Red Sled Lakefront Cabin

A great home base for taking advantage of all Talkeetna has to offer, or as a quiet retreat from the world in your own private environment. The “Red Sled” is perfect for sharing with others or for a family, with a new queen bed on the main floor along with the bathroom, and a second queen plus a twin in the loft bedroom which is open to main floor below. Lake views abound everywhere in your cabin, or step out onto the spacious covered front porch to take in the sounds of nature while enjoying the lake. Summer or winter, listen to the loons or catch a midnight view of the aurora borealis, the Red Sled offers a private lakefront retreat in the woods year-round.

Take advantage of the fully-equipped kitchen including full-size range/oven and refrigerator, grill out in summer, or sample the restaurants in the area. You’ll have access to a washer and dryer, smart TV and wi-fi; dogs are allowed with prior approval from the host. There’s ample parking along with maximum privacy found at the end of a curved birch-lined driveway.

Gather around the campfire after a day of hiking or fishing in summer); enjoy a ski, skate, snowshoe, or kicksled in winter. The area has a variety of trails (groomed in winter) and lots of options for outdoor activities summer or winter. There’s even a unique playground for children and a covered ice rink near downtown Talkeetna. Of course you’ll find a complimentary “Red Sled” for you to use – a kicksled in winter, a rocker sled on the porch in summer!

The Red Sled is conveniently located just a mile off Talkeetna Spur Road for easy access but with the quiet that only being far enough removed from traffic can bring. In the immediate area are Denali Brewing’s Tasting Room (with wood-fired pizza and fresh salads), Cubby’s Grocery (3 miles), and Moore’s Hardware (which carries much more than hardware!). Downtown Talkeetna is just 10 miles away – an easy drive for shopping, dining, flightseeing, fishing, attending events and other activities.

This was our first time to Alaska and greatly appreciated The location of this house. Close enough to Anchorage, Denali State Park, and talkeetna. We went off-season so there were many things that were closed but there were no crowds and traffic was good. It rained just about every day that we were here so it was nice to have the cabin with a porch that we could sit on and enjoy the lake. Lovely house, just what you need, and very clean. Would definitely stay here again if I ever visit the area again.

The best VRBO stay ever!

The Red Sled has set the absolute best standard for a VRBO rental- and we’ve been all over. This is a rustic cabin, located adjacent to a serene lake where the loons greet you happily as you arrive. Beautifully decorated and furnished with everything you need. Easy to operate utilities and the owners spent a lot of time putting a notebook together of everything from “how to” use the TV to all the nearby restaurants and shopping. Very close to Talkeetna and lots of wildlife in the area (we had to stop the car when a big moose sauntered out of woods right around the corner from the cabin and slowly walked across the street into the woods on the other side). The kitchen has everything and our host had kindly supplied it with coffee and other goodies. No issues with check in or out and if we had a question the owner got right back to us with a response via email or text. Don’t miss this place- it has to be the secret VRBO location for training owners “how to do it right”.

Comfortable, scenic, and spacious for 2 people. This was my son’s favorite place in Alaska. Close enough to the brewery, Burch syrup shop, IGA grocery store, gas station and downtown area where we enjoyed shops, restaurants, hiking, zip-lining, plane ride to Denali and ATV ride. It was quiet and relaxing. Saw a moose through the window just outside. Would love to go back.

Wonderful setting and amenities

The setting and view out the back wall and porch were wonderful. The coffee station was great and there were plenty of towels and blankets. There was a fire ban when we were visiting, otherwise we would have used the fire pit. Not recommended for large groups looking for privacy from one another, but we were happy for the communal spaces.

Perfect Cabin, Loved it!

The cabin was wonderful and in such a beautiful setting by the lake. It was easy to get to, just a mile or so off the highway. Very private, so quiet, and still close to Talkeetna for shopping or dining. We visited Talkeetna and the river, drove to Denali one day, and had supper at the brewery. Thanks for such a great place to stay, were already planning our next visit.

Beautiful Retreat

The Red Sled Cabin is a perfect place to get some R&R. I so enjoyed sitting on the deck and taking in the beautiful view. The cabin was clean, cozy, had everything I needed, and the blackout shades and curtains made it great to sleep in. Small glitch with the check out as they thought I checked out late but it was the time on the security camera that was off. I would love to stay there again

Great place to stay

Very clean with comfortable beds. Great property on a lake. We got to watch beavers and loons. The owner was awesome and let us switch weekends due to medical appointments. That was greatly appreciated! Our family got to have a quiet weekend to unwind. Took a flight to Denali with K2 Aviation which is a must while in Talkeetna. Will stay again.

Best VRBO we have ever stayed in

The cabin was clean, and perfectly stocked with everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and everything was just perfectly decorated. The welcome and information book put together from the host was very well done, very informative. Beautifully hidden in the woods on a gorgeous small lake, but not far from places we visited in the area, such as the town of Talkeetna, the Denali, Brewery, and Chubbys grocery store. It was about 2+hours from the Denali National Park entrance. We really enjoyed our visit at the Red Shed Cabin. Would highly recommend it.

Beautiful cabin on a quiet lake

Beautiful cabin! Very clean with lots of extras to make the stay comfortable! Only issue was the water had a very strong smell of iron - made showering and cooking a bit of a challenge. I did contact Holly, who responded that she would check her filter system the next day. Nice cabin! and that she works

Comfy lakeside cabin near Talkeetna

We enjoyed staying in this warm and cozy cabin in the woods on a lake near Talkeetna. It was very clean and well-stocked, and the host provided lots of helpful information about the area. It was fun to see the loon parents in the lake fishing for the young loon.

Serene lake setting

Perfect. A place for my wife and I to rest and rejuvenate from our long travel to Alaska from North Carolina. Walking on the remote road around the cabin and sitting on porch and watching wildlife. Pretty darn cool.

Hidden Treasure

My second comfortable stay. Peaceful tranquility, which would only be interrupted by the call of the loons or the Sandhill Cranes and the late evening sudden cur plunking of the beaver tails on the lake. Hostess is most attentive and overflows with warm persona.

Summer vacation

We stayed at Red Sled for 6 nights. The property is well maintained and met our needs while we were there. I appreciated the kitchen being stocked with the tools needed to make a variety of foods. During our stay, the host was very responsive. Our kids loved making smores at the fire pit and the lake was nice to look at. We enjoyed biking, hiking, dog sledding, ATVing, boating and more. I recommend this property!

There’s nothing like looking out on a lake and the views it provides, summer or winter. The neighborhood is quiet, yet convenient to the main road in to Talkeetna. There’s no through traffic, and only a handful of neighbors on large-acreage parcels of land.
