helpful throughout. The driveway was steep but level and in good shape. I've definitely driven on *MUCH* worse roads in the Boone area. We're really into birding and saw multiple species of warblers within several feet of the cabin!

Beautiful Mountain Retreat - Pet Friendly

Couldn’t ask for a better mountain rental. Property was very clean and the check in process was excellent. Communication with property owner was outstanding with quick responses! Large home with plenty of space and seating. Although I chose not to cook for our short stay the kitchen was exceptionally equipped with drawers and cabinets labeled for easy access. I would have really appreciated all the spices, cooking oils, condiments etc for our use had I made any meals. If you have a dog don’t pass this one up as our nine year old dog enjoyed spending his time too relaxing on large back deck!

20 minutes from Boone

The Highridge House was likely the cleanest and most equipped VRBO we've ever stayed in. It felt like home. John was accessible and a quick responder and made the process--from start to finish--easy and efficient. We were in the area for a fall break and an Appalachian State tour. It's an easy drive into Boone and nice to be out of the bustle (and traffic) of that area. We accessed the restaurants, stores, and amenities of Boone and then happily retreated to the Highridge House for some peace and quiet and mountain air. On a separate note, we highly recommend the Hawksnest Zipline Tour for some exhilarating family adventures when you stay at John's place.

Definitely a 5 star house and view!

I have rented many homes through VRBO and can easily say that this house was by far the best appointed and well suited rental home that I have stayed in. Not only are the views from the deck spectacular, but the serenity of the lot and the access to activities in the area are really top notch. You can tell that John and his family love their home and want to share it with others who will cherish it the same. And, equally notable, was John's graciousness. We made a last minute decision to take this trip and rent his home, and by doing so interrupted John's Italian vacation. Despite being without his laptop and the six hour time difference, John was extremely accommodating and made our visit happen. Thank you! We'll be back.

Simply outstanding!

This was our first cabin stay and we couldn't have asked for more! The serenity and beauty were exactly what we were seeking. As a host, John went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Word of advice, follow John's directions, better than GPS! We also took advantage of his recommendations on what to do in the area. The attention to detail in the cabin is outstanding. It literally took me seconds to find a pot to cook up a meal - extremely organized, labels and everything! Cleanliness was also top notch for one who notices such things. Would definitely return! PS The driveway is no joke. Having made it up successfully, I'll say its doable, but AWD would definitely be recommended.

Beautiful Retreat

Husband and I wanted to escape the Florida heat, so headed to North Carolina. After a heart-in-your-throat initial climb up the very steep and winding driveway, arrived at Highridge House. Immediately impressed with the kitchen/living/dining room open, homey feel. The view from the rear deck, the sounds of wildlife, smell of pine and rain were relaxing. We cooked every night, and this kitchen was the best stocked I have ever had at a rental property. Lots of kitchen stables (spices, syrup, other non perishables) available. We toured the WJ farmers market, drove the Parkway, spent a day in Boone and found some very cool places to eat. Attended service at a local church, and saw the frescoes of Ben Long in Holy Trinity and St. Mary's Churches. Mostly we played cards/games with our house guests, and relaxed on the deck. John was wonderful to work with, answering each inquiry promptly. And he has a great list of local attractions/restaurants to share. High recommendation for this property.

Christmas in the Clouds

There is a reason that Highridge House has all 5-star reviews! From the moment we climbed the driveway, to walking in the front door to the warm, inviting pine walls and ceiling, to the view of our own private mountain, we felt like we were "home." I cannot begin to say enough wonderful things about this property, and it's host/s. We have rented several Vrbo's in the past, but this one has exceeded them all, due to the fact that this is not "just another rental property." This is John's (& Nancy) second home that they let us "borrow" for the holidays, and made sure that we felt right at home. It was a nice change to deal with the owners, rather than a property manager, especially John's detailed check in/out list and Host Favorites, which covered everything, including tips for getting up the driveway. You can't have the view without the climb, and it was worth it! Every room was decorated for Christmas, including a large beautiful tree that was the perfect "host" for all of our gifts. The mantle was beautifully decorated with lights, garland and a large wreath; the perfect backdrop for our family photo. The spacious kitchen with the sit-around island was a dream with every cabinet labeled and organized to cook our holiday meals. The huge stone fireplace was one of our favorite places to gather, especially since the weather did not cooperate, and we weren't able to appreciate the views from the deck. It was a memorable Christmas with family; one we will cherish forever!

Wonderful Home with Excellent Views

Our family of five had a wonderful time visiting this home in the West Jefferson/Fleetwood area. We were in the area for a college tour but wanted to use the trip for a mini vacation to one of our favorite places. We visit the Boone/Blowing Rock/West Jefferson area multiple times each year to hike, explore, and dine. The home was as described and the property owner was very helpful and responsive throughout the process. The beds were cozy, the fire place was a gem, and the views were spectacular. This truly felt like someone sharing their home with us vs some of the "cold" VRBOs we've stayed at in the past. The home was convenient to West Jefferson, Boone, the Parkway, and other area treasures. Unfortunately, it was pretty cold and windy during our visit and we didn't get out as much as we had hoped, but the warm fire and hot cups of coffee/hot chocolate kept everyone happy. Internet service was also surprisingly good given how remote you feel up on the mountain. Streaming movies and the kids playing on their devices was not an issue at all. The driveway was steep but our AWD vehicle had zero issues. It actually was quite exciting for the family to drive up and down the mountain on the driveway each day. I suspect a 2WD vehicle may have troubles at certain points. Sometimes these are the things we need to do to get to such great views! Definitely will consider this home when we return to the area!
