Sunset Vista Cottage - On North Long Lake & The Paul Bunyan Trail in Merrifield

Come enjoy the sunsets on North Long Lake! Enjoy a morning stroll, bike ride, or snowmobile on the Paul Bunyan Trail just out the front door of our updated 2 bedroom 2 bath cottage. Work remotely from Merrifield with our High Speed WiFi (300 mbps), your boss said it’s ok
.or enjoy the lake ALL DAY with complementary kayaks and SUP in the summer, launch your boat just down the road and park it at the dock. Additional water toys and sand toys are in the shed for your family to enjoy. Relax at the lake with the family or just a couple of friends with your favorite beverage and take in the Minnesota sunsets while listening to the amazing loons. The night wouldn’t be right if you didn’t wrap it up with a crackling fire and s’mores!

On the main level Sunset Vista Cottage features a large updated kitchen with granite and new appliances and all the cooking utensils you’ll need; a bar top height table for two with a view in the kitchen; a large oak dining table for the crew; a wine fridge; Kuerig coffee maker; washer and dryer; master bedroom with tv and en suite bath; walk in closet; a pack n play for your little one; air conditioning; and a gas grill.

In the walkout basement we have a second bedroom (queen bed); a full bath; 65” inch flat screen with Netflix included; WiFi; and a pullout sleeper sofa along with a bunk bed for the kids for extra sleeping space; a record player with some old and new vinyl tucked away in the bedroom closet; and plenty of games for the kids.

Down by the lake we have a fire pit and plenty of chairs, a picnic table, and of course a hammock for an afternoon nap. We have a nice little sand beach for the kids to play in and to just hang out and catch some rays. We have two kayaks and a SUP along with a shed full of beach toys and some fishing gear you are free to use. We have a nice shallow shore line which is great for the kiddos swimming, however if the water drops a little bit, docking the boat can be a challenge. In 2023 we are going to add a few sections of dock which should help with this. Fishing is pretty good here. You’ll find all the panfish you need for the kids to catch ‘em all day long about 100 yards off the dock. Rumor has it there is some good bass and walleye fishing too.. ;-)

We had a great stay at Sunset Villa for an 'end of summer' celebration with our families. We appreciated the large dining table so we could all be together at meal time. The kids love all the inflatable toys and being able to bike on the Paul Bunyan right out the front door. The property manager was very responsive to any question/need that we had.

Retirement Practice

My husband and I plan on retiring up north and used our stay at Sunset Vista for practice having our adult children up for a visit on the lake. The cottage was well appointed with everything we could need, and very tastefully designed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We had everything we needed for a family wedding down the road a Gather on 3, except warm weather! No pontoons on the lake when it’s an unseasonable 50 degrees in September! Lucky for us, the location was convenient. The cabin is so comfortable. Huge kitchen! The proximity to the trail is amazing too. Thank you for a nice stay.

Great Retreat

Paradise

This worked out even better than we hoped! We had 4 kids ages 7-12 and 2 adults. The cabin was beatiful! We had fun in the lake with all the water toys, rented bikes from Train Bell, mini golfed at Lakes R &R, rented the jet boat from Jake at R&R (he's awesome!) for a day of tubing on the lake and went to Nisswa on Wednesday for lunch at Ganley's and turtle races! The kids walked over to Train Bell for treats everyday! It was AWESOME! We made memories for a lifetime. Thank you.

I was a nice stay. The beds were very comfortable. The shower was awesome. Plenty of everything. The Kitchen was amazingly large and open with a nice fee into the dining area. It worked well for us. All was great thanks.

Biking trip - great experience

Janet was easy to communicate with and very responsive. The water toys were an added benefit and the house was great for two couples to have gathering space as well as space to ourselves. Very clean and great access to the Paul Bunyan trail for biking.

Sisters Weekend

Four sisters having a relaxing long weekend on the lake. The listing was exactly as described, beautifully clean, plenty of towels and blankets. One of the very best-equipped properties we have rented. Everything you could possibly need in your kitchen preparations, plenty of TP and other supplies, etc. It was a great relaxing weekend with everything we needed and super clean.

