Aqua House 1: Large & Lovely: Ocean-Front Two-Story Condo on the Beach
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Aqua House, Unit 1, is an ideal get-away for families, dive groups, honeymooners, lovers, friends, and people who are just plain tired out. Grand Turk is uniquely special in that it can be quiet or raucous, settled or busy, and it will offer you a lot to do or nothing to do. It's completely your choice! Aqua House is located directly on the beach just steps from the ocean's edge where there is sandy-bottom swimming or, only a few feet away, spectacular shallow reef snorkeling and diving. There are so few people on the beach--frequently nobody!--that it seems to be yours alone. In addition to the magnificent beach, Aqua House also boasts all the amenities of home. It has two air-conditioned bedrooms and two bathrooms on the lower level. Each bedroom has private access to its own bathroom. A private, covered deck on which you can read, or nap, or look at the sea is attached to the master bedroom through French doors. The upper level comprises a completely appointed kitchen including a washer and dryer, a large dining area, and a spacious living area connected to a private, covered balcony through floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors. From this high vantage point, you can enjoy overlooking the beach and the sea while dining, libating, or merely relaxing and enjoying your amazing lot in life. When the horizon is clear, you WILL see the Green Flash!!
A mere 20 minute flight from the relative hustle-bustle of Providenciales (Provo to us) lies the ultra laid-back island of Grand Turk--our home sweet paradise. This very small island--not quite 9 square miles--is surrounded by soft, white sand beaches set in an unbelievably breathtakingly beautiful turquoise-blue sea. In front of Aqua House--and clearly visible from all the east-side windows--is a salina (salt pond) that is populated by myriad varieties of seabirds. There are land birds as well--ospreys, warblers, hummingbirds, etc.--making Grand Turk a Mecca for birders and photographers. Approximately 200 yards off the Grand Turk shoreline, lies the third largest barrier reef in the world which guarantees spectacular scuba diving and snorkeling year round. The three local dive shops operate small boats and take groups of eight or fewer diving and/or snorkeling, and only one boat is permitted on each dive site buoy. So, like the uncrowded beach, the ocean is similarly uncrowded--by people, that is. It's FULL of marine life! The dive shops also offer excursions to nearby islands to play with the rays, picnic, snorkel, and swim. Furthermore, fishing on the island or from small fishing boats is available as is horseback riding. Aqua House provides six bicycles for island transportation and/or touring.
Our ultimate gift to you, our dear guests, is the absolute disappearance of all the tension and the stress you brought with you. You will NOT be taking any of that home along with your beach and sea treasures!

This was our first visit to Grand Turk and because of our fantastic stay at one of the condos at AquaHouse recently, we hope to return for a longer stay next time. My husband and I had previously stayed at a large resort on one of other islands of the Turks and Caicos group of islands but this time we wanted a more authentic island experience of a less commercial site. Yet we selfishly weren’t quite ready to give up any desirable “creature comforts” like: Quality beds and linens, well equipped kitchen & bath, restaurants within walking distance, a gorgeous ocean view and… all this actually ON the beach (yeah, we're spoiled a little). Well, Aquahouse delivered on all points and then some ! We were delighted!. We did our research on line thru VRBO for places to stay on Grand Turk. We lucked out with our choice for one of the condos at Aquahouse. The owner, Dana, and her contacts with island residents ( Dale for one) were all so helpful, friendly and pro-active to our planning and our stay that we felt pampered before we ever got there. Once on Grand Turk and then at our condo at Aquahouse, however, it just got better from there! We didn’t have to rent a car because part of our condo rental agreement included not just being picked up at the airport, but a trip to the grocery, and liquor stores for our all important food and “spirits” supplies. The condo furnished the same starter supplies you would expect at any vacation resort so our purchases were selective not basic. After that, a car wasn’t necessary. It was just relax, and enjoy our private surroundings! I can tell you the description of Aquahouse on line did not do it justice (the pictures of the