Come relax with friends, family or have a romantic getaway at this, newly renovated, water front retreat. Enjoy fishing, kayaking, manatees and the most amazing sunsets. Have a glass of wine on the dock, s'mores by the fire pit or throw some steaks on the grill and enjoy the huge back deck.
The property is beautifully situated on Governors Creek and famous for flat water kayaking. Its also just blocks from the downtown area. With all small towns trains come and go right through town. The tracks run close by this property so If you don't like trains you won't like it here.( Look at the picture the first picture to see the location.) For me I love trains, there is something fascinating and a little romantic about these old trains. Kids love them too. If you love all the small town vibes, the water, the boats, the trains, the friendly people, quaint restaurants and all the other things a small town has to offer you will love this place..
So bring your friends, your family and enjoy!

Very cute home. It was clean and mostly upgraded. The downstairs shower drain held water but probably just needed cleaning. The train in the back of the property did run a few times during the night but we eventually had to laugh when that happened. Made some great memories.

Magical peaceful view in a quiet neighborhood

We loved the quiet neighborhood (though a train runs right by - but didn't really bother us). The views from everywhere out back and on the porch were very relaxing. We loved being able to throw the kayaks easily in the water. We went 1 or 2 times every day we were there. Had it been cooler we would have definitely enjoyed the fire pit. Amazingly enough there were little to no mosquitos or gnats which surprised us being right on the water. Great stay!

Great house for rent but with a limited pots and pand for cooking. Stove burners on low were actually high.

River house

Beautiful home with a large deck, balcony off the master, and dock access. It’s at the end of a quiet cul de sac. We would stay here again.

Nice get away

Nice get away house for a family or a friends vacation. We enjoyed ping pong table and games in the garage...did "mini olympics".

Amazing and beautiful!

This was our second time staying here because we loved it so much the first time. If you love fishing, Kayaking, biking, sunrises and sunsets this is the place. Its quiet and peaceful minus the train that comes by every so often, but I enjoy it. The owner is super nice and is always available when needed. We will always come back here to visit.

Family time

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on this property! Layout was perfect for playing games as a group
 There were nine of us as well as the dartboard, ping-pong table, and foosball tables in the garage. We were all able to sit in the living room to watch anything on TV. It was lovely having a fire pit and a beautiful beautiful view of the cove. Highly recommend this property for a getaway! The host was quick to respond to anything we . We would definitely stay here next time we are in the area!

Relaxing view on the water

We loved our stay with perfect views. First thing we did was go to the water and saw mantees and a baby gater. Kayaking was awesome and very peaceful. The owner was very attentive and always got right back with us when we needed anything. We will definitely be back.

My family of 4 enjoyed staying at this wonderful home. Having direct dock access to Governors Creek was amazing. Mornings were delightful with a view of fish jumping out of the water and a manatee gracefully swimming. We went kayaking several times, giving us the ability to observe various water birds like egrets and many turtle families. It was nice to be able to kayak on a whim w/o the expense of renting equipment, nor having to make reservations/stress about getting somewhere on time. Evenings were spent playing as a family in the garage: cornhole, foosball, ping pong, and darts. I can say with confidence that everyone's skills in ping pong and foosball vastly improved. We used the fire pit one evening as well to roast marshmallows! The grill was great for burgers, hot dogs, and steaks. Propane was provided. Downstairs there is 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds, a full bathroom, and a daybed with a pullout trundle bed underneath. Upstairs there is a bedroom with a king size bed with the deck overlooking the creek, and another bedroom with a king sized bed. A full bathroom is in between the bedrooms. The beds are VERY comfortable. Yes, we heard the train multiple times but because we knew this in advance and were mentally prepared for it, this was not an issue. Although there aren't photos of the bathrooms in the listing (as of this review), rest assured that the bathrooms are nice and modern.The home was clean and was a relaxing oasis for us. I would highly recommend!

Home away from home

Literally nothing negative to say. Beautiful home, beautiful view from the home, and the owner is an exceptionally friendly and accommodating host! We lost our home to a fire just before Thanksgiving and we have been jumping from house to house while they fix everything. This host worked with us on checking in early since we did not have anywhere to go. His home is impeccable and hands down our favorite house we have stayed in. We played ping pong, darts and foosball..we fished and just sat by the water relaxing. We will definitely be repeating our stay soon.

