Summers House is a rustic contemporary country home and architectural gem - complimented by a stunning pool and spa incorporating the properties native stone in walls, steps and pool surround. The pool, like the house, is one-of-a-kind and designed to delight guests.
Warm, welcoming, filled with art, antiques, and books, the house garners rave reviews from groups who enjoy its embrace. As one notable author who enjoyed the house stated, 'Now I have been spoiled; every other place we stayed in after yours seemed well, soulless. That might be so for all our future vacation homes.'
Designed by award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, Summers House has welcomed guests and hosted wonderful gatherings since constructed by the Summers family in the late 1970's.
'The house as art' is Robert Zinkhan's goal. In designing Summers house he achieved his goal and created a home beautifully integrated into the natural landscape.
DESIGN AND DECOR
Summers House features terra cotta tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and a large fireplace constructed from cobblestones left behind when Chinese laborers removed native stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Historic tumbling rock walls built by the Chinese have been re-stacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property have provided additional reminders of the past.
Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, and the house’s natural cedar walls and exposed beams. A large 18th Century European dining table graces the open dining area. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a Summers Family heirloom, has been restored and recently tuned.
Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six (up to seven.) The master bedroom boasts a comfortable king sized bed, and ensuite bath with a large walk-in shower. The two queen bedrooms share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom has it own sink/vanity to provide privacy.
An enormous deck spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpias, the San Francisco Bay, and Los Chamizal Vineyards through which you drive to reach the house. Views can be enjoyed from the living areas as well, and sunsets are breathtaking.
LOCATION
Wind up one of the most scenic country roads in Sonoma to reach Summers House, located on a private country property in east side Sonoma just three miles - 10 minutes - from historic Sonoma Plaza. Drive through vineyards, and climb up into the hills where the house is nestled on a wooded hillside where wildlife abounds. Drive slowly as the road is a hiker's paradise and wildlife crossing.

IMPORTANT POOL AND SPA INFORMATION
The pool and spa are heated by propane, which is a significant added expense to the property's operations. VRBO does not provide a way to add the daily expense and we do not wish to raise rates to cover the expense as all guests will not opt to heat the pool/and or spa. Each group will be asked to pay an additional fee if heating is desired: ($150 per day for both pool and spa, or $50 per day for use of just the spa). During cooler months, November through April, there will be a fee to preheat the pool based upon weather temperature and propane usage. There may be a start up fee in Oct and May, depending upon weather. There will be no start up fee from June through September. During warmer weather pool heating may not be desired or required. Please note that the house was enjoyed by appreciative guests for ten years without a pool and spa. If you do not wish to use the pool and/or spa, it adds additional ambiance to the property, which is yours to enjoy at no additional cost.
IMPORTANT RENTAL AGREEMENT AND CANCELLATION INFORMATION
Please note that all guests will be required to sign a rental agreement with the owners. Reserving through VRBO is not the final step. The owners wish to make certain that all guests are aware of the area's rules and regulations, that the owner resides on and manages the property - with great respect for the privacy and comfort of guests - and that guests sign a release of liability for any incidents that may take place on the property including injury of any type, encounters with wildlife, or pool/spa accidents.
Please note that the owner requires that guests obtain travel insurance if they wish to be reimbursed for cancellations that take place after the cancellation period goes into affect. Travel insurance is quite reasonable to purchase. It must be purchased before the beginning of an incident such as a rain storm or fire, so it is best to purchase when making reservations. Forbes recommends Allianz Global Assistance, Amex Assurance, Generali Global Assistance, Seven Corners, Travelex, and Travel Guard. The owner cannot offer reimbursement for cancellations due to natural disasters, human induced incidents or disasters, health and illness issues, deaths in the family, etc., once inside the cancellation period.

À propos de l’hôte
Hôte : Pat Summers
Pat Summers lived in the all-encompassing world of PR and Events for 25 years, from 1985 through 2010. She and her team conceived, created, produced and promoted food, wine and art events such as Sonoma Salute to the Arts and the Napa Valley Mustard Festival. Her whirl wind days consisted of creating enticing promotions and print, press kits (named by journalists and clients as the best on the business), finding and nurturing sponsors, designing events that sprang to life after months of planning. Visitors were immersed in living art as they indulged in food and wine. Multi-dimensional, presented food and wine in settings vibrant with music and living art, the events introduced guests to the beauty and bounty of the agricultural countryside and warmth of wine country hospitality, seducing them into partaking of all the wine country had to offer and to returning time and time again.
Sponsors including Visa USA and later, American Express, contracted with Pat's company for wine country promotions. The crushing recession of 2007 – 2009 took its toll as sponsors reluctantly pulled out – although attendance at some events increased. In 2008 vacation rentals were on the rise, and Pat and her late husband, Dave, launched Inn Wine Country. A rental house, behind their offices and across the creek, accessed by a bridge, and within walking distance of historic Sonoma Plaza, presented them with a perfect opportunity. As the PR and Event business struggled, their new hospitality business was born and thrived. Pat transitioned from destination promotion to hospitality hosting.
Pat is a hands on, attentive, responsive full service host. She takes great pride in Summers House and all of the Inn Wine Country properties she represents. She is available to assist at a moment's notice.
Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement
Pat and her late husband Dave sought rural land on which to build their dream home in the 1970s. They discovered their wooded, boulder strewn three acre plus acre lot, located just three miles from historic Sonoma Plaza, hired well-know award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, and began the journey of creating Summers House. Building their hand crafted home was a two year labor of love. When their children, Todd and Tannia, were grown with their own families, and their PR firm closed, Summers House became their second vacation rental. Ideally located it is ten minutes for The Plaza's restaurants, wine tasting rooms, shops, and galleries, yet private and serene with views over the pool that reach to Mount Tamalpais and the San Francisco Bay.
The property offers serene seclusion and privacy, yet is just 10 minutes from Historic Sonoma Plaza restaurants, markets, tasting rooms, galleries, and historic sites.
Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique
Built of huge open beams and cedar, with ample large windows and skylights, the timeless Summers House features an open floor plan, conceived by Pat before the term open concept was coined. Pat and her sister, Connie, hand picked the massive fireplaces cobblestones from the property and from a quarry in a canyon below house. The pool and spa, surrounded by a stone terrace and accessed by handcrafted stone steps, is a work of art. Lush landscaping and a water fall, compliment the natural landscape. The property is a haven for birds, honey bees and butterflies. A lovely, embracing and cozy world, Summers House offers an intimate gathering place for family and friends, many of whom return time and time again.
