La Casa de los Abuelos is located in the heart of Bocas del Toro on Isla Colon. Originally built for one of Panama's vice presidents as a family retreat away from the politics of Panama City, the beautiful Caribbean-style house, constructed from many hundreds of boards of nispero lumber and decorated with local artwork and ornaments, has an "at home" feeling as soon as you walk through the front door. It's just one block from the Bocas Marine Tours water taxi to the mainland, and minutes from the major restaurants, bars, shops, bank, and tourist activities.
Guests enjoy our two balconies with armchairs and hammocks, an open air living and dining room, and use of the kitchen. Each of the four bedrooms has its own air conditioning unit and a separate cable TV receiver.
Our location is extremely convenient, opposite the grocery store most-used by the island's local people. There's plenty of hustle and bustle during the day -- a people-watching delight -- but it's quiet at night and, if you've been out for the evening, you don't need to take a taxi home.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
Harry & Tina Hooper have lived in England, the United States, the Netherlands, France, Kenya, and India. We currently spend our time between Whittier, North Carolina, in the Great Smoky Mountains; Cedar Key, Florida, a small island in the Gulf of Mexico; and, of course, Bocas del Toro, Panama. When we're not in Bocas, we'd like you to enjoy our charming home.
Why the Owner Chose Bocas del Toro
The Bocas archipelago is one of the most beautiful, sheltered, marine areas in the world. We bought the house because it was the most comfortable and convenient house in town, in a great location. The previous owner -- a popular(!) retired Panamaian politician -- had decorated it with delightful taste, and we hope the few changes we have made have been in keeping with its character.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We can easily take a boat to visit any of the other islands or beaches or to go fishing and still be living within easy reach of all the amenities of the town. The grocery store over the road is a great convenience, six or seven times a day! After a night out at one of Bocas' great restaurants, it's just a short, safe walk home, and the open living area and large dining table provide a great place for entertaining new friends. With 2 balconies of additional living space, you can also get some time to yourself without leaving the house.
