Spacious Studio Downtown! (Explorer's Suite)

Spacious Studio Downtown. Explorer's Suite (in a 5-unit building). Unit Sleeps 3 people.

The Explorer is one of 5 separate Suites to rent among the Acanthus House. The Explorer is located on the ground floor and equipped with a Queen size bed (an air mattress is also provided in the room) and kitchenette (no oven). This Suite offers a 3/4 bathroom with walk-in tiled shower. It is fully furnished with chairs, new small appliances and an electric fireplace. Wi-fi and a Smart TV is supplied for guests to log-in to their preferred streaming services.

Guests will find that one block from Acanthus Suites will bring you into the heart of downtown Friday Harbor, offering many delicious restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, ice-cream shops and art galleries, all within walking distance. On Saturday mornings the local San Juan Island Farmer's Market is a 5-minute walk from the Acanthus Suites!

Any or all Acanthus Suites can be rented for different group sizes!

The Acanthus House is one of Friday Harbor's first important historic homes. Built in 1913, it was a wedding gift for a wealthy merchant’s daughter. It has been beautifully restored. Located in historic downtown Friday Harbor; only 3 blocks from the ferry dock and Port of Friday Harbor and is an excellent option for those coming to explore the island and have a comfortable place to rest at night.

The internet / Wi-fi at this house should be sufficient for streaming video, phone calls, remote work and video conferencing.

Friday Harbor Stay in Explorer Suite

The place was perfectly located for ease in walking downtown where food, beverages and shopping awaits! The manager was easy to chat with, as needed. I think the Pandemic cleaning is overstated.

Winter vacation

This location is nice and convenient. Walking distance to everything in Friday Harbor, and a quick drive to anywhere we needed to go. Will stay here again.

Perfect accommodation, perfect location.

The perfect base if you are looking to discover all the beauty Friday Harbor has to offer. An easy walk into the heart of town and only stone's throw to the local brewery. Would definitely stay again!

What a gorgeous house!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: First of all, this house must have been stunning before it was "cut up" into rentals. That being said, the remodel work is amazing with lots of care being taken to keep the feel of this home. Secondly, the place was immaculately clean. Also, the mattress was just right! Easy to find in the dark coming off the ferry; a short walk into town. A wonderful jumping off place for SJI, but also for the other islands if you want to check them out. One note: the kitchenette doesn't have a stove/burner, just a microwave, so if you plan on cooking The Explorer might not be for you.

Luxury and Location

This quiet, spacious and lovely furnished craftsman suite is within walking distance of downtown. Refrigerator, microwave and sink may it possible to have light breakfast and coffee in bed. A super getaway.

Great weekend getaway!

This was the perfect spot to stay if you’re looking for a spacious, charming, clean studio. The host was helpful and communicative. The only thing missing for us was a kitchen, but we knew this ahead of time and planned accordingly. Truly a great experience!

Great location, but house is older and quirky

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house is in a great location. You are literally 1 min from town. We enjoyed our stay overall. However we originally booked a room with a separate bedroom away from the living room. We have a young son that goes to bed early. Our original unit needed maintenance, and we were moved to a larger unit, but it didn’t have a separate room. It defeated the purpose of my original booking. The space’s heater takes a long time to warm up the room. Although it did eventually.San Juan accommodations are painfully expensive for what you get out of it. Overall, we enjoyed our weekend in San Juan!

Great location and charming home

Perfect location if you’re on foot. It’s within walking distance from all the shops and restaurants and the ferry dock in Friday Harbor. Charming old home. Could use a sofa for relaxing after a long day of walking (Explorers Suite). The bed was comfortable but in an awkward spot. Would stay again.

Great location. Rental was accurately described. Only negative is that there are no optional shades for the windows. I stayed at this location for my night shift rotations so I had to sleep during the day, and with the lack of shades or curtains, it was light and very hard to sleep

loved it!

We enjoyed out stay. The picture shows a couch and there was no couch. There was a blow up bed, but that was not in the description. The walls are very thin and we were awaken every night at 1:00 am by the sound of the other residents coming home. Beautiful neighborhood, would be happy to stay there again.

Family Trip

We rented 2 rooms for 8 adults. This and explorers suite. Good amount of room. The shower stall in this room could use a good grout bleach. Dark and has smell. Otherwise clean. Not really a kitchen area. The bathroom sink doubles as your “kitchen”. Location was fantastic.

Concern for Privacy

I was concerned for my privacy inside this property. There were no blinds on the Eastern facing windows. This allowed for other suite tenets to see into my room. I made sure to dress in the bathroom. However, this room was super cute and in a great location. You can definitely hear other suite occupants. Super clean, super charming.

Quaint and roomy space with a few issues

The location of this unit was fabulous, a one minute walk to town. The space itself was roomy and Qwaint with an electric fireplace for Heating. A bonus was an additional heating unit in the bathroom. Be aware that there are several other units in the same house, With a 9 PM to 9 AM curfew for noise. We had issues two nught with other guests, but the property management company ended up, making making good on a mat. Know that if you need an immediate response, you need to use the emergency number, not just the regular phone number. We enjoyed the funky space, but the pillows were hideous and need to be replaced the shower needs to have it’s tile replaced, or at least the mold and mildew scrubbed from the grout. Bare bones hospitality at a 5-star price, but you can’t beat the location.

Cute space but rough experience

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall I was pretty unhappy with this place considering the cost. It’s an old house sale it was very loud when other gas came in and out the front door near our door. The bed was very uncomfortable and they were stains on the sheets. There were no coverings to block out the light in the early morning. And I think they claimed that the bed was king size but it was a queen. It was also a little dusty. The pros were it was close to town and easy to walk there.

Cute... but not quite what we'd hoped for.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house is ideally located an easy walk from everything Friday Harbor has to offer. It's cute, and if you squint you can get a sense of the original feel of the place.Unfortunately, the furniture is horribly in need of replacement. The mattress was worn out and badly sunken (my fiancé and I spent each night trying to claw our way out of the pit in the middle of it, which made for not very restful sleep), and the sofa is much the same. Also, the unit is located right by the front door (which is itself very noisy), and the wood floors and poor noise insulation meant that we heard and felt every step and spoken word by other occupants. Finally, the aesthetic touches (ie - the shoddy paint work, artwork, etc) do nothing to improve the ambiance, but I'd have giggled that off without issue had it been more physically comfortable.This place has potential, but it's certainly not yet met that potential. Fortunately, the property management staff is kind and communicative, but the owners should consider allowing them to invest in the place.
