Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Low Country on the Isle of Palms, South Carolina! A five minute walk from our cottage will have your toes in the sand of the seven miles of beaches listening to the call of the seagull while you stroll the windswept dunes searching for shells and watch for pelicans fly in perfect formation; or spend the day sunning, swimming, surfing and building the greatest sand castle!
Just a short walk up and across the street is our deepwater dock on Hamilin Creek minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal Waterway, Wild Dunes Marina (for gassing up and fine dining at the Morgan Creek Grill), and small islands and creeks for exploring, crabbing, shrimping, fishing, and fun! Wild Dunes is a world class resort located at the northern tip of our island (approx 5-10 minutes from beach house) with two top golf courses! Relax on the back deck while watching the kids frolic and play in the private, 18' round/4' deep above ground deck pool! Yard is fenced if bringing pets. Wifi is available for those that can't leave their computers at home.
Or take the day to explore this historic area from Civil War Fort Moultrie on neighbor Sullivans Island. Or to the USS Yorktown on the Harbor; or Charles Pinckney Home; or Boone Hall, former plantation and site of films North and South, The Notebook and Queen in neighboring Mount Pleasant. Or cross our beautiful Cooper River bridge to historic Charleston and take a carriage ride to see the historic homes and gardens, shop at the open air market, antique shops, national and local boutiques, and end the day with a wonderful meal from numerous fine dining choices.
We invite you to unwind and relax in our charming classic cottage with glorious sunset views over Hamlin Creek. Up the stairs you will find a sunroom with wicker set and seating to enjoy the creek viewing, living room has queen sleeper sofa and occasional chairs with a 60" Toshiba TV with cable and DVD player, dining room with table and chairs, fully-equipped tiled kitchen with small table and two chairs, main bedroom with queen bed & tv, and second cozy bedroom with two twin beds, one full bath with jacuzzi tub and shower with beach mural on walls.
Upstairs has warm pine floors throughout most living areas, linoleum in kitchen, bath and sunroom, plaster walls, beadboard ceilings in bedrooms and living room. The back deck holds the gas grill with furniture for watching burgers cook, and down a few steps to swimming pool deck.
Down the back OUTSIDE steps is downstairs apartment which is rustic similar to finished basement atmosphere, with kitchenette with stove, microwave and refrigerator, table and four chairs, full bathroom with shower, third bedroom with queen size bed, queen size sleeper sofa in living area, 27 inch TV with DVD player, games, plus washer and dryer. Through door and few steps through carpeted beach toy area w/foosball table is large fourth bedroom with queen bed.
Our deepwater dock is just a few steps up and across the street with gorgeous expansive views of Hamlin Creek and little Goat Island directly across which separates us from the Intracoastal Waterway. You will see peeks of large ships going up the Waterway.
Our floater has three plus feet of water AT THE FRONT TOWARD CREEK * at normal or 0/0 low tides, with 16 by 12 covered pierhead with bench, floater is 8 by 20 and you are able to swim (at high and medium tide; not recommended at low tide because of pluff mud bottom and oyster shells).
Fish and enjoy the creek without ever leaving the dock... or bring your boat and explore our creeks, neighboring islands, fish in the ocean and creeks, or wakeboard, ski, kneeboard right on our wide creek! Be mindful of tides. They are published everyday in our local paper!

Also please remember: Currents can be strong both in the ocean and Hamlin Creek! *Please note at 0/0 or normal low tide the back of floater (towards street) can be in mud. Please note the deep water dock is shared with one other nice local family. You have full use of dock at all times. Please respect their property, grill, jet ski, boat, etc, at dock.

