Spacious, Family-Friendly Cottage with Stunning Channel View in Paw Paw Lake

Our charming, family vacation home is suitable for anyone and for any occasion: ranging from big families, to friend groups, to celebrating a special occasion; no matter the reason, it’s the perfect getaway! There are 4 separate bedrooms and 10 beds in total that could comfortably fit up to 13 people. 2 full bathrooms, and a half bath on the main floor.

As you walk in, you'll notice the vibrant lake house decor from around the world. Paintings and ceramics from Italy, figurines and tablecloths from Kenya, and a unique, tree bark dining table from Ecuador's Amazonian basin. There are 2 fireplaces: one classic fireplace in the living room, perfect for wine nights, and another antique, cast-iron wood burning fireplace in the lounge room.

For more fun, there is a pool table that can be converted to a ping pong table located in the main lounge area. Our kitchen has all the essentials including: a fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine, oven, stove top and plenty of counter space for prepping your own meals.

Outside, we have a deck area, which we recently remodeled and expanded, with a premium Weber gas grill, a classy gas fire pit table, and large outdoor cushioned chairs that rotate. Beyond the deck area, you will see that we have a rocking chair swing, space for volleyball or badminton courts to be set up, an outdoor fire pit, and a lake dock with room for a boat or for fishing. To take advantage of the lake, we provided you with two paddle boards, two adults can ride in each, for going around the calm channel in Paw Paw Lake.

We hope you enjoy the house as much as we do this summer! Lake houses are booking fast this summer, so make sure to make your reservations ASAP

Aspects: family friendly, quiet neighbors, trees in the backyard that offer more privacy, outdoor string lights, beautiful water front view, short drive or walk away from town center, surrounded by quaint towns/wineries/breweries/antique shops/farmers markets (worth the drive!)

Included: accessible and fast WiFi, TV (can access Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc), fresh linens and towels, washer/dryer, closet space, garage and driveway space (5+ cars), water rafts for boat tubing, soccer goal, volleyball net, badminton net, 2 paddle boards, and fishing pole upon request.

Location: Coloma, Michigan and on Big Paw Paw Lake. Close to St. Joseph and Benton Harbor. About 1.5 hours from Chicago and 3 hours from Detroit.

Very nice lake home

Our family enjoyed this home very much...plenty of room, pier for fishing with the grandkids, firepit with plenty of seating, and a great location in the nicer town of Coloma. Owners very friendly.

Great vacation spot!

Everyone had a blast here! There's tons of fun toys and activities in the garage, as well as a fire pit, a ping pong table, pool table, and a play structure to keep all ages entertained. Beautiful home.

We had a blast at this house. The host was very quick to reply when we needed something. We loved all the amenities and the location. The only downfall was that we were not aware of the spiral steps to get to the loft. I feel this should be show in the listing. It was not ideal going through another bedroom to get there either. But over all we enjoyed our stay.

Always seems like there is always something to do. Pool, Ping Pong, hot tub, fire pit, etc. Great for a group that likes activities. Right on the water as well. Great spot!

The septic system backed up. All of our guest were unable to use any type of plumbing for most of Saturday. The stairs leading to the upstairs bedroom are an adventure to say the least. It wasn’t the worst place ever. But it served its purpose for the weekend we had.

This property accommodated our large group well! We were a bit surprised by the layout and did not realize the bunkbed room was up in a lofted area (the stairs up were quite steep and a little scary for younger kids). Pictures depicting this would’ve been appreciated. The kitchen, front door knob and screen doors could definitely use some updating/repair. The hot tub was also in need of a cleaning and probably chemical re-treatment. All in all a wonderful time but we were surprised by a few things based on the high price point.

Fun Weekend Stay!

This house was a great location for a weekend getaway with my loved ones! There were plenty of beds for all of us and a great kitchen to prepare our meals! The outdoor space was lovely & we really appreciated it, even when the weather was not cooperating! There were some cobwebs and a few dead bugs that we came across, but the space itself really made up for it. I enjoyed my time playing pool, lounging on the couch, and making memories with the people I love. I would recommend this house for others who are looking to do the same!

Very responsive host

The house and property were spacious and very workable for our family. We loved the deck + hot tub, yard, and access to the lake. The living spaces inside the house were also very nice, with plenty of activities to do and access to yard and water "toys" in the garage. We had a miscommunication with our host at the beginning of our stay, but she addressed it immediately and fixed the problem right away. Our family had a lovely weekend at Paw Paw Lake!

nice place for extended family trip

Great spot for a big group to hang out, relax, and play. Owner was very generous to include paddle boards, things to float on, etc. for guests to use right in the backyard canal. Can get out to the big lake on paddle boards or find a boat to rent for the day. Beautiful area and great location 20 min east of St. Joe/Benton Harbor, 2.5 hours from Chicago. So much to do/see in the area- wineries, breweries, farms, sand dunes. Kids loved playing in the bunk room (connected through one of the main bedrooms up a spiral staircase), having backyard bonfires, and fishing off the dock. Cozy back family room overlooking the hot tub and backyard.

Wonderful Lake House!!

