Great place to stay
This is a very nice place to stay. It has everything you need and more for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. There are thoughtful touches everywhere and it is truly a home like feel. I would highly recommend this property!
Sanctuary of Serenity
This property exceeded our expectations. The views are truly amazing and worth the visit alone. Coupled with Ela’s hospitality, this apartment is an amazing choice for your Juneau visit.
Such a special place...
I'll give this property as many stars as in the Alaska State Flag.... Everything was just as described in description and more. Clean and amenities were well thought out. Owners gracious and helpful to boot. Instructions in unit were very clear and no help needed. History in the immediate area is quite fascinating and beautiful. The stay is still resonating with us...know where we will be staying when we come back to Juneau. Thank you Ela and Jan for the opportunity to stay....
Otter’s Hideaway is a Gem!
This was our first trip to Juneau and we were fortunate to have discovered this lovely Hideaway as our place to stay. The location was perfect to enjoy the beauty of Juneau, and the secluded setting made for a peaceful stay.
The overall property was one of the best we’ve stayed at. The view of Auke Bay was a delight, and the owners were helpful and always available to answer questions to ensure we had a great stay. Thanks for everything Ela and Jan!
Fantastic Finale to our AK Trip
After spending 4 days at a hotel in Juneau, then another 3 in Sitka, visiting museums, paddling, hiking, it was a real treat to chill at the Otter's Retreat for an all-to-brief 3 nights. The apartment couldn't be better for a couple - comfy bed, coffee and spices for making our own meals, wifi, streaming on TV, etc. - it was delightful to relax in a gorgeous setting and listen to the rain. We enjoyed a walk over to Duck Island, exploring the tide's rocky edges. It was a bit too wet to venture out in the kayaks provided, but we appreciated the effort Jan made to get them ready for us.
I pulled out my paints for a "plein air" experience under the covered deck for a few hours instead, which forced me to focus on the beauty of the place and was inspired.
Our arrival communication was the only drawback. We weren't able to pull up the information through VRBO, and calls to texts to Ela weren't answered because, we later learned, she was out of the country. But when we showed up late in the evening, Jan was there to welcome and assure us all was well!
But besides this minor glitch, we were delighted with our choice and would not hesitate to return. Now that we've seen the area, this will be our first choice for a longer stay Juneau!
A beautiful location for exploring the areas north of Juneau
a daylight basement apartment with a beautiful view of Auk Cove (about 12 miles north of downtown Juneau). The apartment is well furnished with comfy reading chairs to relax, and although kitchen is a bit small, it had all that you need for vacation cooking. Bed very comfy. Host had a good writeup on things to do in the area. We enjoyed our stay!
