Cigiano di Sotto is a good-value, rustic Tuscan farmhouse offering two apartments rented together exclusively, ideal for families or groups travelling together. The property sleeps up to 12 guests, has a large private swimming pool, and is within easy walking distance of the medieval village of Castiglione di Garfagnana, with restaurants, cafés, shops, and a weekly market.

Set on a working farm in the Garfagnana countryside, the location is quiet and peaceful, but not isolated. You get the space and views of rural Tuscany, with village life just a short walk away.

The farmhouse is divided into two separate three-bedroom apartments, each with:

- 2 double bedrooms
- 1 twin bedroom
- A modern bathroom
- Open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area, fully equipped for self-catering

The apartments are simple and practical, making this an excellent choice for guests looking for authentic Tuscany at a sensible price.

Outside, there is a large courtyard with barbecue facilities and plenty of space for eating outdoors. A shaded dining area looks out towards the surrounding mountains. The private swimming pool (14m x 5m) has a wide sun terrace and open views towards the Apuan Alps.

Please note: the pool is located approximately 30 metres from the apartments, positioned to the side of the main farmhouse rather than directly beside them.

The owner, Sergio, and his family live and work on the farm and are nearby if needed, while still respecting guests’ privacy.

Beautiful place and wonderful hosts

Me and my family had a really great time here, really nice house with beautiful views and walking distance to wonderful medieval village. Delicious restaurants close by. Arianna and Sergio are warm and caring hosts. When we arrived and found out that the pool was closed we were so disappointed, and then they bought a small pool for the children, very kind Note that their big pool isn’t open until June. The trafficked road is quite close, and there are some unprojected height differences without fence (if travelling with small children). Overall a lovely place in the Toscana paradise🤩

Our Amazing Stay in Tuscany!

The location was perfect. We fell in love with Castiglione de Garfagnana and the view from our accommodation was spectacular. We also loved the sounds of the church and cow bells! The accommodation was perfect for our needs. We enjoyed daily walks to the village for morning cappuccini and exploring the local villages and countryside by car. The train station in Castelnuovo made it convenient for day trips to Lucca and Florence. The notes provided by Friends of Tuscany were really helpful. The host family was extremely responsive and hospitable. We would love to return!

Tolle Lage, Ort mit Burg, Bäcker, Pizzeria in wenigen Schritten zu erreichen. Leben auf dem Bauernhof mit Kühen und entsprechendem Geruch, Fliegen und Bremsen. Preis Leistung dennoch gut.

Superschöne Aussicht

Das Ferienhaus liegt direkt an der Hauptstrasse und auf einem mit Traktoren befahrenen Bauernhofes. War nicht schlimm, aber man sollte es wissen. Die Wohnungen waren sauber und in gutem Zustand. Ein paar mehr Tassen im Schrank wären nett gewesen. An allen Fenstern waren Fliegengitter, was wir sehr geschätzt haben. Von dort aus hat man eine wunderschöne Aussicht in die Apuanischen Alpen. Die Kinder hatten viel Spaß am Pool. Wir können die Unterkunft auf jeden Fall empfehlen.

Découverte de la Toscane Sauvage

Pour l ensemble du groupe cet endroit a été une très agréable et surprenante découverte : emplacement du gîte magnifique, prestations à la hauteur, exploration de la campagne, des montagnes, des villes, villages et même de gouffres comme antipastis des richesses que cette belle région peut offrir. Assurément un goût de reviens-y ! Chacun a pu y vivre sa propre Toscane, à l'image des mille et unes couleurs de cette région 🌈

Sehr schöner Aufenthalt. Für kleine Kinder ist das steile Gelände eher schwierig. Positiv ist der etwas abseits gelegene Pool. Lebensmittel vom Hof sind nicht erhältlich. Freundliche Vermieter.

Excellent séjour de 2 semaines , le cadre est magnifique avec vue sur les montagnes. Seul 3 chambres donnent sur le paysage , les autres sur le parking …..🙁 Attention ⚠️ le chauffage gaz n’est pas compris ( 7€ + ou - le m3) 😟 Les proprio sont très gentils.😊 Les matelas sont très moyens (trop souples) La connection internet wifi est inexistante ☹️ Nous étions 5 et avons passés un bon séjour malgré ces détails .

Mooie locatie in noord toscane

Geweldige 2 week gehad lekker gefietst op de racefiets met m'n vrouw. Kids lekker in het grote en schone zwembad. Super mooi uitzicht. Heerlijk gegeten in castiglione. Lucca bezocht mooie stad. Dagje strand ook prima te doen.

La vue de la maison , le village et les environs sont très beaux. Le Petit café le matin au village est très agréable. La piscine est très grande mais pas situé tout près de la maison. Il y a la route principale juste derrière la maison. Les chambres situées de ce côté ont pas mal de bruits. Il manque pas mal d'ustensiles dans la cuisine. Nous pensions ( comme c'est indiqué dans le dossier) pouvoir recevoir oeufs et lait de la ferme mais ce n'est pas le cas. Il y a des vaches juste à côté de la maison. Ce n'est pas dérangeant mais il y avait énormément de mouches.

