Proud to be a Victorian, the Sallie Lee Cottage is an exquisite example of the architectural wonders of the late 1800s. Around 1880, Sallie Lee built a stick-style Victorian cottage on Ashland Avenue. In doing this, she became the first woman to own a home in Western North Carolina. The cornerstone of this beautiful home centers around the exterior architectural displays of lines, angles, and ornate grids. Furthermore, the interior is equally exceptional, centering around its unique triangular fireplace; which results a distinct Latin cross floor plan.

The home boasts two bedrooms and one full bath. The Butterscotch Room has a fully functioning gas fireplace and access to the Mahogany Tea Room. The Tea Room is bathed in sunlight and offers access to the homes' two front porches! Enjoy a warm cup of tea relaxing in a vintange velvet chair. Lastly, the Terracotta Room has a full sized wardrobe which was built using the original flooring pulled from the home during the restoration process. Each bedroom has a brand new queen sized bed and plenty of natural light.

The bathroom offers a full sized bathtub and shower, plush towels and essential toiletries, just in case!

The cozy living room is inviting for great conversation centered around the gas fireplace. Shared with the dining space, the home also utilizes Google Home for anything and everything the internet has to offer.

The unique floor plan continues in to the kitchen where you will find the cabinets completely stocked and ready for any chef!

the perfect stay

We always try to stay in Montford on our visits to Asheville and this is the second time we were fortunate enough to stay here. Everything about the house is just right. We can't wait to come back!

Dream house and location

The house is perfect and we can't wait to stay again on our next visit to Asheville. It is a quick walk across the bridge into town. Montford is a beautiful neighborhood. Highly recommend!

Great Stay

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful restored, historic home in a very attractive historic neighborhood. Justin was very easy to contact, very pleasant and responsive. Good location right across I240 from downtown. Easy walk to downtown Asheville.

Perfect stay

This is a great place to stay in Asheville. The location cannot be beat and the house itself is clean and cozy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The hosts are super responsive and friendly (not that I needed much for them). It was great staying somewhere that is walking distance to downtown, but not in the heart of it all.

Not our cup of tea

First, let me say this review is based purely upon our experience and bears no malice. I only want to give my honest opinions. The location is great. The neighborhood is very pretty. However:The two front porches were inaccessible from the house interior. Only easily accessible patio had rickety doll-sized chairs and overlooked the trash cans. Shower water turned cold in mid-shower (after 5 minutes ). No broom, dustpan, vacuum, or any other cleaning utensils. Dishwasher impossible to start.. Both mattresses too hard; I had a backache every morning when i got up. TV choices minimal. Netflix would not play, for example, even though I am a subscriber. Overall? No, I would not come back.

convenient and quaint

It is perfect for a family of 4 wanting to walk to downtown Asheville —a 10—to 15-minute walk. The rooms are nicely decorated and have comfortable beds. We ate dinner out, so the small kitchen was not a concern for us. It had just rained the days before our arrival, and there were many mosquitos, so we did not use the small porch much and took advantage of the bug spray in the pantry.

Great stay at excellent cottage

Wonderful cottage, very comfortable and clean. The neighborhood was nice and it was an easy walk or drive to the downtown area. There was an issue before we arrived. Justin reached out to us, communicated about the issue and corrected it as soon as possible. Would definitely recommend the cottage and will definitely stay there next time we go to Asheville.

Beautiful cottage and great location near downtown

We enjoyed the cleanliness of the home and antique decor. The location was perfect for walking to downtown Asheville! The owner was very responsive when contacted. The main issue we had with the property is that the owner lives in an “apartment” under the house. This wasn’t obvious or even mentioned in the posting. We wouldn’t have rented if we had known this beforehand.

Charming, clean and convenient

Really nice place to chill out in after long days exploring Asheville. After a long drive to reach town, it was nice to be able to walk to so many things and leave the car in the driveway. Nice combination of history and creature comforts. Hosts were very responsive to our questions. Would definitely stay here again.

Asheville Stay

The property was as advertised and in a great location. There was a cleaning issue for the first night, so Jason put us up in a nearby hotel for the night. The swing on the front porch did fall from the joists, but other than that we enjoyed our stay and would go back again.

Girls trip

This cottage is very charming! The location is great. We were able to walk all around downtown from the cottage. My only suggestion would be some shades in the bathroom for a little more privacy. We would definitely stay here again!

Lovely cottage and lovely hosts!

A friend and I stayed only one night and strolledl around downtown. Our hosts responded rapidly and made excellent recommendations. Check in was a breeze. So was check out. The cottage was furnished well with plenty of clean towels. I highly recommend.

Our stay in the historic house in the Montfort area was so enjoyable. The location is perfect in a very friendly neighborhood and near everything. We would highly recommend it as a cozy getaway. Our host was so nice and accommodating and supplied us with everything we needed. A wonderful trip!

Charming, comfortable, convenient. This adorable property is convenient, clean, and wonderful. There is a nice cafe within easy walking distance. This historic home has been thoughtfully restored, and made for a memorable Ashville stay. We would love to come back!

We also love to be outdoors and travel to new places! We have fur baby Tallulah and a new baby boy! Tallulah enjoys running around the side yard and meeting new people.

My husband and I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains just over the state line into the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. Therefore moving just a little farther north made complete sense! Our neighbors are the real rockstars of our street. They are wonderful people to meet and enjoy a conversation with. Most are explats, but have grown and woven into the fibers of Asheville's amazing tapestry. Like ourselves, they are a wealth of information of what is going on in the area.
Additionally we are a quick 2 block walk to downtown!
