Welcome to New-Orleans!
Bienvenue à La Nouvelle-Orléans pour les francophones!
We survived Katrina, no floods, minor damage ( the cottage was built on high grounds, facing the Mississippi river, where Native Indians, early French settlers and their West-African slaves used to live in the 1720's).
We are blessed and thankful. Our thoughts still go the victims of this disaster.
Come and visit our great city, we are rebuilding it. We simply have to.
Having said that, Louisiana and New-Orleans are doing great thanks to our people, our determination and unique culture. Our legendary "Joie de Vivre" can't be lost!
Thank you very much to check availability before contacting us.

Also check our "MONDECREOLE Secret Courtyards/ Private homes & CEMETERY walking tour"/ THE INSIDER'S FRENCH QUARTER. (80% of the 2h30mn tour takes place behind locked doors and explore the lives, in New-Orleans, of 5 generations of an old creole family who once owned LAURA PLANTATION: Laura Locoul (1861-1963), a Creole lady and plantation mistress from Louisiana, wrote a journal of her family's life in the old French Quarter:
1) Walk through closed gates and, surrounded by the stillness of secluded, tropical courtyards, step into the mysterious and forgotten story of Laura's family. Amid patios of profuse and entangled beauty, meet the spectors of those long dead: the European and the African branches of this Louisiana DYNASTY.
From grand & distinctive townhouses to original slave quarters, hear about black aristocrats, free people of colour, slaves, changing society after the Civil War and the birth of JAZZ while a culture tragically dissolves. Discover where, how they lived and their intimate secrets shared only with VOODOO queens of long ago...
2) Hear also about Historic Haunts & places, myths & legends:
Infamous figures such as Marie Laveau and Jean Lafitte make appearances, as do Napoleon House and a possible yellow fever morgue. The tour offers historical context for the legends surrounding these people and places, suggesting where the myths could have originated without necessarily debunking them.
The city is full of wonderful mysteries, which add to the flavor of our history. We intend to reveal different layers of the stories so that people may understand how and why each legend came to be."
Visitors will learn about the ghastly details of each haunted location and then learn about the historical time period in which they occurred. The tour begins with the settling of New Orleans, when young French and Senegalese women were sent to the colony as brides for male settlers. They were rumored to have brought vampires along with them. The tour also explains the atmosphere of death and decay that pervaded the city during the massive outbreaks of yellow fever in the mid-1800s.
Frommer's says it is the most fascinating, unexpected, exclusive tour in town, much more historically accurate and entertaining than all the regular touristy haunted history tours.

Caprice Creole Cottage, 2 Blocks from the French Quarter
Year Purchased: 1999
Why the Owner Chose French Quarter
New-Orleans is wonderful and a unique place for its history.
The French Quarter & Bourbon Street can be a lot of fun, no one there thinks moderation is a virtue! But would you really like to stay there?
We much prefer the authentic "Faubourg Marigny", this is the real New-Orleans. We learn from the past but do not live in the past, though we are dedicated preservasionists.
We also support our great local activists who live in our neighborhood.
They are foremost concerned about the rebuilding of our city, wetland issues, global warming, sustainnable development and how to create a clean, green & better city for next generations.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The house stands in the middle of a friendly, progressive, artsy, quiet, family oriented and safe neighborhood. It is also close to the best attractions in town. Walking distance for groceries as well.
Thanks to the lush front yard, its tropical plants, the cottage is also a nice secluded retreat providing complete privacy and a comforting sense of peace with its own "mystique".