We really enjoyed our stay. House was very clean. We were only a short walk to the beach. I guess we didn't read the fine print and were not expecting the bedrooms to be separated, but after going back and reviewing all the fine print we did see where the down stairs apartment was included in the details. We had to search for the 2nd bedroom in the basement aka: downstairs apartment, which you have to go through the garage to get to. However, it ended up working out just fine and we enjoyed our stay. Very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. I also appreciated getting a call from the owner on our 2nd day to make sure everything was going well. That was a pleasant surprise! Hope everyone else enjoys their stay as much as us 6 girls did :-)
Owner response:So happy our guests enjoyed their stay at Sunset Palms! We work very hard to fully disclose and paint a clear detailed picture of this classic beach cottage on Isle of Palms. These guests did not read the detailed description info of the setup of the house/bedrooms on the VRBO website which is not in "fine" print, but standard size print. The 6th paragraph down on VRBO Listing states (Please note "OUTSIDE" is in all capital letters): "Down the back OUTSIDE steps is downstairs apartment which is rustic similar to finished basement atmosphere" . . . In same paragraph: "Through door and few steps through carpeted beach toy area w/foosball table is large fourth bedroom with queen bed." Please note you enter the downstairs apartment on the back side of house through a standard door, not garage door. Also to fourth bedroom is standard door, not garage door, and pass through what used to be garage and is now carpeted beach and pool toy/foosball table area to 4th bedroom. Also for clarification, as "basement" is misleading, please note the downstairs is simply a bottom floor, not a basement. There are no basements on Isle of Palms. The main living area is on the second floor. We appreciate your feedback and chance to clarify these issues, so there are no future misunderstandings. Everything as pictured and described! We enjoyed our visit for our son's wedding nearby and felt totally at home here. It was wonderful to be able to relax between all the wedding preparation. We were able to spend time with family, visiting downtown Charleston and nearby Patriot Point, and was able to have a few of the wedding party over the next day with a relaxing BBQ, catching up on each others lives, since we all live in different states and hadn't seen each other in a few years. Weren't able to walk beach or fish as we had planned since weather was a bit cold but look forward to possible staying again when visiting Charleston. We loved everything about our stay. Thank you again.

We enjoyed our recent stay and found the cottage to be clean and well equipped. The listing pictures are fair and accurate. The owners were very responsive and easy to deal with. Just returned from staying at this property and can't recommend it enough! We had such a fabulous time in the area. The home is very close to the beach, is well maintained, and the owner is great to work with. There is a lot to do in within just a few minutes drive of the house. This house was in the perfect location for all we wanted to see & do while in the Charleston area. We're already talking about how we'd love to return soon!

I spent some time deciding where to stay. Of course with two couples and dogs we needed privacy and a roomy fenced yard. This place fit the bill and then some. The pool was such a bonus for us and the walk to the beach was actually just around the corner. Very beautiful area. We normally spend our beach vacations further up the coast but we're sold. I have a strong feeling we'll be regular IOP visitors! You can't go wrong with this one.

Although this is an older home, it is quite well maintained and clean and more than roomy for the 5 of us that have been staying here plus a couple guests that came by and stayed. The dock is a great asset as well as our son likes to fish and enjoyed that. Rates are the most reasonable I found on this website, so I have to admit I wondered what we were going to see when we arrived! My wariness was definitely put to rest when we walked in. Feels like someplace I could call home and we loved staying here! Thinking of coming for more than the 2 weeks we stayed here this time in the future. Owners are great to deal with.

We grew up in Charleston and we come to visit our families several times a year. We enjoyed the house - very cozy and we felt right at home. Downstairs was perfect for the boys and the backyard for the dogs. Convenient for family and friends to visit and for us to visit them. Enjoyed the dock and walks on the beach. The owners were great to deal with too! Thanks!

For over ten years we've taken a working vacation to I of P, and this is by far the best house we've chosen. It had plenty of room for our group. The house is immaculate, cozy, and beautifully decorated - yet comfortable enough for all of us to feel at home. Add to these accomodations the backyard pool and use of the dock, and you can't beat this for a vacation getaway. The owners are readily available and anxious to help in any way possible. I was so pleased with the rental that I booked it for next year as soon as I got home.
