Beautiful Relaxing Home

The pool/spa felt like our own private lagoon surrounded by palm trees, enjoyed watching for birds (bald eagle, osprey, more). Pool was so great that the group often preferred to hang out all day there, rather than the beach/resort activities. Grilled & set up a spread in the pool cabana (loved the ice machine). A very nice full bath in the cabana reduced load on the baths inside the home. Enjoyed outdoor wireless speakers that sync’d to our phone playlists. Elevator operational & a necessity due to one in our party with an injury - also helpful loading/unloading luggage. Lots of space everywhere & all ages enjoyed ping-pong and foosball in the basement. Extra fridge in basement, extra fridge drawers in kitchen. Large living room TV, & the upstairs balcony came to be known as ‘the perch’ among the male adults where they retreated for late-night guy time. Could fit all bikes, gear, vehicles in garage...a large truck, SUV and sedan. Only once we asked for maintenance attention, & it was handled quickly. The things that prevented us from giving 5 stars...the outside is in need of a power wash (webs/dirt) and replacement of some fascia that is beginning to rot. There are light bulbs out in many rooms, including laundry & main bath. The lights in the shallow end of pool & in the spa do not work (the lights in deep end worked). Cabana fan doesn’t work. Knob in cabana shower kept falling off. House was generally clean, but main level bedroom had what appeared to be fur balls and stains in the rug. We are used to ample bathroom towels/washcloths at this price point, but it seemed most had only one set per person. The kitchen sink faucet needs to be replaced. Things that would have been nice to have, but didn’t affect our rating...it would be nice to have table/chairs added to the screen porch & deck to dine al fresco. It would be nice to have a filtered water dispenser, as the sink water is unpalatable & we made repeated trips to pick up bottled water. There were a few pool towels provided in the laundry room, but would’ve been nice to have more, as we were constantly drying or looking for towels. Suggest notes on elevator quirks: sometimes slow be patient, all doors on shaft must be fully closed/latched, what to do if carriage light times out, etc. Lovely location: trails, docks, & expansive bridge over the marsh...a marsh tower nearby. Though possible to bike to beach, must drive for less mobile guests. Overall, a beautiful home & we would stay again!

Deceptive description

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I have rented many different houses on Kiawah over the years and I would call this house "decent." It would benefit from a good sweep of the place with an eye to organization and TLC. The gutters leak outside and some of the furnishings definitely appear to be hand-me-downs while others are higher end & in better shape. They need to add some additional bedding for winter guests as several of us were a bit cold at night under only a light coverlet. All pillows and mattresses should be in zippered cases for better hygiene. The kitchen has a poor layout and is extremely disorganized but we felt it had most everything you would need. We love the Preserve area but this house's view is nothing special. The use of the elevator was a plus--especialy for an elderly family member. Beach gear credit was nice and we enjoyed the rental bikes. We paid the extra to heat the hot tub and that was a definite plus. The pool is beautiful and big and would be a great feature in the summer. Parents need beware that the safety fence/rail does not extend along the back edge, below which is a 15-20 foot drop. There are many gorgeous homes on Kiawah to rent. This house is billed as a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath home and it's technically true. However, what is not made clear and what is very poorly illustrated is the fact that one of the full baths is OUTSIDE in the pool house. This bath is not heated/cooled and is therefore pretty much unusable during cooler months. The upstairs has 3 bedrooms all sharing one very small hall bath. This was a bit of a challenge for our group of 4 adult couples and 3 children. Might work well for a different sort of group but definitely awkward for unrelated adults to share a bathroom. We feel that should be front and center in the description of the home--and likely it should be discounted in terms of rent, as well.

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment in the home. I see that you reached out about a week before your arrival in inquire about the details of the home after booking in early October. At that time, our team did explain further the details of the bathrooms and bedrooms in the home. Our listing description does fully lay out the full bathroom in the outdoor space. Additionally, the 3D virtual tour reflects an accurate depiction of them. There are four bedrooms upstairs with two full bathrooms, one of which is in the bedroom with the king bed. I do not see where any other issues or items were reported during your stay, but have passed your comments along to our property management team to investigate.

Fall Break Fun

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our family has been coming to Kiawah for many years now. I have personally been coming for almost 40 years and this is the first time I have stayed on this part of the island. We loved Preserve and biking around the marshes and seeing all the beautiful wildlife. The house was great for our family. We loved the pool and spa. We cooked at the house a few nights and had what we needed. I would describe the kitchen as the best stocked kitchen but wasn’t the worst. My kids loved the ping pong table in the garage. The bike ride to the beach was about 5 minutes. We would definitely consider staying at 113 Blue Heron again.

