Magical vintage cabin straight out of a Wes Anderson film. Cosy, organized, curated and with very clear directions.. Bed could be a bit firmer, but hey, it’s a movie set and very authentic in a world where everything is synthetic and drywall. Enjoy the vibe.

Very rustic and exactly as described. If you love camping/glamping, this is for you! The outdoor shower was lovely. The lake was very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed unplugging and relaxing, playing croquet, scrabble and cards.

The cottage is, as advertised, vintage 50s in decor. We loved it. The setting is beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and utensils. We could have used one or two more fans, but we stayed during a heat wave. Most visitors probably won't have this problem.

Peace and quiet
So peaceful and a little slice of heaven! Absolutely loved the cottage decor—very retro and loved reminiscing and explaining retro items to my grandson. Was like a scavenger hunt… just when you thought you saw everything, you would come across another hidden treasure. We even enjoyed dinner out on the floating dock one evening and enjoyed watching the pair of swans.

Wonderful Weekend
It was great to return again to Inez’s vintage cabin in the woods. Although it was chilly, she had laid a fire for our arrival and it quickly took the chill off.
The beds/pillows were very comfy.
Kitchen more than adequate for breakfast cooking.
We love it here and plan to return in the spring 2020

OK. After 24 years of indulging my amusement with the original “old-fashioned” bed-spring that came with the 1950s cabin’s single bed, I have removed it! The newer mattress, now firmly on planks, makes the bed less noisy, less bouncy and a reformed delight for sleeping.
Adam, your appreciation of my cabin except for that bed was the final straw. Sorry kids.

We are very dissatisfied with what we found there - the cabin and the place actually look different
the cabin is dirty, there are cobwebs everywhere, the smell in the cabin is unpleasant, I had to wash the dishes we used several times to get rid of the smell. The refrigerators are dirty and there are unused products left .The chairs by the lake are covered in rust. Poison ivy is around the cabin We are not enjoy our vacation☹️

Very Rustic Cabin In The Woods
If you want privacy this is the place! We loved the quiet and tranquility.
It is extremely rustic. The “on demand” heater needs to be repaired. We were boiling water for baths… no shower.
Also, replacement of both mattress would not hurt either. The rolling to the centre was not optional.
We loved being close to Stissing House and Champetre for 2 nights dining out, with only a 3 minute drive back home.
In conclusion, if you enjoy camping this is your quaint, peaceful little cabin with plenty of hiking to be enjoyed close by.

Both quality mattresses are new this year. The beds, as described, have old-fashioned springs meant to enhance the vintage experience. If you had texted with your “water on demand” concern, I would have had a few tips for hot. Also described and pictured, the shower for my retro styled retreat is outside with hot/cold faucets in a fern and forest setting.
I consider my cabin a purposely unique and well curated experience. Described as a 50's vintage styled cabin, it is certainly a few more stars above camping out.

vintage cabin in a beautiful property
We stayed in the cabin for 9 nights; and had a great time!
The cabin is next to the lake; there is a road in between the cabin & the water, but the road is not busy and pretty quiet, especially at night time. We enjoyed canoeing, fishing (so many hungry fish!), and hiking (the trail to Fire Tower was beautiful - highly recommended!! The Pond trail was good but we were chased by thousands of mosquitos!!). We went to Taconic State Park for swimming. The neighbors were pretty close to each other, but all seemed very friendly and respectful; and very quiet.
The cabin is cozy and vintage. The bed was a bit uncomfortable but not complaining; it was one of the things that we expected. Inez provided more than enough supplies and we were very grateful. Using the hot water was a bit tricky, but we found a way (starting hot water from the sink helped the hot water kick in). We did enjoy the outdoor shower and saw many deers!
Thank you Inez for letting us staying at your precious property.

Glad the fish were biting!
The hot water on demand system is a bit tricky, but can get very hot. You have to keep the outside shower hot water turned off at faucet, not just the in line lever, to get instant hot water inside. I can often diagnose any problems with a quick text :-)

Quiet stay, little tight for four people
We stayed at Inez’ cabin over Fourth of July weekend and loved getting out on the lake, using the fire pit and grill, and relaxing on the hammock.
Kitchen is well stocked with cookware, outdoor shower is great, no issues with the plumbing. We also were very appreciative to be able to bring our dog. The cabin is a short walk from Stissing Mtn, which was a fun hike, and a private lake beach (though the swimming area is very small and they didn’t let us float outside of it).
A few things to be aware of...the cabin is on the opposite side of Lake Rd from the water, so passing cars break up the ambiance a bit when you’re trying to relax on the front lawn. The cabin is quaint and comfortable, but furniture is pretty aged. For what we were paying (a little higher for a holiday weekend, I’m sure), I think it'd be reasonable to expect newer mattresses and a more comfortable couch and reading chair. The couple who stayed on the trundle bed in the back said it was a little cramped. Also there are no doors, so best to travel with people you’re comfortable with.
Overall, it’s probably best fit for up to 2 people and a bit overpriced, but we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

I adequately describe my retro styled cabin on VRBO site and repeated the sleeping options when I responded to your email.
The single bed mattress was purchased new 2 years ago and slept on infrequently.
The under the bed trundle pop-up is what it is.
The furniture is of the period original to the 1950s cabin and I have replaced cushions and upholstered them in vintage fabric.
I feel like you didn't understand or appreciate the experience I am offering.
There are two public swimming places on Stissing Lake, both with access and pictured on the local map I provide. Lake swimmers chose the one at south end. Families chose the beach with lifeguard, dock and restricted swim area.

