My wife and I along with our daughter spent a great week here. The two car carport meant that we always had a parking spot for our rental car and my daughter's Toyota. When our son and his soon-to-be wife came over for meals -- including Thanksgivng -- there was room on the street in front of our carported cars for their car. And more importantly the kitchen was well equipped to prepare all the treats that made for our Thanksgivng meal.
The ping pong table on the outside porch was great for working off the extra calories after the meal. I also loved having breakfast out there.
I wished I could take the king-sized bed home with me... It was so comfortable. We used the large coffee table in the living room for our jigsaw puzzle and the Roku/cable TV setup was great! I loved the simplicity of it and the variety of choices. I also brought my password for my Sling account and enjoyed (not quite the right word here) watching my Washington Wizards get beaten by the Lakers and two nights later by the Clippers.
An architectural book in the house was valuable in cluing us into the homes in the area that have been designed by some of the best architects. We found that there are tours of such homes readily available, but we simply enjoyed viewing various homes on our own as we came and went and as we walked in the neighborhood. (One house with much wrought iron even incuded an outside walkway for their cats!)
For me with my Mideast interest, discovering the nearby Holy Land Exhibition was a great find. I also walked to Whole Foods, CVS and twice walked the 2 miles or so around the Silver Lake Reservoir. We were interested to learn that in the near future, the rerervoir will become much more accessible and lake-like as plans are being finalized to convert it to more of a park.
I was interested in noting the vegetation in the area generally particularly including a neighbor's persimmon tree and the large mature Kapok tree in the front yard of your property and a Kapok seedling in the back.. (Truth be told, we couldn't resist bringing a few seeds back with us to start our own tree.) The lemon tree in the back came in handy when we neglected to get the lemon we needed for one recipe, and we marvelled at but didn't sample the many olives that are already growing on the five recently planted olive trees in the backyard.
In short, we greatly enjoyed our brief stay in this wonderful Silver Lake abode! Thanks!