Better than expected!

Even better than the pictures online! A nice size quaint home with the most beautiful relaxing backyard view. And even though it rained most of the weekend, we still loved it! Great sitting areas for conversation, a ping pong table for competition, the railroad trestle and trains for excitement, and God’s beautiful creation of Spanish moss, lily pads, water, and trees right outside the back door!

Just What We Needed

My husband I, along with our two kids, ages 14 and 9, loved The Kayakers Retreat! House was beautiful and had everything we needed for the perfect, relaxing vacation. We saw manatee, birds, and turtles each day as we kayaked the beautiful creek. Also enjoyed our nightly dart tournaments in the garage. House is in a quiet location but still close enough for quick trips to stores and restaurants. Property manager answered all questions promptly and helped us secure reservation. I would highly recommend.

So Relaxing!

Our stay here was amazing. We had 7 of us spending 4 days in town for a family wedding and needed a place to relax and have a home base for kids and grandparents around wedding festivities and this was exactly that. The house was spotless and just as described. The kayaking was amazing our kids would have moved in and stayed, and Fred is an amazing host, very responsive and supportive. We traveled from Vt with 3 kids, my mother in law and my wife’s 80+ year old grandmother, exhausted and we showed up and immediately relaxed and Fred had a bottle of wine on the table like he read our minds. Can’t recommend this place enough and look forward to visiting again!

Beautiful dog friendly water front property!

We celebrated my husband's birthday here. He wanted the following criteria: near water to kayak and near springs to swim, as well as a fire pit for a bonfire (men sure love their fires lol) We also needed to bring our small elderly dog with us. This property met all those requirements and more! Everyone has an amazing time! We waved at the trains passing by, enjoyed the dock, we even had manatees come RIGHT up to us to check us out!! We also saw a hummingbird! The owner/manager of the property was quick to respond, which was fantastic. Everyone in our 7 person group kept commenting on how lovely the property was, so you won't regret staying here. I highly recommend this location!

Good experience at Kayakers Retreat

Our stay at the Kayakers Retreat was a nice experience. We had plenty of room for six adults and two children under 12. Being able to sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the creek was nice. For two days in a row, we were able to watch three manatees feed next to the dock. A small alligator, rabbits, and squirrels were also observed. Kayaking on the creek was beautiful and having the kayaks and equipment on site was great! Our grandsons quickly made friends with some of the neighborhood children and had fun playing together. In addition, the garage had a ping pong table set up, which the boys enjoyed. As some other reviews have mentioned, the property is near the train tracks, but for most of our stay the trains passing by weren’t too bothersome. Overall, we enjoyed the property and would definitely stay there again.

Going to the Chapel

We had a delightful stay at your home. My only complaint is not spending more time there! We were so involved in wedding festivities that our actual time there was limited. I will say that when we returned we were completely engulfed in a warm, inviting and clean home. Thank you for the wine that was awaiting our arrival. Coffee each morning on the deck was especially nice. I personally loved the train and YES it is close but enchanting. My grandchildren and grand pups did not arrive until Saturday afternoon but they availed themselves to the kayaking (well only one was old enough) the table tennis and corn holes! Great additions for guests as well as the dock for fishing. On a side note The Clay Theater is a great venue for a wedding. It is beautifully redone and a wonderful place to say I do. You should partner with them and provide a wedding retreat for the newlyweds! At least for the wedding night! Thank you again for opening your home. The grandchildren loved the train!!! In addition the dock was well lighted and was so beautiful at night to look at. A very peaceful and wonderful neighborhood. Barb

Fun with Kayaks

We really enjoyed our stay, especially kayaking up Governors creek. We saw a manatee!!! The train tracks were a little loud, but earplugs solved that, other than that, the house was super clean and comfortable. Frederic was very responsive to any questions we had and is a great guy. Frederic brought over a brand new Weber grill for our family BBQ. It was fun plucking a lime off the tree for our cocktails. :-) The lemon tree was also loaded with lemons, wish we had brought a juicer to make lemonade. We're looking forward to our next visit.