We were bowled over by the fantastic views from our Tuscan Villa. We never tired of the scenery.

We rented the property with my cousin, we live in the west of Ireland, they live in London. Both of us have teenage children. We adored the medieval village and the surrounding countryside. We even made it to the Mediterranean for an afternoon. We swam in the pool, in local lakes and in the fabulous waterfall which is located in the village. The house is well equipped and we were able to cook large family meals and spend hours dining outside admiring the Tuscan countryside. We ate in the pizzeria which is just across the road, the food was excellent and good value. On the evening we arrived to everyone’s delight there was an open air opera in the village square. The location of this villa is very special. We loved our stay and would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Wunderbar

Die zwei Apartments, die über einander liegen, eignen sich wunderbar für befreundete oder verwandte Gruppen. Ansonsten ist es in der unteren Wohnung womöglich etwas hellhörig. Die Eigentümer im Nachbarhaus sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, der Pool bringt Freude für Groß und Klein, die Landschaft und das Städtchen sind herrlich.

Traumhafte Aussicht

WIr hatten 10 erholsame Tage mit traumhafter Aussicht. Die Freundlichkeit der Vermieter und aller Einheimischen denen wir begegnet sind, war auffallend freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Region ist noch italienisch mit überschaubarem Tourismus.

Spacious and clean

Nice holiday home with large rooms and great views over the Garfagnana valley. The pool is huge and clean. It’s a working farm with all of its charm, including tasting of fresh milk from the cows in the stable next to the house. The hosts are very kind and managed all of our requests with a smile. The WiFi is suboptimal, but the cellular network is fine, I.e. we used Mobile data to get a good Internet connection. Shopping is easy in the in Coop (8min) and markets in the nearby villages. The area is splendid for road biking!

Prima verzorgde huisjes in prachtige omgeving

Twee nette appartementen met prachtig uitzicht en heerlijk zwembad. Schoon en prima verzorgd. Eigenaren wonen op hetzelfde terrein, maar dat is zeker niet storend. Het geheel is op een boerderij met koeien, dit geeft wel veel vliegen en soms wat boerderijlucht. Prima uitvalsbasis om de prachtige omgeving te ontdekken. Verhuurder geeft handige tips hiervoor.

Great vacation in the beautiful Tuscany

Visited here with my extended family. Cigiano di Sotto was a perfect place for us all. The house was spacious enough for 12 people as it's actually 2 apartments rented together, so lots of space for all of us including 2 dining patios! The views from the house and pool are amazing. The pool was really big and great for swimming lengths as well as play. There was plenty of pool furniture for us all. The lovely village of Castiglione is only a 2 minute walk and there are 3 restaurants and bars in the village (there's literally a pizzeria 30s walk from the house). This was a massive bonus. Silvano's bar was our favourite. It's also a shop so we rarely had to use the car to go anywhere. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to return!

Idyllisch, ländlich, rundum sorglos

Die Ferienwohnung ist fantastisch gelegen. Toller Blick in das Tal von Balkon und Pool aus. Die vorbeiführende Straße stört nicht. Die Ausstattung der Wohnung ist sehr gut und alles war sehr sauber. Das Dorf mit sehr guten und netten kleinen Lädchen (Gemüse, Brot, Wein ...) ist in < 10 min fußläufig zu erreichen. Die Umgebung bietet viele Möglichkeiten. Für Kinder gibt es rund um die Ferienwohnung genügend Platz und durch den Bauernhof einiges zu erkunden. Die Besitzer des kleinen Bauernhofs sind sehr nett (Verständigung auf italienisch). Fliegen und Bremsen sind natürlich da, aber bei unserem Aufenthalt völlig ok - dafür keine Wespe gesehen. Wir würden jederzeit wieder dort Urlaub machen.

Boligen var god, efter vi fik udskiftet 3 madrasser. Udsigten fin fra den øverste lejlighed.

Poolen var ok,men vi mener at den skal renses hver dag pågrund af hygiejnen. Uden dørs stole og liggestole, hvor flere var i stykker og defekte, samt mangel af hynder til begge dele. wi-fi 👎😡👎 betyder der var intet wi-fi i begge lejligheder. Et stort plus- der var mange håndklæder til hver person. Vi var 11 personer.

Pleasant location but not as expected

This location is well furnished and the swimming pool is large and pleasant. It is located in remote village in the countryside. The nice medieval village is very small, but you can find all what you need at a short distance. A car is required. The owners are really lovely and helpful, but the farm nearby with animals should be clearly known as it generates a lot of insects. Around the pool, a lot of horseflies, wasps and flies, ensure you have some insect repellant and nobody is allergic. The booking was not properly handled and we were not expected when arriving despite a payment and booking 2 months in advance. Lack of communication and coordination between the owners and the local contact of the rental agency. Hopefully this was an exception and thanks to the flexibility of my friends, we were able to arrange an alternative for the 1st night across the road with the lovely Restaurant Castello.
