Welcome to New-Orleans!
Bienvenue à La Nouvelle-Orléans pour les francophones!

We survived Katrina, no floods, minor damage ( the cottage was built on high grounds, facing the Mississippi river, where Native Indians, early French settlers and their West-African slaves used to live in the 1720's).
We are blessed and thankful. Our thoughts still go the victims of this disaster.
Come and visit our great city, we are rebuilding it. We simply have to.
Having said that, Louisiana and New-Orleans are doing great thanks to our people, our determination and unique culture. Our legendary 'Joie de Vivre' can't be lost!
Thank you very much to check availability before contacting us.
(only by email please. A site manager is here, living at the back of the property/ next door/ always ready to help you ... ).
Please, contact us for rates & questions, we offer the best deal you can ever find for such a central and safe location!

The longer you stay in N.O, the more unfit you become to live anywhere else...

2 blocks from the French Quarter and Bourbon street, also 2 blocks from Frenchmen street where locals go to listen to the best traditionnal & contemporary, progressive jazz in town (14 music clubs), go to great and very affordable restaurants (créole, italian, french, japanese, lebanese... ect... ), bookstores, bistrots de café noir, and many more attractions.
Safe and very family oriented neighborhood.

The 'best hidden secret' in New-Orleans!
Check-in time starts at 3:00 pm till 1:00 am / Check-out time is before 10:00 am. ( though we can adjust if possible).

Also check our 'MONDECREOLE Secret Courtyards/ Private homes & CEMETERY walking tour'/ THE INSIDER'S FRENCH QUARTER. (80% of the 2h30mn tour takes place behind locked doors and explore the lives, in New-Orleans, of 5 generations of an old creole family who once owned LAURA PLANTATION: Laura Locoul (1861-1963), a Creole lady and plantation mistress from Louisiana, wrote a journal of her family's life in the old French Quarter:

1) Walk through closed gates and, surrounded by the stillness of secluded, tropical courtyards, step into the mysterious and forgotten story of Laura's family. Amid patios of profuse and entangled beauty, meet the spectors of those long dead: the European and the African branches of this Louisiana DYNASTY.
From grand & distinctive townhouses to original slave quarters, hear about black aristocrats, free people of colour, slaves, changing society after the Civil War and the birth of JAZZ while a culture tragically dissolves. Discover where, how they lived and their intimate secrets shared only with VOODOO queens of long ago...

2) Hear also about Historic Haunts & places, myths & legends:
Infamous figures such as Marie Laveau and Jean Lafitte make appearances, as do Napoleon House and a possible yellow fever morgue. The tour offers historical context for the legends surrounding these people and places, suggesting where the myths could have originated without necessarily debunking them.
The city is full of wonderful mysteries, which add to the flavor of our history. We intend to reveal different layers of the stories so that people may understand how and why each legend came to be.'
Visitors will learn about the ghastly details of each haunted location and then learn about the historical time period in which they occurred. The tour begins with the settling of New Orleans, when young French and Senegalese women were sent to the colony as brides for male settlers. They were rumored to have brought vampires along with them. The tour also explains the atmosphere of death and decay that pervaded the city during the massive outbreaks of yellow fever in the mid-1800s.
Frommer's says it is the most fascinating, unexpected, exclusive tour in town, much more historically accurate and entertaining than all the regular touristy haunted history tours.

Guests will pay half price ($12 instead of $24) for our French Quarter MONDE CREOLE Secret Courtyards & Cemetery walking tour!

A special thank you for hosting us in your New Orleans home during our recent visit. We cannot say enough about this perfect Creole cottage, which is two short blocks from the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street with 14 music clubs, featuring traditional jazz. Around the corner, The Spotted Cat Music Club was a gem and offered Swing dance lessons. In the evening we enjoyed the traditional jazz music at the Maison Bourbon. We enjoyed our morning coffee and our late night nightcaps on the very private courtyard, reminiscent of a Haitian/Creole cottage. Inside was museum perfect with interesting décor and pieces of art. But what we enjoyed the most was the instant calm we felt when we walked through the front door – it felt like home.

I just returned home from Caprice Cottage and I miss it already! The home is in an ideal location (close to the clubs on Frenchmen Street, and 5 minute walk from Jackson Square). It is beautifully decorated with antiques, historic photos, and art relevant to New Orleans (as previously stated in other reviews, it is very old, in a good way). The home has a spacious front porch, so we spent quite a bit of time just hanging out in the shade. In addition, the owner of the home, Paul, is absolutely wonderful. He is knowledgable about the city and gave us great recommendations for live music. I can't wait to return t o New Orleans, and when I do, I definitely plan on staying at Caprice Cottage!