We just returned from our 2nd stay at Caprice Cottage and it was as wonderful as the 1st stay. Very convienent to Frenchmen and the French Quarter. We always swing by the Verti Mart on the way back in from touring the city. From the time we arrived our car never moved. We took the tour the 1st time we stayed with Bill as our guide and were very impressed with all the historical information. We also met the owner Paul who is very nice and gave us great information about Frenchmen Street. The house is very charming, homey and clean. We love this place and will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Caprice for a week. The house is absolutely beautiful and is in a fantastic location close to Frenchmen Street and about 10 minutes from the French Quarter. The house is well maintained, and convenient with a washer/dryer and full kitchen. We felt very safe in the area walking home later at night, and we felt we had close access to the best jazz music in the city - on Frenchmen Street! Bill was great to deal with. He was very helpful and the Insiders Quarter tour he guided was the best historical tour we did in New Orleans. It was also a very quick taxi ride from the airport, so very easy to access when you arrive in New Orleans. We will definitely be back!

I stayed here with friends for a week and had a wonderful time. I was in town for the American Library Association Convention and the location was perfect- close to Frenchmen Street for going out at night, near the French Quarter for getting food, but close enough to the conference to walk. The house itself is beautiful and well taken care of. Paul was a great host and was very welcoming. Highly recommended!

My wife and I just spent a great three day weekend (Thursday to Sunday) at the cottage and had a great time. The house is quite comfortable and near everything. We really loved the neighborhood. The neighbors were friendly and many of the homes were decked out for Mardi Gras in a very fun way. Even without a car, we found ourselves returning there several times each day to recharge (we did LOTS of walking), It's about a ten minute walk to Jackson Square and five to Frenchmen St. We even walked to the midpoint of the Uptown parades and had the great experience of watching them with the local folks (few tourists - lots of kids), I had been a little apprehensive about walking back from the clubs after midnight - but we had no problems whatsoever - still plenty of people around. We'll be BACK!

The cottage is so beautiful and convenient to so much of wonderful NOLA. I really love to feel immersed in my favorite city, and the Caprice did not disappoint! It was clean, beautifully decorated and had room to spread out! Having such amenities as a refrigerator and washer/dryer really came in handy, and the management was lovely as well. Our group was very pleased, we would DEFINITELY stay here again! Thanks!!

We just returned home from our stay at Caprice Cottage and are missing it already! It is even better than the photos indicate - it has charm, funk, and warmth, we absolutely loved it! Bill was an exceptional host/guide/local friend during our week stay. There were four of us (two couples) and we had plenty of room and privacy as well as cozy spots to sip wine, coffee (on the porch) and listen to music. Its location is in a residential area that is safe and comfortable yet just a quick walk to the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter. This was my husband's and my third visit to New Orleans and Caprice Cottage, by far, is our favorite place to stay. I wish we were there right now!

The place was beautiful. It had such charm and beauty that I couldn't believe how wonderful it was. The beds were quite comfortable and it was a very clean place. It was a short walk to Bourbon street and the rest of the french quarter. It was a very secure place to stay at night. Me and my friends loved it!

Caprice Cottage turned out to be a wonderful place to stay in New Orleans. The history of the place is amazing. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, not full of tourists. Frenchmen Street is two blocks away and a great place to explore, the jazz is great! It was easy and very reasonable to get a cab to the French Quarter if you don't want to walk. Bill, the caretaker, was extremely welcoming and helpful with any questions. We can't wait to return.

I stayed here with 4 of my girlfriends and we had a lovely time. Bill, the caretaker, lives in the quarters behind the house and is available for help when needed. He offers lovely walking tours of NOLA that are complimentary for guests. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and its history. The house is well equipped and nicely decorated. It's walking distance from the French Quarter and very secure. Since it is not directly in the French Quarter, it is very quiet and away from tourists, but is close enough to get to the tourist destinations.

The Caprice was all it claimed to be... my son and I spent a very long Thanksgiving weekend there and it was always great to come home to" The Caprice". It looks just like the pictures and gave you an authentic N'arleens feel! We did end up renting a car for the last few days as it was a bit of a hike to get into "downtown" French Quarter a few times a day.... but street parking was easy in front of the home. Would recommend highly to small families and/or couples looking to stay a bit away from the rat race!
