Michael Cook is the Principal Architect at Cook Architecture, a Northern Virginia-based architecture and interior design firm. He and his team have designed more than 150 residential, faith-based, and community projects in Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, California, Arizona, and Maine. Many of the Virginia and Maryland projects are located in the mid-century modern neighborhoods of Hollin Hills, Holmes Run Acres, Pine Spring, Hammond Wood, Hammond Hill, and Takoma Park.

This mid-century modern house, initially designed by architect Charles Goodman and fully renovated by our architecture firm, is full of glass, wood, and brick. The home was purposefully sited on the lot in a specific way that creates privacy, maximizes sun exposure, and preserves trees and native plants. We are big fans of Goodman's, and we have renovated over 35 of his houses over the years. Meant to be a small starter home when it was built in the 50s, the house's 900 sq.ft. feels simultaneously warm and comfortable while modern, open, and airy.

Our property stands out for its architectural significance, and beyond that, the back courtyard is a truly exceptional feature. It offers an unparalleled sense of privacy, creating a haven of tranquility just moments away from the bustling energy of DC. This courtyard isn't just an outdoor space; it feels like an extension of the home, an additional room where guests can unwind and connect with the serene surroundings.