A lovely little getaway cabin!
We rented this great lake cabin for the 2024 Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck. While the location was peaceful and secluded, the fairgrounds commute was quick and easy (25 min +/-). So perfect that I've already booked it for next year.
The cabin itself was cute and well-thought out, with beautiful views of the lake and fall colors. I'd describe the décor as fun vintage, yet truly cozy and comfortable, with lots of homey touches. The wood stove was efficient, with plenty of well seasoned wood for fast & easy fire starting. There were plenty of places to sit and relax, including a table that seats 4 and lots of fun outdoor options. The antique iron tub is great, and a bathroom heater makes it cozy in there.
The kitchen was good, with full sized appliances that were nice and clean (coffee pot, fridge, & stove). We loved the large farmhouse sink; and the cupboards were well-stocked with dishes, bowls, assorted glasses, and cups. Basically, everything I needed was easy to find. There was a well-seasoned cast iron griddle pan and most of the cookware was Le Creuset. Plus - there was a useable sharp knife! I often bring one since rentals can have questionable knives - so this was a pleasant surprise! The 'broken dishes' backsplash was simply delightful, as were the many nice touches throughout.
There were even pumpkins and mums decorating the front of the house and the dock! We truly enjoyed it all and highly recommend Inez's little cabin!

Our AMAZING host
I found my Aunt deceased unexpectedly and we wanted to honor her wishes. She was cremated in SC and wanted to be returned home and buried with her Mother (my Grandma) in NY. My daughter struggles with anxiety and has Gertrude, her ESA. We needed to find a property that allowed dogs, had the availability on short notice and was located near our remaining family and future business in NY. This property checked every single box! We drove my Aunt up overnight and arrived a bit earlier then planned. (Not sure if it was my lead foot or less traffic/construction then usual). Our lovely host responded to our inquires quickly. She was very accurate in her description of this beautiful lakeside property. I grew up in a lakeside community so this reminded me of home. It was awesome to be able to share these memories with my kids. My Aunt, in a similar home as my childhood home so my kids got a real representation of those memories. The day of the services was very emotional and the weather was terrible. It was cold, rainy and the wind was crazy. We came back to the property, lit a fire in the wood stove and finally took a deep breath. Normally, we would head back down south pretty quickly. We stayed and enjoyed this home. It’s the perfect representation of lakeside living. Dressed beautifully in a vintage style, we used the radio (which was perfectly tuned to an oldies station) and chatted with the neighbors abt the community. Thank you for making a terrible loss more bearable 💜

Idyllic cottage
This adorable cottage was well stocked with everything we needed: indoor and outdoor firewood, fans, blankets, games. We went to the very nearby beach, played croquet and parcheesi, relaxed in the hammock and had dinner at the picnic table. I found the bed and pillows very comfortable. We heard owls. Not enough time to use the canoe, but would definitely stay again! Thank you for a delightful weekend to de-stress!

Had a great time.
This is an as advertised cottage. It is comfortable and homey. There are neighbors close by but you hardly see them. The only complaint I have the owner can not do anything about. The lake road has a lot of speeders and it felt unsafe to walk it. If you are going in the summer bring a fan for the living area, the ceiling fan does not work to cool you down.

Lake Front Living
Rustic, charming, cozy - the Little Green Cabin is the perfect lakefront getaway. This was my 3rd time at the cabin and post-covid quarantine, it was the only place I wanted to go to escape NYC for the first time in 18-months. It felt familiar, safe, and the best place to vacation without having to go very far.
The property's structure - floorboards, ceiling beams, lighting, doors, and windows provide rustic charm while the carefully chosen decor, accessories and colors create a cozy, welcoming retreat.
The location is prime! You’re a quick drive to other great towns, like Rhineback, or chill on an Adirondack chair by the lake.
I can’t recommend this property enough!

À propos de l’hôte
Hôte : Inez Foose
I am an artist -muralist, decorative painter, set designer- living in Westbeth Artist's Housing in NYC. I had the opportunity to create the mural frieze honoring past librarians in the newly built Pine Plains Library on Main Street.
Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement
I acquired this cabin from it's original owner who grew up around these lakes in the summer. I was thrilled that it had never been 'upgraded'. I refurbished it while trying to keep true to a vintage 50's lake cabin. I still enjoy combing the local yard sales for items that belong to this venue.
Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique
Lovely view of lake from front room and also thru the interior window while laying in bed. The sunrise over the lake can be glorious. In the spring and early summer, the frogs croaking and in the fall, geese honking serenade the otherwise quiet setting.
