Perfect little getaway

We loved how private it felt while being so close to the village of Saranac! My only suggestion is maybe advising people to bring a garden cart/cart with wheels, the packing and unpacking process was a little daunting with the car being parked a short walk from the lean-to.

Adirondack Weekend with Friends

The site itself was very nice. Beautiful scenery, right on the water, access to a dock. The lean-too, shower, and outhouse were great amenities. However, please keep in mind that this site is owned by a larger cabin company, Cochan’s Cabins. Some of the information that is specific to the Cabins is not communicated until after you book (ex: check in is only from 2pm-7pm, the dock is shared with someone who parks their boat and walks through your campsite, the canoe/kayak rentals are $45 a day, the pet deposit is not refundable, there is another cabin right next to the lean-too, and there is a noise policy apparently). We loved the site but the property manager Margie and her husband were incredibly rude to us about our noise. We did have a generator (which I guess we weren’t supposed to have but never told we couldn’t) and Bluetooth speaker going during the middle of the day and the evening but only until 10pm. They demanded we shut it off and kept the sound down. They told us it was “too much” even though there were no people around us (the site near us was empty for the weekend fortunately). You could not hear us from the road, only from our site. I think they just saw a young group of people and assumed we were partying and being obnoxious, which we were not. It was very disrespectful and really gave us a really bad impression. Personally, I feel like the site is great, but with the price and property manager, I would recommend finding a different site if you’re looking for a fun weekend with friends that won’t have someone come over to your site and say you are “too much”

Strong recommendation for primitive camping

Location right on water, beautiful. Heavy power boat traffic at times, no swimming at site since water too shallow and mucky. Wonderful dock for small boat launch, star gazing, with morning shade. Lean-to fits 2 sleepers and gear, no bug problem mid-August. Adjacent tent site possible. Outhouse is pleasant, hot shower wonderful. 2-minute walk from parking spot to site. Owner available and very helpful. Great week spent here.

Wilderness lean-to

A traditional Adk lean to that is close enough to car camp and has a sink and shower. Waterfront site with lots of handy canoe routes nearby.

Awesome Waterfront View!

Easy to access, Margie was awesome, and the space was beautiful! I thought it was a great price for the location and access to running water. It was just a drive down the road from the town, which had grocery and restaurants. 10/10 would stay again and recommend!

Gorgeous spot! Nice site, everything we needed.

This place met our needs well, I had 2 teenage girls and I wanted them to have a wilderness experience but knew they would not agree to come without a hot shower. My husband and I slept in a camper on the road which is a short distance away. It's a really beautiful site but they refused to use the shower anyway because it faces a cabin that is really close by and there is no privacy wall around the shower. The sink is also impractically small. For the price, the shower house should be improved, with a privacy screen and the sink should be under a roof and larger, that is why there are 4 stars instead of 5. It was interesting to have piping hot water in such a small sink - and I used the shower but had to dress in the wet inside without being able to sit down - this is really uncomfortable. Maggie was really nice and we had a good stay and might book again in future.

Perfect camping retreat!

We loved our stay here, so peaceful! Will probably be planning another trip soon! The showers were great, and having a sink with hot water was awesome. Our dog loved it, and is now properly pooped.

Good experience - description was accurate

My boyfriend and I stayed in the lean-to for one night at the beginning of October and it was perfect. I was a little skeptical because of a previous review about the long walk and privacy. However, it was only a one minute walk from the car to the lean-to (we timed it) and the people in the cabin behind it kept to themselves and we didn't have a problem with them (also, it does mention in the description that there is a nearby cabin). It should be noted that the truck you see in the picture is actually the neighbors truck and that is not where you will park, but again, it's really not a far walk. The fire pit was nice since it was a little chilly the night we stayed. There was a small dock that you could walk out onto and it seems like you would've been able to take out a kayak but the water looked a little muddy so I would wear water shoes. The outhouse is exactly what you would expect an outhouse to be. We didn't utilize the shower because it was too cold outside and we were only there for one night. There is an outlet right behind the lean-to that we used to blow up our mattress. We met with the owners son and he was very friendly and showed us to the site. The roof is metal and there is a tree above it that was dropping seeds or something on the roof sporadically which could be annoying but really not too bad. Overall, good experience and I would recommend staying here!

