Summary:
The San Marcos River Haus is the perfect family getaway. Enjoy a private, gated retreat on 2 acres, the River Haus is the perfect blend of luxury living and rustic charm. The property has plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces for the whole family to be together or get quiet time if needed. Quiet times from 10:00 pm-10:00 am please. We would love for you to visit and have a wonderful time but no hooting and hollering outside after 10:00 pm. We respect our neighbors rights to get good rest.

The Space:
2486 square feet of rustic luxury with an excellent river view. There are two master bedrooms, each with its own oversized private bathroom and private entrance. The open kitchen is well situated for entertaining your family and friends. The garage is equipped with a shuffleboard table, foosball table, and games for the kids. There are 3 kayaks and fishing gear for you to enjoy. Relaxation is the goal! With so many different spaces to choose from, inside and outside you will enjoy your time at the River Haus.

Guest Access:
The entire home is yours to enjoy! Check in will be a breeze, there is a coded lock that will be set up with a code just for you. Please park in front of the garage only.

The Neighborhood:
The River Haus is situated in a secluded, secure, gated community. Feel free to stroll through the neighborhood, ride bikes, and play in the great outdoors. There is a spring-fed creek that runs down one side of the property, so feel free to take the little ones on a crawfish hunt!

Getting Around:
We are located minutes from downtown San Marcos, walking distance from several toobing companies, and nestled in the historic and private Riverbend community.

Other Things to Note:
We highly recommend checking out our favorite spots in and around San Marcos:
The Aquarena Springs Glass Bottom Boat tour-you will learn all about the San Marcos river (this is where is begins and it floats right by the River Haus) see fish and turtles swimming by.
There are so many amazing places to eat! Try Herbet's Taco Hut or The Tap Room (their burgers are crazy good!)

There are two hosts available to chat/text/talk. We are always monitoring our phones to make sure that you are comfortable. Our goal is to provide a 5 star experience and ensure that all of your needs are met.

PA family visiting Texas

14 family members visiting aunt&uncle for the week. The river haus was an excellent choice to house our large group. It had everything we needed (minus wash cloths) to make our stay comfortable. Convenient location to Austin and San Antonio.

Beautiful comfortable stay

My family and I stayed here for a graduation. Everyone loved the home and was comfortable staying there. We enjoyed the kayaks and fishing gear even though it was raining most of the time we were there. There was enough space for all of us to be comfortable. Overall a very memorable stay for all of us!

Arrived at property, grass was knee high. Cobwebs on porch. Bird poop, and feathers on back door way. Pictures on website did not match the actual location. Everything was grown over. Not a good trip to dock area with it all grown over. Had to wait until grass was mowed the next day. Was told grass was going to be mowed at 7:20am. Two guys with small mowers showed up and took most of the day to mow. Asked if they could mow closer to house so kids could play. Took 2 hours more hours for that to happen. No night or morning fishing we’re able to happen

Fantastic stay San Marcos Riverfront

Spacious home, great for large families or groups visiting Sam Marcos, situated 6 miles (15 minutes) from Old Main. A great location for enjoying the river, offering direct access to a small dock on the river bank. Home is back from the neighbors on a large lot. We had solitude on both the front and back porch areas. The house is an ideal retreat. It is clean and comfortable, and everything we needed was provided. Both drip and k-cup coffee pots are available, so bring pods if that's your preference. The back deck is equipped with three grills: gas, smoker, or charcoal. The host communicated well and provided information on the property, river, and local attractions. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely book again.

Misrepresented and not clean

This home is being misrepresented. The pictures and description need updating. The river access and landing are not as they appear. The kayaks are difficult to get to the river and out of the water due to the steep slope and growth at the waters edge. And the largest kayak was sinking during our short paddle upstream with 2 children in it. I was disappointed to find the home had not been properly cleaned (globs of grease and food on counters, bowls in cabinets had water in them, food and sticky stains on dining table and side tables, dirty rug, mud and dirt on stairs to loft, hair on bath mat) especially after contacting the owner about the most recent poor cleaning comments on VRBO and another rental website prior to our arrival. The bad comments on reviews did not appear until after the refund date had expired. I accepted his explanation of a one time problem after the first bad review but subsequent bad comments on reviews followed. I tried to cancel but he said I would not get a refund. My family will not reserve this property again. Make sure you read the reviews not just look at the star rating.

Beware of Scamming Owner- VRBO needs to do better!

Our recent experience at this VRBO property fell far short of our expectations, based on the advertised pictures and amenities. Upon arrival, it was evident that the property was not as well-maintained as depicted online. However, the most disappointing aspect of our stay was not the property itself but rather the intolerant behavior of the neighbors. On our first night, we had music playing after 10 pm, at a volume we deemed reasonable and which was barely audible from inside the home. Despite this, we were abruptly contacted by the owner the next morning, insisting that we leave immediately due to violating their supposed "quiet time" policy. It was distressing to learn that the decision was solely based on the neighbors' complaint, who, in our view, misrepresented the situation to the owner. What adds to our dismay is that the owner canceled our reservation without any prior warning, forcing us to cut short our vacation plans with our children who were eagerly looking forward to enjoying time by the river. To exacerbate matters, we were denied any refund for the days we had already paid for, despite being given no opportunity to rectify the situation or defend ourselves against the accusations. This experience has left us deeply dissatisfied and feeling unfairly treated. The owner chose to trust the neighbors' unfounded complaint over our account, which calls into question their professionalism and commitment to guest satisfaction. We intend to dispute this as well.

Worst experience of a home rental we’ve had

Our family drives through the gate which the host had given us a code for. The code is of no use because there is no keypad to enter the code, and the gate had not worked in a long time. Like the gate, the garage has no key pad like listed. The garage is unlocked, dirty and messy. Walk up to door, the door handle comes off in my hand. Walk inside, musty, nasty smell greets us. The house was not cleaned since the previous guests!! Trashes are full, the kitchen and bathroom are nasty & not clean, the bedding and wet towels are piled up in various rooms. I try to message the host several times, but the ENTIRE week he doesn’t respond! I call the host number on file with VRBO, and it’s out of service! I sent my oldest to BUY cleaning supplies, and I stayed up way into the night washing bedding and towels to get 5 beds ready for my kids and myself. The west unit ac didn’t work at all; it said “error and no power” so instead of using the entire house liked planned, we used half of it. We were there 5 days, and the owner/ host never got in touch with me, when previously when I had 2 questions prior to booking, he replied within the hour. And on top of that we paid a $300 cleaning fee for me and my kids to clean the entire house. Many more things I could add and pics, but you get the gist! We have rented NUMEROUS houses, and this experience was by far the worst!
