Gorgeous Shasta Lake Retreat

Year Purchased: 2007

Why the Owner Chose Shasta Lake

This has been our "home away from home" for many years. It belonged to our great-grandparents, our grandparents, and now us. Many family reunions and holidays have taken place here sharing lots of laughs & love. We couldn't bear the thought of not having this home to come back to, to continue the family traditions making memories for our own children. Our hope is for them to keep it going for years to come with their own families someday.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Only a 5 minute drive to Centimudi boat launch for easy access to the lake & TONS of parking for the SUV's, trailers etc. at the house It's your own FREE parking lot. We love how it feels driving through the quiet neighborhood to our private retreat backed up to the woods on 2 acres of property. Feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, yet we're only 10 minutes drive into town for all our needs. Amazing place to get away from it all.

We spend alot of time at the lake boating & fishing, & come back to the backyard to clean our catch & prepare fresh fish for dinner. Enjoying our morning coffee on the deck watching the deer & quail roam through the yard is so theraputic. Going hiking on the trails in the woods is always an adventure. Our boys safely disappear for hours enjoying nature exploring new discoveries. They catch frogs, play in the creek & come back with hilarious stories of what they did. I send them out with a large jar to pick ripe wild blackberries that grow all summer long that we put on Vanilla Bean ice cream after dinner for a special treat!!! It just feels like we've traveled back in time to a simpler way of life when we are here, but still have all the modern conveniences of the kitchen, iPod alarm clocks & HDTV ;-) Even our favorite burger joint is old school. Shasta Burger, 5 minutes from the house is a hole in the wall place you might easily pass by, but DON'T. You won't be sorry.

It really is a magical place. Our kids even argue less when we come here because they are so happy experiencing all there is to do here & the peace that comes over us all.

There are lots of fun things to do in town as well. The Sundial bridge is a cool place & the Turtle Bay museum is a common draw. There are TONS of restaurants to visit if you want to avoid cooking alltogether. Water Works Water Slide Park is only a 10 minute drive that we love. So much fun!! There is a BMX track & a skate park nearby too.

Owner's Map of Shasta Lake

Matt & Laurie have 3 teenage boys & live in Southern Ca. We own our own business & enjoy our vacations at Lake Shasta ourselves throughout the year. Fishing is a BIG part of our family hertitage, passed down for several generations. Lake Shasta is the perfect place for all sorts of outdoor recreation. We never tire of the beautiful views or the peace & tranquility there.

Perfect retreat!

Guest: School trip coordinator (San diego)
Date of Stay: 12/07/10 Review Submitted: 12/16/10

Okay, so I was thinking "nice alternative to a motel" but I had no idea how incredible this place was. The owner was gracious as I sent a million emails (working for a nonprofit I has to have every detail for this trip) and extremely helpful with all my questions. The house was perfect, clean, comfortable, and in a beautiful quiet area. Everyone in my group were extremely thankful, especially those who came last year and stayed in dorms and motels. We got there and found the porchlight on and heater up, extremely welcoming after a long day of travel. There are way more amenities then listed, pretty much you feel like you are at home, except it's clean and no one can find you :)

Home away from Home!

Guest: Family of 7 (Medford, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 08/28/10 Review Submitted: 09/02/10

We loved this home! It was reflective of every review. We saw deer the first night we were here. The best are amazing! I slept better here than I have in a long time. There are small fans in each bedroom, which we loved for the "white noise". The fridge is large and kitchen has everything you could need. There is plenty of comfy couches to lounge in. Bottom line - this is a nice place to relax and enjoy time as a family. The kids had fun playing games and with the pool table. A great place to come back to after a day on the lake. I would definately recommend this place. We went to the Sundial Bridge and walked through the park - beautiful. Wish we had time to bike on the great trails there. Minutes from shopping and the lake! GREAT!

The Mullen home worked out perfectly for us! It's location was perfect for boating at Lake Shasta and heading into Redding for food and site-seeing. The home was clean and so well stocked, we felt right at home. The bedrooms were so spacious and the kids loved the bunk room! We all had fun playing pool and watching movies on the awesome TVs. The kids had fun playing in the huge back yard and watching the deer and quail. We also loved all the home's history...especially the Mullen Family Tree! Thank you to Matt and Laurie...you made it fun and completely hassel-free!

Perfect Family Vacation

Guest: Carlos (Orange County, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/08/10 Review Submitted: 08/16/10

The house was perfect for our family vacation. More room/sleeping than we needed for our 2 adults and 5 teenagers. Spacious, nicely remodeled with everything we needed. We cooked every meal for 5 days in the house and used the gas grill which was easy. A mother deer and her baby strolled through the yard in the morning and evening. The kids loved the pool table and ipod stereo and ipod alarm clocks. Very clean and stocked with everything you need to never have to go into town, but only a few minutes away from anything you need. Very well organized. We took up our boat and drove 5 minutes every morning to Centimudi launch for easy launch/retrieval and parked the car and boat in the spacious driveway every night. Great DVD library for family and adults. We already want to go back next year. It felt like our very own vacation home. Thanks, Laurie and Matt.

Shasta Lake House - feel right at home

Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 08/16/10

We are a german family and enjoyed your house very much. At the beginning especially the ice-maker impressed our boys the most. Everything was exactly as described. Absolutely clean and well provided with everything. We love it to stay outside to watch the deer and the boys love the pool-table. We came all the way from Germany because just 5 miles away in Redding is Bethel Curch - one of the best in the world. For us a real attraction. We will be back.

Wow! What an amazing place....The owners have made this home feel as comfortable as can be. We loved the house, it was just like home away from home. It was cozy, clean, beautiful with all the necessary things we needed to make our vacation complete. I loved my morning coffee on the deck, my kids enjoyed the pool table and of course my husband loved the flat screen tv's. The bedrooms were elegant yet comfortable and the bunk bedroom was great too. The backyard was a new adventure each day, one day we were chasing turtles in the creek and the second day we were picking wild blackberries to enjoy on our ice cream! Thank you so much Laurie and Matt for letting us stay in your beautiful home! We will be back.... in fact you may have to kick us out next time :) BTW for any future guests... we highly recommend Shasta Burger....just down the street!

Shasta Lake House - We loved it!

Guest: Lucrecia F (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 06/18/10 Review Submitted: 06/22/10

We recently stayed at the Shasta Lake House to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. We had guests from age 15 to 80 (party of 8). The house was so comfortable -- we felt right at home! We enjoyed the back deck and bbq'd every evening (we did not eat out once!). The house is well stocked and the few things we forgot, we easily found on the shelves in the kitchen. The house is very well maintained and quiet. It has two living rooms w/Blu-Ray DVD players which meant we could enjoy two movies/tv's and the guys played pool every evening before dinner. We visited Lake Shasta, Shasta Dam and Burney Falls. Only regret is that we didn't stay a few days longer! Thanks, Laurie for allowing us to stay in your home! We had a great time and hopefully we'll have the opportunity to stay again in the future!
