These secluded rentals offer you a haven to explore all the diversity the Olympic Peninsula has to offer. Roam our lush lupine covered meadows, languish by the ponds, see Bald Eagles and Blue Heron and access The Olympic National Park, just minutes away.
The THE COMPASS ROSE HOUSE is carefully handcrafted and meticulously detailed. Newly finished, this home has commanding views of the Olympic Mountains and the large pond. The open plan with vaulted ceilings feels very roomy and open to nature while also being cozy. This beautiful cedar home is ideal for couples, but can accommodate up to 7.
The master bedroom looks onto the Lupine Pond, a 1/2 acre trout-filled pond that reflects the mountain views and attracts a large variety of birds. An upstairs room, open to the lower level, and accessed by a "ship's ladder", has a view of the pond and the lovely private, surrounding meadows.
Enjoy cooking in the deluxe kitchen, well equipped with all the cooking amenities, staples and spices and a gas stove, oven, large refrigerator and island. The bathroom with walk-in large tiled shower comes equipped with washer and dryer.
There is wood stove with a glass door so you can watch the fire and curl up with a good book, or simply enjoy the comfort of the radiant heated floors.
The sliding glass doors open to a large deck where you can take in the awesome Olympic Mountains and the acres of natural, unspoiled meadows. Have a barbecue, watch the Bald Eagles as they dive for trout in the pond. Gaze at the stars at night, roast marshmallows around the fire pit, roam the meadows or take an adventure into Olympic National Park.
THE COMPASS ROSE HOUSE can also be rented for groups along with our other two cabins. See our other VRBO listings.
Ten minutes away are Sequim and Port Angeles, the world’s longest sand spit, the ferry to Victoria, B.C., Canada and the entrance to Olympic National Park, where the road to Hurricane Ridge takes you to a stunning view of active glaciers in the Olympic Mountains.
Within minutes you can venture into the moss covered rain forest, enjoy a pristine glacier carved lake, hike hundreds of miles of wilderness trails with crystal clear rivers and majestic waterfalls, be awed by the sandy rugged beaches, and soak in natural hot springs.
Whether you are a nature lover who likes to kayak, surf, fish, spot birds, watch whales, bike or hike the trails, or someone who is search of a perfect quiet natural setting, here you will find your heart’s desire.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Compass Rose for a last minute getaway for our anniversary. After reading the reviews online I was expecting it to be a nice little cabin with all the needed amenities. It turned out to be what everyone said and so much more. The view of the Olympics is breathtaking. The walk to the gazebo and around the pond was cute. Then the amenities: The wifi connection was great (unfortunately my husband was on call for the weekend) The radiant heat through the concrete floor and hot tub warmed up the spring days and night. The kitchen was more than you could ask for, both in it's appliances, everything big and small you could need, and it's spices and extras. It would have been easy to prepare a 5-course feast! They even had cookies waiting for us when we arrived. Suzann and Martin did everything they could to accommodate our last minute reservation and make our stay truly amazing. Our only regret: we didn't stay longer!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The Compass Rose House is a fabulous place for a romantic, intimate, and secluded get-away. The outdoor hot tub with a 180* view of mountains, stars and endless wildlife is almost prime-evil. The accommodations are totally 1st class from the basic engineering of the structure to the fabulous detail in the trim-out and appliances. Loved Martin's hand-crafted wrought iron and the phoo album of the two year construction project. The warm, open, country ambiance is wonderful. As secluded as it feels, the facility is just minutes from Sequim and Port Angeles. We had the best Italian meal in years at the Bella Italia in PA during our visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family stayed at the Compass Rose in July and it was definitely the most peaceful, serene trip we have taken to date. We did not want to leave, the scenery was lush and beautiful. Our first night arriving we had a couple of deer welcome us within the first hour there. The large windows really give you such beautiful mountain scenery whether you are in the bedroom downstairs, the living room, kitchen or even upstairs in the loft. The house was immaculate and had great detail and decor. My husband does decorative concrete for a living and loved the decorative concrete floor design. We spent evenings eating dinner out on the deck playing Monopoly by sunset with our son. The hot tub was perfect for those cooler evenings to relax under the stars. My son really enjoyed going up the captain's ladder to the loft. The owners Suzann and Martin were very friendly and accommodating. Martin brought over home-made cookies for us to enjoy and my husband had a great time talking to him. Suzann recommended a really nice restaurant for us to check out in town for the first morning we were there, (The Chestnut Cottage) where we had a delicious breakfast and were able to meet some of the people in the area. Everyone was so friendly! We had so much fun visiting the waterfalls, rainforests, we even did a guided fishing trip on the river and my husband and son caught huge steelhead salmon. This truly was the perfect place for us to stay. It really suited our love of nature and our sense of adventure. We will definitely be coming back here next time we visit Washington.