Playa Encanto is the pristime beach area of Puerto Penasco and one we return to each year. The home was as described by the owner and fit our needs very well. Being right on the beach is the only way to go. I would recommend this home to others that want a place on the beach in an area that is away from all the hustle of the city yet is ony a few miles out of town. Most everything you need is t this home and it is fully explained by the owner. Plenty of room for up to 8 people. We have stayed at Playa Encanto for nine years now and will return again and will consider this home as a place to stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities.

June 2011 some friends from North Dakota came down to Arizona and we rented the house from Rick for the first time. The moment I walked inside I felt at home. Rick has another home right behind the rental house but there was not one there, and we had all the privacy of the property. I loved the fact that there was two bedrooms opening on to the large porch at the ocean front. This is so important because everyone wants to be facing the beach and ocean. I felt I could be the generous host and give the master suite and bath to my guest, yet I also had access to the beach from my room. Rick made my stay easy and he was a great landlord for the 4 days we were there. I would recommend this property. Joe Ann and Kerry Hancock from Wickenburg Arizona.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We have rented several different places on playa encanto over the past ten years. This home was very nice and well maintained. We watched around fifty dolphins parade by us one afternoon and the walks along the beach were glorious, encountering less than five people in a ninety minute walk. We will definitely rent this house again if it is available. Thank you also for allowing dogs, they love the beachRecommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We have been renting houses in Playa Encanto for the past eight years and really enjoyed this house. Comfortable beds, nice showers, lots of outdoor seating. We loved all the windows along the entire length of the house that allowed awesome views of the water as well as ventilation by opening up that whole side of the house. Thanks for a great trip.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.

This is a super-comfortable little house with some really nice features. For example, the rusting aluminum sliding doors typical in the area are replaced by lovely wood french doors that have screened windows on each side of them. This makes for excellent circulation and convenient access. The manager was friendly and the house was very clean. The description and photos are accurate, and the owner easy to work with. I recommend it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

Great location, a bit hard to find in the night time but we made it and it was well worth it. The patio is amazing and huge, the ocean is literally right in front of you. We had a group of 6 and had an amazing time swimming, bbqing, and visiting town. The actual town of Puerto Penasco is a good 15 min drive but if you're looking for a place to chill out away from crowds this is the place.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

This is the 4th year we've stayed at this gorgeous beachfront home, and we'll be back for more. The beach is perfect, the weather was perfect. Definitely for those who want to avoid crowds and want to relax. If you conserve the power you will have no problems. We ran the fans at night and the solar was fine. Bring charcoal for the grill, and you might want to bring a fan for the back bedroom. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

A Great family Vacation. This place was wonderful. The view of the ocean, the extreme differences between high/low tides were all perfect. We stayed in a condo last year and we thought that was okay, but imagine a house, no long hot elevator to wait for. No crowds with loud noice all night. There were many times we were on the beach this trip wothout beable able to see another person as far as the eye could see. I was at first kinda reserved about staying in a home on solar power. We stayed in late June and the home was cool enough. The power never went out. Also the directions to the place were perfect. We also saved money by having a full kitchen available. Meaning we did not have to eat out. There is a large grocery store in town and all the kitchen stuff you need is provided. If you are looking for a family vacation without the crowds or a private get-a-way then I highly suggest you give this place a try. I emailed the owner many times before going and he always answered quickly. The house also is able to pick up a wi-fi signal provided by an outside contractor. Your laptop should find the signal automatically. My Magic Jack phone worked with that. I understand that AT&T cell also works great. Or just leave your phone and laptop at home and enjoy the beach home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7

Owner info

About the owner: Rick and Lila are native Arizonans, each grew up in Tucson, Arizona. In the late 1960's, as teenagers, they along with their respective families would camp in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico (Rocky Point) on Sandy Beach during Spring Break, Thanksgiving, or any 3-day weekends. It was such a popular place that you could easily have thousands of college kids, other families, and die-hard fishermen camping on Sandy Beach. Sandy Beach was and still is a very popular spot for Arizonans since it is only a 4-hour drive from Phoenix and Tucson. Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point)was a small fishing town exporting shrimp and fish. JJ's Cantina in Cholla Bay was entertainment for everyone. We could drive our ATC's and sandrails on the beach or ride over to Competition Hill. Now, that was fun and exciting. We bought our house in Playa Encanto not far from the town. At that time, there were about 35 beachhouses. Everyone knew one another and just enjoyed being by the ocean. When there was a new moon, you could not believe the stars in the night sky. Our children used to count the satellites orbiting around Earth. During the low tides, you could walk out a hundred yards to the tidal pools and find all sorts of critters. The beach in Playa Encanto is soft white sand. Our children loved the beach. Even our pets loved the beach. We have very fond memories of those early days as teenagers, then as parents and now grandparents. There's nothing more serene than watching the sunset over the ocean and listening to the waves rolling in.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Playa Encanto:
We think Playa Encanto has the best beach in all of Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico (Rocky Point). Our beach used to be called 'Sand Dollar Beach' because of the large abundant sand dollars found in the sand during low tides. It's a special area because to the South of our home is the Sea of Cortez and to the North is the Estuary. The Estuary is a beautiful ecosystem for migrating birds, sea turtles, fish, clams, and even a lost shrimp or two. When the fall rains came, the road into Playa Encanto would flood. It was difficult to enter but if you were familiar with the high road, you could get in. Or you would have to wait until the tide went back out. It was just amazing to see the fresh water river flow into the Estuary and out to sea.
We are fortunate to have so many enjoyable memories of our beach house by the Sea of Cortez. Our beach house has windows and french doors that face the beach and an upper deck for a 360 degree view of the whole area. It is just beautiful. You have to see and feel it to really appreciate its beauty.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Playa Encanto is away from all the resorts and crowded beaches. Playa Encanto is a gated community with family owned beach homes and is surrounded by the Sea of Cortez on the front side and a beautiful Estuary on the back side. The Estuary is full of migrating birds and thousands of ocean creatures. Oyster farms selling the freshest oysters and clams that can be found.
The Sea of Cortez is the home of migrating whales and at times can be seen from the beach house blowing and swimming with the abundant dolphin community that swims in the sea.
