Berated for getting to the home 1 hr early after a 12 hour drive, we thought if we checked we may be able to get in just like other hotels, campgrounds, or rentals we've stayed, but no. We called maintenance when we found mold covered shower curtains, among other evidence of bare-minimum cleaning efforts. My son looked around, scared of the prospect of staying there, so I called the number given to see if there were other accommodations that could be made for us. I was told only the homeowner could assist us, and that we were there a full hour early and did not give them time to clean everything (even though check out is 6 hours before check in here). When I called the owner, he also berated us for being there early so we quickly left and told him we would come back at the right time. When we came back they had changed out the shower curtains for new ones and put a few towels in the closets but everything else remained the same filth. My husband pulled up sediment from the pool that included a used bandaid. When asking the owner for assistance in making our vacation work, his only recommendation was to have the same maintenance (2 people) come back and attempt to clean again. Not wanting to waste anymore of our vacation time, I tried to explain that I would rather clean the house myself, and was yelled at by the homeowner as he explained his problems of being so far away and not knowing the quality of maint/cleaning service he was paying for.
