The unit was well maintained, updated, very clean and had a lot of little extras that the host provided that made it feel very homey and comfortable. Communication with the host was easy as was the check in. Would consider renting this unit again.

My wife and I rented this for a long weekend and it definitely exceeded our expectations! It was spotless and had everything we could possibly need. Much better than a hotel and some other places that we have rented. The hosts were very communicative and responded quickly. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watching the ocean. There was a lot to do in the area (wild horses, sand dunes, Wright Brothers, aquarium…). There were also many dining options. This was honestly a perfect getaway and would definitely recommend it.

We loved our stay. It was only a couple days but we were very happy with the condo and the location. Was so nice to sit on the deck & listen to and watch the waves. We took a walk on beach each day. Plenty of parking. Location was great as it was close to lots of restaurants and sites. We visited the Wright Brothers Memorial. It was very interesting. We would highly recommend this condo. The hosts were very accommodating. Lots of little extras that made stay very nice. We would definitely stay here again.

This gem of a place was perfect. Unobstructed ocean views with a great deck. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We enjoyed the complimentary coffee left by our host. Chris and Karen were available for any questions and were very accommodating.

We couldn't think of one improvement for this condo. The place was immaculate when we arrived. Very inviting, comfy, and well stocked. We had everything needed to make a few meals while there. They even had birthday candles, so I was able to blow out a candle for my birthday while I was there. We thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend at this diamond in the rough. We will be back!

This is the best rental I ever stayed in. The place is extremely clean and well stocked. Everything provided is of high quality. The location is perfect, easy access to the beach and shipping/restaurants. The view is great, and people staying in the building are super nice and quiet. We looking forward to returning next year.

Chris was amazing and attentive. Condo was absolutely beautiful. No need to look any further. This is the place you are going to want to stay and you will fall in love with. Me and my husband had the best time in Kill Devil Hills for a Valentines weekend getaway. They really did think of everything to make this condo perfect! We can’t wait to come back in the future!

The hosts were great with availability whenever we had a question. Upon arrival the place was very clean and welcoming. The decor was very nice and we appreciated that it was not overcrowded with furniture and items. It allowed space in each room so that it did not feel crammed or tight. It had a good selection of kitchen items for preparing meals and baking. The many extras in case something was forgotten were appreciated.

Chris grew up on the Outer Banks, and Karen, originally from West Virginia, has called this beautiful place home for the past 30 years. The Outer Banks is more than just where we live—it’s a place we cherish, and we love sharing it with others.

By day, we both work in the nonprofit world, but in our free time, Chris can be found playing in a couple of local bands, while Karen enjoys volunteering and helping with fundraising events. We also have a passion for travel, and our bucket list seems to grow longer by the day!

We love the neighborhood around First Flight Retreat, often referred to as Milepost 9. Chris's family owned and operated an oceanfront motel at Milepost 9 from 1972 to 2005, so this place truly feels like home to us.

The best part, of course, is the beach—there is literally nothing between your property and the ocean. The walkway to the beach is brand new, offering unbeatable access to the shore.

Right across the street are three of our all-time favorite restaurants: Jack Brown’s, Sal’s Pizza, and the Thai Room. Our neighborhood is also home to some of the best live music venues, including Jack Brown’s, the Outer Banks Brewing Station, and Bonzer Shack.

The stretch of Beach Road where First Flight Retreat is located is fantastic, lined with amazing restaurants and shops within walking distance. This walkable dining district begins about a mile south at Kill Devil Grill, one of the Outer Banks' most beloved restaurants, and Swells’a Brewery, known for its laid-back second-floor outdoor deck. Within a mile, you'll also find Food Dudes, Ten-O-Six, Stack ‘Em High Pancakes, Bob’s Grill, Captain George’s, Fuji Japanese Steakhouse, Khan’s Mongolian Grill, and Slice Pizzeria—all easily accessible in this safe, pedestrian-friendly area.

To the north, our little neighborhood extends to Stop N Shop on Ocean Bay Blvd. This small, locally loved convenience store has been a Kill Devil Hills institution since the 1960s. On the other side of Highway 158, Ocean Bay Blvd becomes Colington Road, which borders the historic Wright Brothers National Memorial.

As you can see, our neighborhood is truly the heart of the Outer Banks—steeped in history, filled with great food and entertainment, and blessed with the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean.