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We just came back from our stay here and it was one of my favorite vrbo's. I am one that is always trying to think of everything I may need. I brought towels and a hair dryer. This place had plenty of towels, a hair dryer, iron, ironing board etc. I didn't do any cooking as we were celebrating my husbands birthday and a anniversary so we ate out but the kitchen was pretty well stocked. It is a perfect location as it is right between Sequim and Port Angeles. I was very sad to leave and hope to come back next time with kids and stay at their other rental. Thanks Martin and Suzanne for sharing your wonderful retreat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views! The home itself was great, very clean and a great setting. It was very quiet and secluded. We enjoyed cooking dinners in the great fully stocked kitchen and the hot tub was perfect to take in the mountain view! The deck is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine after exploring the area. We even had some deer visitors one night! We enjoyed being so close to explore Olympic National Park. We had amazing views from Hurricane Ridge, not completely clear, but we could see Mount Baker and into Canada. Lake Crescent is also beautiful, a serene setting. A great vacation and a great place to call home for a few days!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I am late getting this review in, as we are so busy preparing for our daughter's wedding. We have booked this entire property for our daughters wedding in August. The property includes three cabins, two of which have two bedrooms, and one cozy little cabin for the bride and groom. We had seen the property when we talked to Suzann and Martin about the wedding and were able to see the lovely Log Cabin at that time. We decided to stay in the Compass Rose in June to sort of do a "dry run" for some of the food we will be cooking, and to get a feel for the property. This lovely property is all it is advertised and more. The Compass Rose is a beautiful high ceilinged home with one bedroom on the ground and a captains ladder to the second bedroom. The upper bedroom includes a dandy little nook that children will love camping in. The whole home is so full of light and so lovingly built you just want to enjoy being in it and not moving. The kitchen is fully stocked and well equiped with large cupboards, full size frig, etc. and any dish, glass or pan you might desire to use during your stay. Compass Rose also has a hot tub, so you can enjoy a glass of wine while gazing at the stars at night, or the mountains during the day. We did also get to tour the Log Cabin, and if you are the sort who likes to relax in a more rustic feeling cabin, this is for you. Although it has everything needed for your stay, it has a more country feel. As a bonus it has a small enclosed pool and hottub, which we are looking forward to using in August!! Both cabins have a washer and dryer, so you can pack clean clothes for your trip home. We got a peek at the tiny wedding cabin as well, and it is just wonderful. It has plenty of room even in such a cozy place that a couple and a mother (of course you are bringing your mother!) as well could stay. The surrounding property is all you could ask for, and Suzann and Martin will accomodate whatever your level of privacy is. If you have smaller children you will not want to be in Compass Rose. While it is wonderful for babies who can't climb and older children who can, you do not want to have your toddler trying the captains ladder while your back is turned. Choose the Log Cabin for toddler ages.. Now if you will excuse me, I will just go and book another stay before you do.....Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I and our 3 kids (ages 6, 9, 11) stayed for 3 nights at Compass Rose House for 3 nights in June, 2012. We were greeted by the owners with freshly baked homemade cookies. The house was absolutely perfect for us...plenty of room for our family, super neat & clean, very comfortable, everything we needed to make a house a home! Our stay was very enjoyable...exploring the lupine pond, grilling out on the deck, hot tub at sunset, listening to music and playing family games. The grounds were quiet, serene and secluded & the scenery was just stunning. All of us loved our stay and hope to return someday!