Lake Escape

We stayed for 5 nights at this beautiful home with 3 adults and 2 children ( ages 5&6 ). Plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable and not on top of each other. The kitchen was gorgeous, functional, and had everything we needed to make all our meals. The lake was stunning and gave it a calm/relaxing feel. I would recommend this home to all my friends and family! We will be back!

Beautiful cabin for a comfy getaway!

We loved it the minute we walked in! It's beautifully decorated, it's all new - "brand-spanking-new" appliances, cabinets, everything. The bed was comfy (although pretty high!), both bedrooms have a bathroom and there is plenty of storage space to unpack and settle in. There is a great dining table and an extra table next to beautiful windows looking out onto the lake. Everything is well-stocked! I mean they have everything we needed! There are plenty of towels in the kitchen and in the bathrooms. We hope to come again in the summer!

Great, clean place!

We loved our stay here! The house was clean and stocked with basically anything you could need. My kids loved the beach toys and the water was shallow enough for my 5 year old to be standing at the end of the dock just fine. The oven was not working and unfortunately the handy man never showed, but it wasn't lack of trying on Janet's part. She called me right away and got a hold of a handy man right away, but we know how their hours are. We ordered food from the bar that was a few blovks away and it was fantastic. My kiddos are still talking about this place 😊

Unbelievable, Clean and Comfortable

This is the best property we have ever rented in 10 years of using HomeAway/VRBO. Clean, clean, clean, well stocked kitchen, plenty of linens, great communication with the owner. The owner went out of her way to take care of our extra needs for snowmobile trailer parking! The property is close to the Paul Bunyan trail, out the front door to our snowmobiles and across the street is the Paul Bunyan trail to all of the other Brainerd Lakes trails and surrounding area trails. We had a great time all day snowmobiling knowing we were coming back to a hot shower and comfortable beds! We can't express our satisfaction enough for this property. We will be back!!!

Nice place on a Great Lake.

We stayed 14 days @ Sunset Vista and enjoyed it. The house was clean and mostly well appointed, it could have used more plates. The bed has been well used, could use replacement soon. The yard needed to be mowed when we arrived and the kayaks hadn’t been taken out of storage yet, the lawn was mowed the next evening, we took the kayaks out from under the deck ourselves to use. We enjoyed the view from the kitchen and only wished there was a deck there overlooking the lake. The stairs did get old for us seniors but it’s hard to find a perfect spot. Great fishing for the kids by the reeds they were catching blue gill and sunnies left and and right. This place has a beautiful view of the sunset, we used the fire pit often, fishing poles and water, sands toys provided along with life jackets, that was nice. All and all a great time.

Cute place

My husband and I stayed for 3 days just to get out of town. The place is very nicely updated. We chose a fall weekend hoping to get to see some fall colors, but thanks to our unusually hot and dry summer , things were still quite green. The trail out back was very busy with people biking and walking all day long. Wish there were curtains on the doors, we felt a little exposed to everyone walking by. Tried sitting outside on the patio during the day but the neighbor was burning leaves both days and the smell was terrible. We are both on the shorter side and the bed in the main bedroom was incredibly high and felt very small. There was a welcome basket on the table with a bottle of wine, guestbook, info book, etc. neither of us drink, but the thought was nice. The information book has dated menus. Cobwebs and dust in corners and on walls. There also were about 100 bees on the back door and back outdoor porch while we were there. Seems to be a bit of a problem. Overall, it was a good weekend away.

Great Getaway!

This property was wonderful for my family of 5 and parents. It had everything we could possibly need and more. We especially appreciated the pack n play and high chair for our 2 year old. Our kids enjoyed the sand toys, hammock, kayaks and toys in the lower level. The water is very shallow and clear which for our family was great. We didn’t have to worry about the kids getting into too deep of water while they played. We visited Nisswa twice which was a short 15 min drive away. Cute Main Street with shops, restaurants and The Chocolate Ox for candy/ice cream. Yum! Our *only* complaint was the house was very warm. We had great weather all weekend but the AC was clearly not working which by evening the house temp was over 80 degrees. There were multiple fans in the house which helped but we would’ve appreciated a screen on the upper level bedroom window to cool off the room at night. A screen on the front door would also have helped get a nice cross breeze in the house. We had to keep these closed to not allow bugs inside. All in all it was a relaxing Memorial Weekend and we hope to return again in the future!
