Den nya kanalen Waterfront Park ligger precis utanför tillbaka gate och parkering; stranden och alla Lewes bara några steg bort! För hösten och vintern besökare, det finns en öppen spis!

Mer om huset: Vagnen Huset har en rustik sovrum med genom ventilation under takfoten och ett plåttak på 2: a våningen. Den 2 och 3 våningen bakre sovrum i huvudbyggnaden med utsikt över kanalen. Den öppna spisen i vardagsrummet värms upp några kyliga kvällar. Tv med Dish TV och surround-sound ligger i vardagsrummet och vagn hus. Det finns video och CD / DVD-spelare i båda husen och på vinden för barnen; och trådlös DSL och en skrivare / fax. Huset har välutrustade rum, ett kök kök strax utanför matsalen med modern utrustning, inklusive en Sub Zero kyl / frys, mikrovågsugn, diskmaskin och bortskaffande. Sedvanlig köksutrustning innehåller allt du behöver för kokt hummer eller biff och lax på grillen. Tvätt är i källaren med ingång från trädgården. Cykelparkering rack, hängmatta, örtagård för din matlagning bredvid grillen, och utomhusdusch. Det finns dedikerade parkering utanför tillbaka porten för 2 medelstora bilar.

Underhållning: Vecko och säsongs parkering passerar på Henlopen State Park Beach är billiga Du kan gå eller cykla till parken gratis. Breakwater Harbor Beach (aka Town Beach, med Dairy Queen) är gratis och en bra plats för småbarn eller andra som föredrar mindre kraftfull simning. Rehobeth och Dewey Stränder, strandpromenaden, gallerior utlopp, filmer och flera restauranger är 5-15 minuter söder om Route 1. Dessa stränder erbjuder det roliga i strandpromenaden utöver god hav simning och badvakter. Parkering är i allmänhet lätt tillgängliga på gatan meter eller i massor. Fiske, middagskryssningar, uthyrning och valskådning finns tvärs över kanalen. Cape May Ferry tar dig över mynningen av Delawarefloden till historiska Cape May.

Had a wonderful stay. It’s our 4th time at this property in historic Lewes and we just love it. Always pleasant to sit on the porch and read something fun from the library, ride bikes to the Cape and of course hit the beach. The house is well appointed with everything you need for a great beach stay. Thank you for sharing the home.

Convenient and Family Friendly

We loved staying in downtown Lewes. We could walk three buildings away for ice cream and the liquor store was right next door! Shops, restaurants, and three (maybe more) historic sites were within two blocks. In spite of this, the location wasn’t noisy. Most of our group used their bikes to travel the short distance to Cape Henlopen to swim. The family with little kids, rented a trailer for their bike and pedaled a mile to Savannah Beach where there is calm water and a guard.The house itself is comfortable but not precious. The kitchen is well-equipped and easy to cook in. And did I forget the lovely garden, with gas grill and large dining table?And the beautifully decorated carriage house?There is a lot to like at this property.

I love Lewes!!

Well stocked kitchen, plenty of room. The carriage house was super for the little family with kids. Location was perfect for walking to restaurants and shops. Sadly there were no laundry facilities but we adapted.

Wonderful stay in Lewes

This property was perfect for our family of 10, plenty of room and really nicely appointed. The location is perfect for accessibility to the shops of Lewes, the beach and biking to Cape Henlopen State park! It is really a gem. However, be forwarned that no towels or bedding is included with the rental. This is a detail that should be included in the listing but for some reason is not, and several of us traveling from afar found it quite inconvenient to have to provide our own.

Fantastic family beach weekend!!

We loved staying in Bill and Sallie's Victorian house in downtown Lewes. The location could not be beat (ice cream in shouting distance, short walk to the beach or The Wharf) and the accommodations were high end and very comfortable. We had a few families, lots of kids and the house accommodated everyone very comfortably. The beds were comfortable and we were able to churn out big group meals in the well stocked kitchen. The backyard grill and hammock space was great for outdoor meal times. Once the kids were asleep, we spent every night sitting on the front porch chatting into the night. Bill and Sallie were responsive and attentive to our needs during our stay and we appreciated all of the help they gave.

House on 2nd street

Everything in the description for the house is accurate. It is a beutiful house with a perfect proximity to all that downtown Lewes has to offer. We stayed with another family and had 4 young kids and a dog between us. The house never seemed too small. Between the great outdoor area and the separate carriage house there is plenty of room. Next door to the liquor store and Ice cream parlor, so awesome for adults and kids! The owner William responded to any questions or concerns that I had in a timely manner. Communication was awesome. I hope to stay here again!

Unbeatable location and plenty of room for a large family

We enjoyed our week in this home immensely. There is plenty of room to spread out between the back patio area, the front porch, carriage house and main house which we appreciated with our family of 8. The location was fantastic and the front porch was a favorite place to gather and chat while watching the people walk by. This house was the most well stocked VRBO I've ever been to. It has everything you would need and then some! We appreciated the fenced in back yard for our dogs (no grass but mulched areas for them to use). AC worked perfectly and we loved the fans on the front porch. If you stay you must eat at Agave (Mexican restaurant a few doors down) and Nectar (a few blocks down). And get your morning coffee and Ooey Gooey or Gorilla Stick from the Lewes Bake Shop.

Won’t be coming back!!