Four old friends stayed at the "Caprice" for five nights in September. We had an amazing stay, and look forward to returning soon. The house is incredibly charming, as is it's owner, Paul, who was an amazing host. The decor is fantastic, and we very much enjoyed chats on the porch in the enclosed courtyard. The house is a 10 minute walk from the French Quarter, 5 minutes to music on Frenchman, and a quick drive to the Garden District, Downtown, or anywhere you would like to go in the City. We hope our future trips to New Orleans will include a stay at this wonderful cottage.

We have stayed in a great many VRBO rental properties over the last 10 years and this particular house ranks as one of the very finest we have ever seen. The location is ideal, the amount of space for a family is perfect and even in steamy July, we were very comfortable. Paul is a fascinating and informed host. This space is more than just a house, though. Paul has taken great pains to honor the original design and structure of the house. Each room contains beautiful pieces of art that reflect the experience of the free people of color who originally occupied this neighborhood. I was most fascinated by the photos in the bathroom which illustrate the arbitrary nature of ethnicity in American history. So forget staying on Bourbon Street- you can walk there and drink all the hurricanes you want (and we did!) and then safely wander back in time to this lovely home in Marigny.

This house is very nice. The owner was easy to deal with. The house is one level in shotgun style and it is very old (in a good way) in classic New Orleans style but also updated. The bedrooms are shotgun style and beside the den and sitting area. The front porch was nice and relaxing. We love this neighborhood and always stay in the general vicinity. Bill the neighbor was very nice and had lots of information. Would recommend this property and would definitely stay here again!!! Pictures are spot on!!!

We just returned from our 2nd stay at Caprice Cottage and it was as wonderful as the 1st stay. Very convienent to Frenchmen and the French Quarter. We always swing by the Verti Mart on the way back in from touring the city. From the time we arrived our car never moved. We took the tour the 1st time we stayed with Bill as our guide and were very impressed with all the historical information. We also met the owner Paul who is very nice and gave us great information about Frenchmen Street. The house is very charming, homey and clean. We love this place and will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Caprice for a week. The house is absolutely beautiful and is in a fantastic location close to Frenchmen Street and about 10 minutes from the French Quarter. The house is well maintained, and convenient with a washer/dryer and full kitchen. We felt very safe in the area walking home later at night, and we felt we had close access to the best jazz music in the city - on Frenchmen Street! Bill was great to deal with. He was very helpful and the Insiders Quarter tour he guided was the best historical tour we did in New Orleans. It was also a very quick taxi ride from the airport, so very easy to access when you arrive in New Orleans. We will definitely be back!

I stayed here with friends for a week and had a wonderful time. I was in town for the American Library Association Convention and the location was perfect- close to Frenchmen Street for going out at night, near the French Quarter for getting food, but close enough to the conference to walk. The house itself is beautiful and well taken care of. Paul was a great host and was very welcoming. Highly recommended!

My wife and I just spent a great three day weekend (Thursday to Sunday) at the cottage and had a great time. The house is quite comfortable and near everything. We really loved the neighborhood. The neighbors were friendly and many of the homes were decked out for Mardi Gras in a very fun way. Even without a car, we found ourselves returning there several times each day to recharge (we did LOTS of walking), It's about a ten minute walk to Jackson Square and five to Frenchmen St. We even walked to the midpoint of the Uptown parades and had the great experience of watching them with the local folks (few tourists - lots of kids), I had been a little apprehensive about walking back from the clubs after midnight - but we had no problems whatsoever - still plenty of people around. We'll be BACK!

The cottage is so beautiful and convenient to so much of wonderful NOLA. I really love to feel immersed in my favorite city, and the Caprice did not disappoint! It was clean, beautifully decorated and had room to spread out! Having such amenities as a refrigerator and washer/dryer really came in handy, and the management was lovely as well. Our group was very pleased, we would DEFINITELY stay here again! Thanks!!

                  Year Purchased: 1999

About the owner: I am Paul and we thank you very much for visiting our homepage. I grew up between the USA and France. What a better place to be than Louisiana?

Why the Owner Chose French Quarter:
New-Orleans is wonderful and a unique place for its history. The French Quarter & Bourbon Street can be a lot of fun, no one there thinks moderation is a virtue! But would you really like to stay there? We much prefer the authentic 'Faubourg Marigny', this is the real New-Orleans. We learn from the past but do not live in the past, though we are dedicated preservasionists. We also support our great local activists who live in our neighborhood. They are foremost concerned about the rebuilding of our city, wetland issues, global warming, sustainnable development and how to create a clean, green & better city for next generations.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house stands in the middle of a friendly, progressive, artsy, quiet, family oriented and safe neighborhood. It is also close to the best attractions in town. Walking distance for groceries as well. Thanks to the lush front yard, its tropical plants, the cottage is also a nice secluded retreat providing complete privacy and a comforting sense of peace with its own 'mystique'.
