Dining out is a convenient option, too—from your location in north Lincoln City you’re an easy walk or drive to lots of restaurants, from beer and burgers at McMenamins to world-class seafood at the nearby Kyllo's Seafood and Grill. The two bedrooms have ocean views and you’ll be lulled to sleep by the sound of surf. An upstairs loft has a lovely curved wood ceiling, sofa seating and another flat-screen TV for added entertainment. There’s even nightlife five blocks away at the Chinook Winds Casino! If I were VRBO, I’d get this Meredith property off my webpage. It is FAR from how the photos display it and once I booked through VRBO, I was contacted by Meredith Properties who actually own or manages (mismanages) the property. Too many shortcomings to list. I think the only completely true statement in the description is the view—it’s great. Notice how there are few pictures of the interior… there’s a reason! No idea how any reputable company would ever admit that they are associated with the house without a BIG disclaimer helping the public know why they’ve chosen not to update the house in 50 years. Perhaps plan to wreck it soon and rebuild it so don’t want to put a nickel into it? Embarrassing.

Relaxing getaway

Everything was exactly like the pictures. The house was clean and the property manager was very responsive. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could ever need which was nice so we didn't have to eat out every meal.

Great beach access and wonderful view.

We really enjoyed our brief overnight stay. This would be a terrific place to watch a winter storm roll in. And the beach that you get to so easily is gorgeous.

It would have been nice to have instructions for tv. That was frustrating. Maybe a few more products such as shampoo, etc. pretty bare minimums.But we made a run to store and got what we needed. We all enjoyed our stay and the property because I realized I was getting an older house and it was rustic and cozy.I wish checkouts weren’t so early!! Most are 11:00 am or 12:00 noon that I’ve stayed at. And a 3:00 pm checkin would be nice. But overall, we had a good time.Dishwasher and fridge could use some repair.

Rating against price is 5 stars. The place is severely not level as in about 1.5 foot drop or more across the house. The place is a little run down. The place was clean and as advertised with great location and beach. So I got what I expected and paid for. Added bonus with unlevel floors you don’t even need that first glass of wine as you will have that tipsy feeling when you first walk in the door. Instant vacation feeling from the first step.

Fun beach spot

Stayed for guys trip. Overall space and location was great. Main window could be replaced and there is a slant to the place. Plenty of room.

Lovely home

We enjoyed our night at By George. The home was clean. The beds comfy and the coast was just a few steps down the stairs from the home. My family enjoyed the rest and fun. We wished we had another day to fly the kites...

Wonderful views

House is older (there were some cool historical photos of it on the walls) but we found it to be a charming and cozy place. Amazing views of the beach and sunsets, and a path straight down to the beach from the property. The only downside was the kitchen pots/pans really were in rough shape and need to be replaced (nonstick coating was really chipped).

One night stay in Lincoln city

We came to enjoy the beach on a sunny day. The view from the window was spectacular and basic facilities were all present. Although it was a good stay but the property could definitely upgrade some things like VCR player had no available videos to play. Also, Chromcast TV would have been nice. Overall great stay 😇

Beach Getaway

View was amazing and a great place to relax. The twin beds downstairs are hard as rock, but Bed upstairs very comfortable. Stairs are steep and recommend caution for those with mobility concerns. Living space very comfortable and and so nice having a fire in the evening. Enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Fabulous ocean views

So very cold and rainy that we spent most of our time in the house but the views and cozy feeling of the house made it worthwhile. Spacious home with a kitchen that was very well stocked. We found that the upstairs bedroom had very steep stairs so we slept in the twin beds most of the time, and yes, the house is slanted. Overall we had a wonderful time there (we are in our 70s, that explains our problem with the steep stairs).

Vintage, Direct Access to Beach

Meredith Lodging was great and our stay by the ocean was just what we were looking for. The vintage property is authentically imperfect and seems to be hanging on to other eras in bits and pieces. Think arts & crafts rocking chairs juxtaposed with giant, impossible to clean, sectional furniture to seat many more than our little trio of a family. The panoramic view was obstructed during our stay (dirty & broken windows), but the steep stairs down to the beach got us front row seats to the feature film: Pacific Ocean. Book this one for the beach access, not its other amenities.

This is the first bad experience we have had with a VRBO property. The issue was not with VRBO but with the property management agency. The second night of our stay, the lights kept going out and coming on while some flickered. The microwave had power but it wouldn't heat anything. The stove alarm would go off and the read out would say "Bad Line". We called the property management agency and explained, but they just wrote it off as the storm that was coming in. We told them we did not feel safe, but they would not work with us on getting another property or a motel for the night. We called the VRBO emergency number and they said they would reimburse us for a night's stay. We found a nearby motel and got settled in after midnight. The next day we went back to the property after breakfast. Maintenance had been there, but the lights were still going out and flickering back on. We called them and they agreed to send send another maintenance supervisor. After showing him all that was going on he agreed that there was an internal electrical issue and assured us he would recommend a full refund. We had to go back to the motel and move to a room with two king beds and a shared bathroom. We will never use a Meredith Properties property again. They were uncooperative and unwilling to help us. We are thankful that we at least got a refund, but it made a wonderful vacation into a large hassle.

Far less than expected

The biggest disappointment was the state of the windows…I wish I could post pictures to show how the view was obscured. We went to open the dishwasher and the front of it fell off. The faucet in the kitchen squirted water whenever we turned it on. The oven took a very long time to preheat. The house is more slanted than the house that Jack built. It was musty smelling beyond what a candle’s fragrance could disguise. The location and beach access was great & the company was wonderful…we made it work, but we were definitely disappointed for the price point this place rented for and will not stay there again.

READ BEFORE RENTING

The website photos do not represent the condition of this house.We have delayed filing this review as we have been attempting resolution via case numbers for both VRBO and Meredith Lodging.This includes a letter with an itemized list to “contact owner” through VRBO, as suggested by VRBO case email.The response was a canned statement of - let us know what you enjoyed and what we can do to improve. We have over 20 photos of all items listed below. Cons. All west windows have the translucency of wax paper. Some have a 1” vertical border along the edge where glass is clear and you can see the extreme difference in clarity.Large crack with blue tape across middle window.Downstairs bathroom shower curtain had a 2” strip of pink mildew across bottom.Sink does not drain. Kitchen wall next to stove is plywood with grease stains soaked into wood. We did not use the stove or oven. Downstairs: bedroom floor entry has worn duct tape on threshold, peeling back and very dirty. Upstairs: bathroom had a towel wadded up into a dried ball on the windowsill above the toilet.Toilet requires plunging to flush (liquids only).Upstairs bedroom window shade is completely broken and looks like a wild animal tried to escape through the window.Windows do not have screens.Dirt and what appears to be a 4” mold strip at window opening. None of the issues listed appear to be newly developed. Pros.The beds were comfortable and in good condition. We did not use the fireplace due to warm weather.