Dirty. Showers stalls have mold; toilet at checkin filthy, carpets not vacuumed, refrigerator not completely wiped down, stainless steel appliances streaked. Blinds in front bedroom were thin bamboo slats that let the sun in and light from street at night. Most disappointing was their attitude regarding fleas in their basement (since July 11; we checked in September 2) where pesticide company came and sprayed and they NEVER followed up to see if fleas were exterminated. The washer and dryer were in the basement and I was informed “DON’T GO IN BASEMENT” and if I did I would be responsible for having entire home and carriage house retreated which would be $1,000. We had ten adults and two children stay the week and was a huge inconvenience not having laundry appliances. I requested them to have basement rechecked to see if the fleas were gone and it was Labor Day weekend when we arrived so this didn’t happen until Tuesday 9/5 after constantly going back and forth with them to check. I HAD TO BE AT HOUSE TO MEET TECHNICIAN, show him where door was (outside) to get inside, etc. Fleas were still there and he had to retreat. I informed the owners that I felt the entire burden was placed on me even though they thought reimbursing me later for going to laundry mat (which I refused to do on my vacation). I realize that things happen and would have been more understanding if they were more sympathetic, apologetic and trying everything they could to get the fleas eradicated!

Perfect family reunion home

We were three families and a total of 12 people. The house and carriage house were very comfortable and spacious. Walking and shopping downtown was easy and fun. We spent mornings and evenings on the front porch where the owners had thoughtfully left a fan to supplement the ceiling fan so mosquitoes were not a problem. We loved every minute of our stay here!

Wonderful stay!

My family and I really loved this property. Full of charm, spectacular outdoor spaces/gardens, perfect location — steps away from the shops in Lewes. While you are right next to the shopping, the yard does feel like a private oasis. The house is one of the historic properties so it feels a little rustic in some ways, but for me that just was part of the charm. All in all, highly recommend!

Perfect location

This was my 2nd year renting this lovely home. The location is perfect. Walking distance to great shops restaurants . A very short drive to the bay or ocean beaches . The owners are very nice and respond promptly to questions . This rental is great ! 👍

Great Location; Beautiful Property

We loved our stay. The house was in great condition and had plenty of space for our group. My wife and I stayed in the carriage house, which was nestled in the beautiful garden and patio. Everyone else stayed in the main house in the well appointed bedrooms there. The kitchen was well stocked and there were plenty of beach house essentials like games, puzzles, and beach chairs. We loved the art and general vibe of the place too. On top of that, the location is amazing. We were literally two doors away from the shops and restaurants in downtown Lewes, which is our favorite beach town in the delmarva peninsula. From our location we took walks around town and along the canal, rode our bikes to Lewes beach and Cape Henlopen park. The space was great for our dog too, who enjoyed the fenced in yard and bounding between the main house and the carriage house. The hosts were very communicative and responded to any needs we had. All in all, we had a great vacation and enjoyed the house thoroughly. We hope to return again in the future!

Good location with charm/character, needs some TLC

Pros: This house is right on the main street in Lewes - great location for all things town and an easy bike ride or walk to the beach. Great front porch for hanging out. The carriage house and gardens are lovely and well maintained. Cons: We are pretty easygoing people, but unfortunately, we had ongoing disappointments with the condition of the property. Among them, as of August 2020 it is only partially air conditioned (which we were told mere days before our vacation began - word to the wise, check on this well in advance if it matters to you!) and it is very much in need of some updates and repairs. We know it's hard to keep an old house in ship-shape with renters coming through all summer, but we didn't find the owners to be responsive to problems that arose over the course of our stay, which was frustrating for the price being charged.

Delightful Time

We had a wonderful stay! Highlights included spending time together in the beautiful outside garden and patio, walks around town, bike rides on the trails to Cape Henlopen around Gordon’s Pond and to the beach, and leisurely afternoons on Lewes Beach. We loved that there was enough room for the extended family and some friends to stay!

“Great Getaway”

It was a pleasure staying in this lovely house in downtown Lewes and getting away from Washington DC for a week. We had a great getaway with two of our kids and the grandkids. The owners were very user-friendly.

Great location and cozy option for an extended family

This home couldn't be in a better location. Right on Second St so you can walk to everything in town, canal front park and the town dock slips where we keep a boat for the week. You are literally right there! You can bike to local markets and its a very quick drive over the canal bridge to the bay-side beaches and Cape Henlopen Park. The house has several hangout areas to accommodate adults and kids--together and apart. Loved the front porch hang. Nice gardens too. This is an old home full of charm so one needs to know that not everything meets modern standards. For instance, stairs to the third floor (where our teens slept) are pretty steep -- not a big deal but they do need to come down to access a bathroom--tricky at night. We had trouble with air conditioning units on the first floor during our stay which was tough given the mid-July 90+ temps. Standing fans suggested by the owner helped but didn't suffice. The galley kitchen is pretty well stocked but situated in the hardest area of the home to keep cool. So, we avoided cooking. Proximity to plentiful yummy restaurant options made it workable.

Great house and location

We had a wonderful time with a full house and space to relax and enjoy our stay. Kitchen well equipped to cook and eat at home. Our friends from Bilbao appreciated being walking distance to stores and beach.

We fell in love with this Victorian home in the center of Lewes historic district where we and our children could walk everywhere! Our growing family continues to love it and enjoy it year-round. We live near Washington, DC and are available by cell phone anytime.

Varför värden valde detta boende

Located on one of the original house lots in Lewes, the older part of the house was built in the 1880's and then added on to around 1900. While the kitchens, baths and systems are modern, much of the original charm of the house has been preserved.

We have many guests who return every year; people who come to get married in town or at the house; many guests with three generations; reunions; and other celebrations.

The house is within four blocks of many great restaurants and bars, great shopping, the tennis courts, ball field, and public dock, the historic sites in town, churches, and City Hall, and just a short walk further to the boat yard, the town beach (by the Dairy Queen) and more. The Henlopen State Park beach is a 5 minute drive with great parking, a concession stand with changing rooms, hiking trails, historic exhibits and access for off-road vehicles.

We have friends and neighbors in Lewes who help us care for the house when we're not there and something goes wrong.