This property exceeded expectations! We rented 3 lake houses in the area for our 2 families. This house was the was the main location we gathered at because of all the amenities and yard. The yard is perfect! It’s large and flat which allowed for tables, yard games etc. the inside was fantastic as well for gatherings. The nugget ice machine and coke cooler were huge hits with our group. The house was very clean and comfortable! The host was responsive and friendly. We made wonderful memories here that will last a life time. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Great Stay

We were a group of 13 on our annual lake house trip. The bunk room was perfect for the kids, it was like their own private apartment. Just be careful on the stairs getting up there. The house is well stocked with towels, bed linens and even a few staples in the kitchen. Plenty of dishes, cups/glasses, silverware. The outside area was great. It was kind of chilly so it was really nice to have the firepit to sit around in the evening. The layout of family/dining room was great as we got to hangout and not be on top of one another. If our travels bring us back to Coloma, we will definitely look up this house again.

Nice stay at Paw Paw Lake

We like Paw Paw Lake because it’s close to many sights in western MI, but you can boat on a smaller and safer lake. The house was lovely. I wasn’t expecting it to be so well decorated. Ecuadorian dining table! But the best feature for our family of older teens and 20s was for sure the pool table! The hot tub was a close second. And the yard is spacious. I seriously felt like we were staying in a hotel. The sheets and towels were awesome. And Pillar keeps beach towels well stocked as well. Was so helpful to have laundry on site. And the kitchen had simply everything we needed and more, even a fancy ice machine. Did I say that this house comfortably sleeps 16? Note that it is in a channel, not directly on the lake. You’ll want to rent a boat. The wonderful host was happy to recommend a place. Give it at least two weeks or boats are rented out.

Terribly disappointed with the condition of the property. the front porch had a rotting bird nest falling apart with no functioning lights and the door handle comes off in your hand. The kitchen is so dated the appliances are rusting and the floor mat was filthy. One bed room had no cover over the duct and the closet door were simply leaning in against the contents. Multiple burned out light bulb and missing light fixtures with exposed electrical wires were found. The stairs to the loft were unsafe and the stairwell in the loft, the handrail had no balisters. The deck was rotting around the spa. The swing set was broken in several places. The dock is collapsing. The yard is a mix of bare dirt, weeds, over grown bushes, and poison ivy. In my opinion the property should not be rented without significant improvements.

Not as advertised

This property was not as advertised and made it difficult to enjoy our trip. Dirty, e.g., well water not properly treated smelled terrible, ran yellow in toilets, not safe to drink, brush teeth, wash food, etc. beds had hairs. Musty bedding and smell overall. Water damage on walls. AC broken most of our stay-sweltering hot. Bunk bedroom only accessible by unsafe floating, twisting steps in another bedroom. Steps go up to hole in bunk room floor that doesn’t have adequate guardrail to be safe for young children. Dishwasher was unreliable. Dishes in cabinets put away dirty. Boat dock not as advertised, borderline unusable. House is on small canal, not main lake, so view is of lots of other houses, not open water.

We arrived to the property with 7 women and 4 kids under 5 and the front door lock wasn’t working. It took me almost an hour to get in contact with the owner. She offered a refund since we had young kids and it was bed time, but then rescinded it by saying “deal with it, someone will be there in an hour” and then hanging up on me. After another hour someone got here to fix the lock since the owner wasn’t even in the state. During that time we found the back door to be unlocked and open, the slide on the play set to be broken and dangerous, the perimeter of the house to be littered with garbage, the cans on the street to be full, and the home to be in condition different from the pictures in the listing. We were there for 3 nights and ran out of toilet paper (we would have brought some if we knew there would be a limited supply, but we were not aware). When we took showers we found the master shower to not close and hot/cold is reversed. Additionally, the house is not suitable for young kids. There are lots of sharp corners and collectible items, and the room with 4 bunk beds is in a loft. Also, the house is NOT on the lake. It is on an inlet and looks out to other homes. We tried to communicate to VRBO about the issues and after being on the phone with them for almost 2 hours they said they would call me back and never did. If you are a group of adults, this place is a decent place to stay. Would not recommend for families or people who want to be on the water.

Very disappointing and challenging stay

We rented the property because of the lake access and intended to bring our boat. House listing looked great for long weekend over 4th of July with family celebrating my Mother’s 80th birthday. Communication with home owner was great until we checked in and found numerous issues. Home was not very clean, loose garbage in garage, boat lift was inoperable making the houses boat access inaccessible, screen doors were broken, trampoline was mangled, hot tub was visibly dirty with debris floating in it, and on and on I can go. When we contacted homeowner she suggested we leave vs attempting to resolve any of the notes issues. We lost over 1 day of boating because of the boat access issue, and had to find other lake access ourselves. VRBO has been very disappointing and has done zero to help resolve the matter. We dealt with the issues that we could ourselves and made sure my Mother’s 80th birthday was not hampered by the home owner and VRBO’s failures in the customer service area. The house is nice sized, sleeps quite a few people, but needs TLC to bring it to the level one would anticipate for the nightly rate being charged. I would not recommend renting this home and we will not use VRBO again based on this experience.