Central Location for Paddlers - Nice to Have a Shower - Not as Private as We Believed

Four of us rented the lean-to for 4 days. We take an annual Adirondack camping trip every summer, always off the grid, usually car camping in NYS campgrounds. The goal is to get away, unplug, and commune with nature. The lean-to is at a lovely location, right on the Saranac Lake chain with miles of kayaking opportunities. Loons, herons and ducks were everywhere. A short paddle away, there are primitive campsites on the NYS owned end of Kiwassa Lake. This is where we spent most of the days so we could swim, as that is not possible at the lean-to site. Per request, we emailed our arrival time. We arrived exactly on time but no one was at the B&B and the door was locked. We hung out for some time with what we presumed was the owners dog (who later visited our campsite, relieved herself, and left). Eventually a gentleman showed up asking if we had been checked in. He assured us that the owner would be by shortly. He was able to access the B&B, took our deposit, and showed us to the lean-to. We parked our cars and unpacked. It is not noted in the description, but there is a significant walk down a path from the car to the site. Be prepared with wheeled coolers, etc. As we always do, regardless of weather or circumstances, we had a great time. The dock looked recently built. It would accommodate a few kayaks, but unfortunately the water level was so low it barely came to the end of the dock. Even in high water it would be important to note that this is a very muddy spot and walking out into the water would be ill advised. We were able to drop our kayaks into the mud from the dock, jump in, and push out into the channel with our paddles. A motorized boat was at the dock and the gentleman who showed us to the site noted that it belonged to their neighbor. We later saw the neighbor and his friends, on multiple occasions, as they came back and forth through our campsite. He and his friends showed up the first time well after dark and throughly frightened us. While we knew someone docked their boat there, we were not told to expect them coming through at all hours and with no warning. I admit it detracted from the site as we felt we had no privacy. The fact that there is a cabin immediately behind the lean-to was also a detraction. Luckily the folks in the cabin kept mostly to themselves but it felt as though we were camping in their front yard. For the price, privacy, and dock issues we will not likely return. Regardless, it is a beautiful location.

The scenery is classic Adirondack beauty

Lovely people who own the cabins are welcoming upon check-in. They know the way around the area and can help out with just about anything. We had a battery die on one of our motorcycles and they were able to help me put a charge back on it to get back home safely. I will be staying again next year and booking early to make sure I can!

À propos de l’hîte

HÎte : Marjorie Cochran

Image de profil de l’hîte
We own several properties in the area and this cabin is one of our favorites. We have lived in the Adirondacks since 1991 but have been part-time residents since the 1960s. We even attended the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid! We can offer suggestions for activities unless you simply want to rest and relax.

Voici pourquoi l’hĂŽte a choisi cet hĂ©bergement

If you enjoy camping, but want hot water / shower close by, this is a great property. It's partially secluded (one cabin nearby) and right on the water.

This is the most scenic area in the east! It is an easy place to rest, relax and enjoy life at a slower pace. Kiwassa Lake is an idyllic and quiet lake and most guests return year after year to get away from the hustle and bustle of a faster pace.

Often guests will take in a sighting of our lake loon and its beautiful calls. Other guests have said they have seen eagles, deer, fish jumping, wild types of birds, etc

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

While at the lean-to, guests enjoy bird watching, reading and traveling by boat to the nearby Village of Saranac Lake. Often guests will take in a sighting of the lake's loon and its beautiful calls. Other guests have said they have seen eagles, deer, fish jumping, wild types of birds, etc

This is NOT a party site. Quiet guests are welcome.
