Build a beautiful resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rentals to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bikes, because Buxton’s unique shops, restaurants, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD vehicle - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Cottages at the Cape

A super location that’s so close to the beach. A very nice view of the Cape Hatteras park and the Lighthouse. The view and the breeze on the back porch is very pleasant and enjoyed the Strawberry moon rise during our stay. House is clean with nice furnishings and very reasonable price. So many good things about this property. We will definitely be back.

Upgrades!

The upgrades that have been to so this unit, and some others, are so nice! These units have been around for quite some time and the new updates are going to make them a bit more popular to stay in!

The nicest home we've stayed in at Cottages at The Capes! It was very clean and it's so good to see someone finally updating these homes! It was missing a coffee maker & few other gadgets and the washing machine was leaking water bad but we went by rental office, staff was extremely nice & accommodating. Tom, I believe the manager, very personable & friendly, came out within an hour and took care of the issues! He gave us his personal contact information after that and let us know not to hesitate to call with any other issues. He went above & beyond. We will be back!

Why the huge price increase?

We stay on Hatteras for 2 weeks every August. 2022 was our second vacation at Seahorse. We noticed some damage and wear to the home since our last stay which we reported. Upon checking out, I proceeded to book the same house for 2023. I was shocked to learn that the price had increased almost $2K from this year. We also saw an increase of about $500 from 2021 to 2022. We like the house, but a $2K increase for next year is just way too much. We were happy to find another home that was priced similar to what we paid this year, which we think is reasonable. Such a shame, because we like to come back to the same house every year. We’ve been coming to Hatteras for 26 years and rented one house for twelve of those years, until it was no longer available for our dates.

Underwhelmed

For what we paid this place was not worth it. We have stayed in a number of units at cottages at the cape. They are basic but clean and well stocked. However this unit(and the one next door rented at the same time by my sister and her family) had beds that are in need of replacement. All queens in which two people could not sleep comfortably because they sagged in the middle. In addition one of our rooms did not have any blinds and a call to the maintenance line yielded no response. Also don’t be fooled by your vacasa emails and texts. There is no code to get in. You must stop at the Hatteras realty location in Avon to get your keys. I am deeply disappointed with the customer service with Vacasa (on hold for over 15 minutes every time you have to call) and would like to highly recommend Hatteras realty go back to actually managing their own bookings.

Positive air conditioning worked great. Location was nice. Disappointed that it was un-charming. There were hardly any decorations. The dining set was plastic patio outdoor furniture. Even a hole in the middle for an umbrella. In the living room was a small table with game board with no pieces. How cheap is that? Upon our arrival one of the kitchen cabinets fell off and I screwed it back together. All of the folding closet doors were not in the tracks. All bathrooms only had a shower liner. The carpet going up one set of stairs was frayed and our shoes kept getting caught on it. There was even duct tape holding together one of the cabinets in the downstairs bathroom. Trash did not pick up and multiple phone calls went to Hatteras Reality went unreturned.