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I am currently looking up VRBO homes for our 1st anniversary trip when it dawned on me that I never wrote a review for this beautiful home where we were lucky enough to spend our honeymoon. We arrived after dark, but that next morning when we woke up and looked out to the mountain view...WOW! I spent many most mornings just sitting out on the deck having a cup of coffee and enjoying the serenity. The house was very private and we loved being out with nature, but close to all the amenities of Port Angeles. I loved being able to sit in the hot tub with some wine and look at the stars after spending the day exploring around the area. There is so much you can do in a day and coming back and relaxing on the big couch was divine. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need and one of the owners even stopped by to drop off some more wood for the wood stove. Thank you again for such a wonderful home to spend our honeymoon in!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The photos barely do this home-away-from home justice. Peaceful. Serene. Well appointed. Perhaps the nicest place we have ever stayed. The owners are kind and accommodating. The kitchen is fully stocked. The view is unsurpassed. Everything you need is here - even a washer and dryer (which really makes the trip home easier.) We hope to return to the beauty of Olympic and the Compass Rose.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

After 2 days of strenuous hikes in Olympic National Park, we looked forward to our evenings at Compass Rose House. The quality of the house and its grounds exceeded our expectations. Most vacation rental homes only offer the bare essentials in cookware and utensils; however, the Compass Rose is fully stocked. The beds were also very comfortable, and there are lots of books, including hiking guides which proved to be helpful. The location of the house is prime for access to the alpine hikes of the park as well as to grocery stores and gas stations to stock up. One important thing to note is that the stairs/ladder to the upper loft is quite steep and requires that its occupant be in good physical condition; however, our party consisted of three people in good shape so this was not a problem for us. Our only wish was that we had more time on our trip to enjoy the house, the grounds, and all of the amenities!!! Thank you Suzann for providing such a wonderful accommodation, we hope to come back one day soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: Martin and Suzann are owners and full-time managers of Olympic View Cabins and stay only 3 miles away, so are available whenever you might need.
Why the Owner Chose Port Angeles:
We had a vision for over 30 years of a family compound where we could live and share a beautiful natural environment with our son and daughter. We traveled the Pacific Rim, New Zealand and Canada in search of a place. When we found this place 6 years ago it felt like we had found our place.
The Olympic Peninsula provides us remarkable natural beauty of almost every sort. We climb mountains and get into areas with pristine glaciers and lakes and see bear and goats and deer, and a huge variety of birds. We love to find waterfalls that few people have found and explore the rainforest mysteries summer and winter. Our children surf the waves as we explore the beaches which have unusual pinnacles and formations, and we collect driftwood and bask on the white sand. We take our family picnicking on the beautiful clear rivers where they often catch Steelhead or Salmon. Skiing is even not out of the question. And always, we make sure visitors get into the exceptional Olympic National Park.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We take great pride in the home we offer to you with meticulous detail. Our son designed his Compass Rose house and we all built it together. Some refer to it as "elegant camping" since you feel like you are almost out of doors with the openess the home has to all the surroundings. You have all the luxuries for truly comfortable living; excellent beds and linen and great cooking facilities--even the best of organic local herbs.
Our specialty in life has been to enjoy and appreciate nature and to help others have that passion too. And that is witnessed in our lovely property and the beautiful homes we have blended with the natural environment. For those who want privacy, we provide it. For those who want a serene and restorative Northwest experience, we provide that. Our homes are surrounded by meadows and a pond filled with fish, with majestic trees lining the edges and wildflowers. We have tried to make nature available and enjoyable out of every window and from every deck. Our hot tubs are outside so you can view the stars. You can see the Olympic Mountains in all their array from nearly every window. We want to touch people, to leave a lasting memory of enjoyment and rejuvenation, to have an infectious experience that compels them to want to pass on the importance of our natural resources to everyone.