ocean and the shoreline tho were accurate). Our condo, and it’s location on the beach was awesome. The hardwood floors through out (except tile in the bathrooms) had an aged smooth patina that was stunning and beautiful. The owner apparently is an artist and a traveler so the condo’s tasteful décor reflects a restful color pallet of the sea and an insight as to what a vacationer would appreciate in accommodations (I call it the meeting the three C’s: Clean, Comfortable and Classy). There’s a serenity, privacy and even intimacy with the ocean here that when you first arrive, open the French doors to that turquoise sea just beyond your bedroom patio, you just have to smile from ear to ear as you take in the beautiful ocean view and welcome yourself to paradise! It’s an “Ah” moment!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Having the gorgeous beach right on our doorstep was a lovely treat. The condo is well equipped, especially the kitchen and the games were much appreciated by the kids. The use of the bikes made shopping easy. Lucy was very helpful and saw to all our needs. We have however noted that the condo in the pictures was not the one we were given. We totally recommend the Gibbs Cay boat trip - swimming with the stingrays was a fantastic experience! Thanks very much for a memorable holiday.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Jacquie, Thanks so much for choosing to stay at Aqua House and for sending your very complimentary review! I'm delighted that your stay went so well. You live on the other side of our world, but I sincerely hope you'll return and stay longer next time. Cheers! Dana (owner)

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: My name is Dana Schwenzfeier, and I am a woman about to have a birthday that begins with 7--how did that happen?! I have five sons, five daughters-in-law, and 11 1/2 grandchildren. However, babysitting grandchildren was not what I envisioned as an ideal pastime in my dotage. Thus, my 50th birthday gifts to myself were becoming a scuba diver and traveling worldwide. Most of my excursions involved locations with spectacular diving, and Grand Turk was one of them. My first trip to Grand Turk was in 1997, and I have been returning every year since then and staying longer each time. In fact, I live in three countries--the Turks and Caicos, England, and the USA--the country of my birth. This is why I have a friend/manager for Aqua House--I can't do it myself at present. I do read my e-mail however, and will respond to personal messages ASAP. Eventually, since I love being in Grand Turk so much, I hope to become a legal resident of the Turks and Caicos.
Why the Owner Chose Grand Turk:
In 2001, I toured Aqua House as a prospective buyer. The three units were being refurbished with soaring white ceilings over magnificent hardwood floors imported from Guyana, and enormous windows overlooking the ocean in the back and a salt pond full of birds in the front. To put it mildly, I was besotted with a building! I managed to buy two of the three condominiums and love them even more now. When the airplane taking me to Grand Turk lands at the airport, all the built-up stress and tension dissolves away almost instantly. I drop my bags at Aqua House and walk to Duke Street where most of the bars and restaurants and dive shops are. I reconnect with my local buddies for a couple of months of heaven on earth. I walk on the beach, dive, snorkel, collect beachy treasures that I make into jewelry or mirror frames, and read voraciously. I dance to the Caribbean music of the local live bands and even sip a brew or two. I watch whales and play with dolphins. When it's time to go, I'm never ready to leave. Coming to Grand Turk is like stepping back a few decades in time, and it suits me. It's truly a place where, 'Don't worry, be happy' seems to be the law of the land. When YOU come to Grand Turk, be prepared to experience the most relaxing, stress-free vacation you have ever had!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Aqua House is larger than the other beach-front rentals on Grand Turk. When I bought Aqua House, I was thinking of how comfortable my family and I would be if several of them came to visit at the same time. The bedrooms are large enough to add a roll-away bed or two, and each bedroom has its own full bathroom. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped to prepare meals of any size. There is a dishwasher and a clothes washer and dryer. Four or five people can live very comfortably together in this condo. The privacy of the upper-level covered balcony and the lower-level covered deck allows additional room for eating, reading, napping, dreaming.............