Beautiful Home and Location

The house was perfect for our long weekend. Plenty of space for getting together as well as room to spread out and relax. Many commented on how clean it was. If we had to complain about anything it would be there is the minimum available in terms of cooking/backing supplies. Plenty of pots and pans but not a large cookie sheet or pizza pan for pizza. Also not enough coffee mugs for the number of beds. (Hardly a complaint but depending on how your group likes to travel you might want to know in advance.)

Lovely home, but could use a good cleaning

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: 113 Blue Heron is a nice home. The pool is huge and hot tub is nice. The home is in need of a good deep cleaning. The outdoor area needs to be power washed. The back deck, windows and front porch are all dirty and covered with bugs, spider webs and pine needs. The couch cushions in the screened in porch is extremely dirty. The interior of the home is nice. Both king beds and all bed pillows need to be replaced. The kitchen and baths are all in good shape.

Thank you for your feedback. I do see that on your day of arrival, commercial teams were not permitted on the island due to the holiday. They did come to blow off the decks the following Monday. Unfortunately, this time of year, it is difficult to keep falling pine needles and pollen off of out door areas, as they replenish themselves daily. However, we will gladly pass along your comments to our team for future regarding the cushions and furniture mentioned.

Kiawah Review

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: House was great although the pictures on the website presented a much different home than when we arrived. All of the art was removed from the walls, and the furniture was scarce and not at all what was shown when booking the home. There were no chairs in the family room so we had to pull dining room chairs in to sit in.
VrboOwner a répondu le 30 juin 2023
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you did not feel that this home was accurately depicted. The home did recently sell, and the chairs pictured in the living room and den were removed, as well as a few pieces of art work. However, the new owners did rearrange and replace the chairs, ensuring that there were still four in the living room and two in the den along the the respective couches in each room. I am pleased to advise that the home has since also been repainted, and we will be updating pictures in the next couple of weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you again.

Blue Heron is tired

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We arrived at Blueheron simply wanting to enjoy this weekend and especially the back yard. The chairs were broken, unusable and needed to be replaced. The screened porch was so filthy they needed to send a power washer over making it unusable for two days. The kitchen was in complete disorder and needed organizing just to be able to make a simple meal. Towels were old and paper supplies limited. This house could be great. It is for sale but should be pulled from this program if the owners are not willing to do simple upkeep. Half of our time there was wasted unnecessarily. I’ve tried to communicate several times with no success. Such a shame!
VrboOwner a répondu le 30 juin 2023
We are sorry to hear of your continued disappointment with this property and Akers Ellis. From our records, we see that you reported the porch being dirty, mainly the railing and the flooring, and you requested it be cleaned as soon as possible. Our team came to pressure wash the porch, as this was the only method to adequately clean the area. We also address the porch chairs that you reported being worn and unusable. We did not receive further communication of any issues during your stay until late November, almost three months after your departure. Unfortunately, these are not circumstances we are able to address after the fact. We have reported them to our team so we are able to improve upon experiences for guests moving forward. I am pleased to advise that no other guests through the year, both before or after your stay, reported the same issues, so this seems to have been an isolated incident.

A little tired

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Houses on Kiawah need a lot of upkeep and this one could stand a little TLC. The bones of the house are good but it is looking tired. The front steps have peeling paint and lights that seem like they are falling out. When we arrived, the house had a musty smell. The washer had water remaining in it which appeared to be the cause of the smell. The washer was replaced mid-week and apparently the problem had been discovered before we arrived but there was no notice of the issue given to us and that it was going to be replaced. When I reported the washer problem, Akers acted as if they had never heard of the problem. Many of the TV’s did not seem to work. House would be great if some work was done to freshen it up. Finally, it is represented that the house has a $300 bike/beach item credit. You need to spend $75 to get the credit, so it is really a $225 credit. I don’t think it should be advertised as a $300 credit.
VrboOwner a répondu le 30 juin 2023
Thank you for your feedback, and we apologize for any inconveniences you encountered during your vacation. We can address the maintenance items you mentioned with the owner to correct them for future guests. In regards to the washer, it appeared to be failing, so we worked with the owner to order a new one and schedule the installation. We apologize for any miscommunication regarding the issue but hope your family appreciated having the new washer for part of your stay. In regards to the beach gear credit, your reservation was made in July 2018, before the implementation of the beach gear benefit. Guests, including you, who booked prior to the benefit being available were given the option to pay a discounted $75 fee to receive the same credit amount. Again, we apologize for any confusion related to the beach gear credit. We hope these items did not detract from your overall enjoyment of your family vacation.
